and would make the name xbox one non-sensical (not that it really wasn't already) since kinect is required for the "one" functionality of being an all-encompassing multimedia device.
I highly doubt this is legit... MS wishes to push Kinect as an industry standard and a defining trait of X1, and they can't do that unless every console ships with a mandatory one.

Ok, now I think about it, the "now available without Kinect" is like, wut? No one would use it as a selling feature and wording it like that is kinda weird.

Yup, Kinect is too built into the Xbox One to just be ripped out on a whim by Microsoft. It's their big gamble, so I wouldn't trust any "leaked" images of a cheaper Xbox until Microsoft says it themselves.

True, it directly affects how the console will work. Removing Kinect means taking out many features, that are supposed to be the "selling points", remote control, heartbeat detecting and what not. It also means devs don't have to implement Kinect onto everything (this is probably a good thing).

Fake, but I think MS should seriously consider removing the mandatory Kinect requirement. Releasing a sub $400 console to counter Sony would be a very smart move on their part.
I doubt it. The reason Microsoft is including Kinect with every system is to give developers incentive to make high quality games for it. They don't want the fragmented userbase like they had on the 360 with Kinect.
If this is true then Microsoft are huge cowards. They had something interesting in the beginning with game sharing and focus on kinect. They seemed pretty confident with their pricing. But now they are stripping away all the crap they had a focus on and basically runied their image in the process....morons and fvcking cowards.Â

Very possible, there's no real reason why the kinect is needed for the X1, they can just simply reprogram it to work without the kinect but they wanted to charge people for the kinect to make more money.
