XB1 needs street fighter 5 to survive

I mean, I'll give Sony props, smart move on their part. And at the end of the day it'll sell better on PS4 than PC, good for them. As far as the console space goes, they're getting the (1st iteration) sequel of the biggest name in the fighting genre. It'll move a few units for them, that's for sure.

But yeah, it's really just fanboy fuel here on SW.

And yeah, will move silly units for Sony I guess. It's not like they will advertise the PC version and the average Street Fighter player will even know it even exists else where. As long as they know it isn't on Xbox. Though I am pretty stoked that they are allowing crossplay on PS4 and PC. That is just fantastic!

Also, SF5 isn't worth a damn from what I seen and Capcom has a history with DLC [way worst then MKX but not that bad] a gamer with a brain will wait for GOTY and I learn my lesson from MvC3.

I played SF4, and it was the first Street Fighter I played. I love fighting games, and with it's rave reviews, I thought it'd be a great, new fighting game to get into. It wasn't, it's not beginner friendly at all. And even trying to take time to learn the basics, I just couldn't. With it's lack of tutorials it's impossible to learn anything about it's functions or move sets. So because of this I lost all interest in the series. But like others have said Xbox got KI, and it's getting MK next month. So it's doing fine on the fighting games department.

Forgotten? The PS2 smashed it still. It helped Xbox into a better position than it would have been in, but nothing major.

Also different times. The fighting games are really starting to take off on the PC. Last gen we acted like console exclusives weren't a thing and now it's even less of a thing. Especially seeing as this time the PC is getting practically all the console games. And they're even easier to run out of the gate because current gen hardware is weak.

I think there'll be an impact, but it might not be as huge as people think.

depends on what you play fighting games for. Ultra Street Fighter 4 is a far more technical, complex and involved fighter than Mortal Kombat has ever reached yet. However Mortal Kombat can be pretty fun from time to time. The two franchises play rather differently.

Mortal Kombat uses a block button, but every move does chip damage meaning you always want to be on the offense more so than most games. If you're blocking, you are dying. There is also longer and higher damaging combos which means the amount of footsies play is reduced because it require less getting in to finish a match.

Street fighter requires you to block correctly. This takes into account high and low, back and forth defense. Making sure you defend properly is essential in this game and it prevents all damage except for the chip damage from special moves. Combos in Street Fighter require a lot more skill and timing to execute, but they are less damaging and shorter than those found in a typical Mortal Kombat game. This leads to a lot more interplay between opponents. There are more chances to play the range/footsies game between knockdowns and combos.

Don't have to tell me this, I've played over 30k matches of SF4 since 2009, it's technical and is more in depth with it's mechanic, but it's also easier to play especially when you have 835363 people online abusing noob characters like Sagat and abusing focus attacks. Easier to play, harder to master and play competitively.

TC lost all credit. Claiming MK isn't a competitive game only shows that you have no clue what you are talking about and believe your personal ideas are the way things are. Mortal Kombat 9 was at 3 Evo's and a fourth as a side tournament. MKX will be larger than MK9 so it will have more tournament success.

On topic; XB1 does not need SFV to "survive." The XB1 is selling just fine, even to the point it's outsold the 360 within the same time from launch.

I never said it did. In fact, I stated the opposite. Only a fool would believe that SFV would make or break the Xbone. However to say it's irrelevant is lulz worthy. Missing a multiplat from the biggest franchise in the genre, one that could easily run on the hardware, is a damn shame. Let's hope the Xbone catches this game on the revision.

It seems plenty of people care about SF, across the different versions of IV it hit 8 million sales. 94 on metacritic too.

Looks pretty relevant to me though i'm not sure who was buying the thing on a 360 anyway with it's broken D-pad. Unless they all had sticks.

Xbone doesn't have SF5, but it would be nice if it got Guilty Gear Xrd or Injustice Ultimate in the meantime.

I've played all I can play of Killer Instinct. MKX is up next though. The poor Xbone dpad doesn't help matters, but after having so many 360 fighting sticks, I'm reluctant to jump in for more fighting sticks on the machine with less fighters.

TC I think it may be time to put down the keyboard. I like SF as much as any one but stop. lol

It's genuinely interesting that Sony locked up SF5. But how many follow-ups will there be to it? SF5 Arcade Edition? SF5 Ultimate Arcade Edition? And so on.

The genesis lost out because of more than no SF2, the controller was also awful. Truly bad.

With PlayStation at the helm once again, I fully expect the rivival of classics like Tony Hawks, Need For Speed Underground, Twisted Metal, and a shit ton of Japanese games to make a comeback. I also expect GTA 6 sales to be incredibly skewed in PS4's favor over the Xbox One. You know, standard gen 6 affairs.

What in the world are you talking about? The Genesis got two Street Fighter II games! Hell, the PC-Engine(The Turbografix 16) got a version of Street Fighter II as well, as did other platforms like the 3D0!

The only version of Street Fighter II that was exclusive was World Warrior, and that version was dated the second Championship Edition arrived in arcades.

In other words, Nintendo only had an exclusive Street Fighter II for about a year and a half. By 1993, the Genesis had gotten Special Championship Edition and in 94, both systems got Super Street Fighter II at the same time.

@charizard1605: I would add Injustice to the list since it has the combination of Mortal Kombat's design ideology and DC characters like Superman and Batman filling the roster which gives it mass market appeal.

MS release games to Xbox and PC, and people claim it has no exclusives. MS release Halo 5 as an exclusive and people go nuts that it's not on PC and MS betrayed them. Xbox is doing fine and will continue to do just fine also. Plus, it wouldn't hurt for $ony to support PC once and a while too.

@SolidTy: I had the Mad Catz fight stick for the bone when I had one at launch. It was pretty damn well put together. I don't even play much in the way of fighters, since I suck at them and can't git gud. But I wouldn't mind having a PS4 equivalent for some of these more arcadey games I have on it like Metal Slug 3. Man, those games played SO GOOD on a Neo Geo with it's arcade sticks.

@popeanonymousxv: Oh yea, Metal Slug was spectacular and Neo Geo was an amazing, albeit expensive, machine back then (system was near a grand at one point, games were $200-$300 bucks, and the arcade stick controllers were super expensive as well). It truly was an epic machine. How could anyone not love arcade sticks in the box! :P
