Too those of you who don't believe me, here's his profile.

http://www.gamespot.com/users/Philosoma/KeyWii

Wow, now I'm convinced he's really who you say he is. Because all of us have completely accurate GS profiles.

You don't believe him? Fine, the ownage is on you when he posts more insider information from Japan.

I know a guy named ZOMGIAMJAPANESE who says that in japan the 360 is selling so well, and that a chinpokemon game is being released for the ps3 to challenge it.

The joke is on you when Philosama provides more juicy info on gaming from Japan.

how was that info "juicy".  if true, he gave you his opinion on game sales in japan.  that would be like someone from japan quoting my posts as "insider information".  Jeez KeyWii, everytime I think you can't come up with a more stupid post, you go and own yourself all over again.

This is the thing you ask about when your friend (who just coincidentally logs back into GS when first getting back into the states) returns from Japan?  Why didn't you keep in touch with him when he was over there anyway?

This is pretty sad on a few different levels.

Japan is one of the most important regions, if by large part your games aren't being sold there, you have a problem.

All videogame sales have been declining in Japan. The most important region is North America, followed by Europe. Japan, frankly, no longer matters - and if your "friend" and his "story" completely ignore how the Wii is trashing the PS3 in Japan, then I don't trust it.

Sad part was, prior to the PS3 Euro launch, suddenly Europe was important and Japan wasn't. Now Japan seems to be important again...

Any place where consoles are sold is an important territory. But the Big 3 are North America, Japan, and Europe.

We are not real life "friends."  I suppose we are more acquaintance's. We know each other through GameSpot.

Y'know, simply being in a country doesn't mean you have "insider information". It's not like this guy works for a videogames company, in fact his profile which you kindly linked to shows that he has absolutely no links to the gaming industry whatsoever.

Bad thread. Even by the standards we're used to.

KeyWii

I'm sorry? Name any other person on System Wars who is fluent in Japanese and English and lives in Japan regularly?

lol....lol....omg...KeyWii, you really are in a class all of your own. lol.  I have a friend who speaks dolphin and offers me great insider informaiton.  He reported to me a confidential bit of information (using the ps3 to decode it) that the ps3 isn't popular in the northern polar regions.  What"?!? You don't beleive me?  Who else do you know that speaks fluent dolphin here on SW??

Hey Keywii, I have a friend of my own, and he'd like to tell you this.

"Dear Keywii; Thank you so much for making SW enjoyable and hilarious once again. You bring back memories of the forgotten fanboys of old, such as Solid_Snake0000, Wudi09, Copp3r, RimlaFX, etc.. Instead of spouting the usual 'xflop 1.5 sux' crap, you come up with creative and unique ways to make your biased allegiances known. Creative fanboys are what made System wars so enjoyable back in the day. Now, you seem to show a degree of intelligence, so please, do yourself a favor, stop being so narrow-minded, and own all next-gen console like I intend to do. It feels so much better to not be a company's boot-licker. Sincerely, AK47_Lover"

You missed the point. :| Just being in Japan does not make you an "inside source". If i move to Sweden for six months, working as a mail man, and somebody asked me for an "inside scoop" on who buys what kind of TV, i wouldn't know what the heck i was talking about. I'd just give my opinion. Unless i have some form of link or extensive knowledge of the industry itself, what the heck do i know? Just BEING in that country does not automatically make you an expert.

Doesn't matter as much as japan is no longer the #1 region for video gamesDoctorBunny

Microsoft doesn't even think that. Japan makes up like %20 of the game market. Thats like 2 billion dollars a year in sales that  can easily sway the results overall.

Any place where consoles are sold is an important territory. But the Big 3 are North America, Japan, and Europe.

Japan has been declining in their willingness to buy into the expensive new technlogies for gaming, really leaving NA and Europe as the places for Sony and Microsoft to fight it out. Sony losing sales in Japan is sad, it's their home turf, and Microsoft doesn't stand a chance there because of the Japanese perception of the Xbox brand, the lack of Japan-centric games, and the piss poor marketing ("Do do do" sounds about as cool to the Japanese as it does to us).

However I'm amazed that your "friend" fails to mention the Wii - even in apples to oranges comparison (non-HD system vs HD system) it is amazing how dominate the Wii / DS have been in Japan.

From my Inside Source, Philosoma.

"Whats up Keywii!

Yeah I live and teach in Japan, but right now I'm on Haruyasumi (spring break but kind of bigger like Xmas break in the USA) and I'm back in Cleveland for a while! And actually, the PS3 is slightly cheaper in Japan and they have lots of deals where you can turn in your old PS2 and gear for up to $200 off. PS3 is pretty huge in Japan, but Sony's target audience are guys around like 16-30 in age and to purchase a PS3 you must have a credit or bank debit card. It's labeled as the "adult's game system" here. 360 is sadly a joke, not because it's an American product or anything, it's because the Japanese just don't like games like FPS too much and more often than not the games are only sold per order - you can't just walk into Tsutaya and just buy 360 games because they are in such low demand.

I'll be back in Japan soon and if you want some pictures or some news about something just lemme know, maybe I can dig up something cool ^^

Philosoma"

I thought I'd share this with you all since it's a unique perspective. Thanks to Philosoma for the reporting.

KeyWii

haha, I guess I'll take your word for it I mean, you must be right, with that obviously real letter.

You think I wrote that to myself? Let me tell you something. I don't even know what "Haruyasumi" or "Tsutaya" is.

That's easy, Haruyasumi means "KeyWii" and Tsutaya is the ancient Japanese character meaning, "one who is full of crap".

If you didn't know Tsutaya wasn't a retailer why did you title your thread' most retailers don't carry them?'

It's pretty easy to extrapolate that Tsutaya is a place where games are sold from the rest of his message.

Y'know, simply being in a country doesn't mean you have "insider information". It's not like this guy works for a videogames company, in fact his profile which you kindly linked to shows that he has absolutely no links to the gaming industry whatsoever.

Bad thread. Even by the standards we're used to.

CJL13

I'm sorry? Name any other person on System Wars who is fluent in Japanese and English and lives in Japan regularly?

You missed the point. :| Just being in Japan does not make you an "inside source". If i move to Sweden for six months, working as a mail man, and somebody asked me for an "inside scoop" on who buys what kind of TV, i wouldn't know what the heck i was talking about. I'd just give my opinion. Unless i have some form of link or extensive knowledge of the industry itself, what the heck do i know? Just BEING in that country does not automatically make you an expert.

The problem is Philosoma isn't some guy visiting a foreign country for a few months, he lives and works there regularly. He teaches Japanese students English, so he's cultured in both countries as well. He's a good source of information I don't know why people are bashing him.

Are you telling me if I were to good to my English teacher and ask her how many PS3's were being sold in America she'd know instantly because she lived there?

If she's into video games, like Philosoma is, she might.

I'm into video games, I want to get all 3 consoles, do I have a clue how many consoles are sold here? No way!

Could you provide a news article or pictures from local Gaming magazines or retailers? Yeah? And so can Philosoma.

oh good lord KeyWii....seriously.  have you ever considered that if you didn't make these uneducated, ill-informed, fanboyish threads ten times a day that you may actually get to talk to other gamers who share your passion and interests instead of defending yourself and/or trying to convince everyone that you're not an idiot?

And do the people who work at the retailers or people who make the magazines know exactly how many consoles are sold in America? Only people who work for Sony, Nintedno, or Microsoft could know how many consoles are shipped, and even then it's hard to tell how many were sold at the retailers.

Tell Philosoma to go to retailers and take pictures of th entire store, so we know if the retailers carry 360 games or not.

[QUOTE="DoctorBunny"]Doesn't matter as much as japan is no longer the #1 region for video gamesKeyWii

Japan is one of the most important regions, if by large part your games aren't being sold there, you have a problem.

It's not a problem for me. I live in the U.S. Since when did certain regions affect other regions? As long as the 360 keeps churning out good games, there is no problem.

That's fine. But you have to realize the more support your console has from the global scheme of things, the more games you'll get, perhaps even the better games you'll get.

I'm done with this thread.  As every other thread he has ever created, KeyWii made an outlandish comment, everyone will prove him wrong (as with every other KeyWii thread, this one will got to at least 7 pages), KeyWii will get upset and quit posting, KeyWii will create another outlandish thread either tonight or tomorrow morning.  So, KeyWii, take it easy and we'll start the process all over tomorrow.

fair enough. So far support seems to be pretty good, but yeah it could get better if Japanese developers are willing to invest in the 360.

Alright...and we should care why?  Last time I checked it was total worldwide software sales that mattered...

Of the top 10 games in terms of sales this gen are 7 X360 and 3 are Wii, with the highest ranking PS3 game coming in at...19th :|

Not really.

The East and West have dramatically different cultures. Xenophobia is a far more common phenomenoa in Japan than it is in the states. A developer need not make games around the expectations of Japanese consumers. Without major modifications, American games will simply not do as well in Japan.

I could really care less about the market in Japan -- of course it will be radically different than the market in the states.

There are other people in System Wars....who can think?!

[QUOTE="lawlessx"]well its a good thing the 360 isnt only about FPS games like the xbox was :wink:KeyWii

They've done better. But they're still not diverse enough. Mass Effect is an RPG with shooter gameplay. They still have too many shooters, Japan knows it and so does everyone else who is turned off by globs and globs of FPS.

The PS3's best exclusive game right now is a FPS. :|
