Im a 360 fan but i believe later down the years Xbox 360 will fall short because it only uses nomal dvds. Playstation 3 is using Blue-ray..... cool me silly but DVDS will be old school in a few years.

Why couldnt microsoft have a HD-DVD player built into the system, they knew Sony were putting a blue ray in theres. What were they thinking?

Sony boys are free to flame me, i am a 360 fan and i am not afraid to admit it!¬!!

I don't know that high definition formats will have that big of an effect this generation. Nintendo gambled that the true high def revolution won't happen this gen and so far, they've been right.

Except HD-DVD wouldn't have been ready for the 360's November 2005 launch. So either you go ahead with DVD-9 or you wait until mid-2006 when HD-DVD is ready, gamble on an unproven format, sacrifice ayear head start, and jack up the price even higher.

It just doesn't make sense.

That's pretty much what I was going to say. I'd rather go with a proven format that's still going to be standard for years to come than risk it all.

Yes but PS3 dont need to wait untill next time do they? They already have it. So they are in the league in terms of Disk space and such.

I agree. Plus, content distribution has been absolutely booming for companies like MS and itunes, so I expect consumers to never truly adopt a next-gen format and wait for the inevitable internet distribution model.

And as a result their console took longer to get out and it cost more than it would've otherwise. They made the decision and they paid the price for it, hoping for future benefits.

Plus, unlike Sony, MS does not have a vested interest in the outcome of the next-gen format race.

Remember, just because you can doesn't mean you should.

What if Blu-Ray succeds in format war? Surely Sony will reak the future benefits.Nothing is over yet. They have had 2 amazingly successful consoles. Why WOULDN'T they take this risk? If it means future success then they should do it. Blu-ray is a bad move now but later on people will start to understand why Sony did it.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I said. They paid an immediate price in hope of greater future returns. It makes sense for Sony.

For MS, it doesn't. They pay a great immediate price for a small long-term benefit. It's just not smart business.

Why would MS want to do anything that Sony does? They're winning.

Besides that, what real evidence do we have that BluRay is necessary for gaming?...and, if it were, what could be done with it that can't be done on 2 or 3 DVD 9's?

of course blueray will win in a few years. not everyone will have either the HDDVD add on or the elite. GoW took pretty much all the space up on the disc and they did alot of compression and tbh its not much of a big game in terms of level size. so the ps3 can achieve more with its size of it games. also when sony decide to bring out better dev kits we will be able to see if the cell is really that gd =]. if not ill go back to my 360 lmao

You're worring too much. Good dvd's can hold over 4 GB of content. That means that anything that fits on 1 blu-ray dvd can fit on multiple discs for an Xbox 360 game. Stop worrying so much. Xbox 360 is going to have a killer holiday season.

What's wrong with normal DVDs? M$ built a GAME SYSTEM. it is intended for games. you can watch movies, listen music, and the standard media fare, but that's not why you buy one. if you really need HD, buy an elite, and you can download HD content.

Ninten-d'oh! built a FAMILY SYSTEM. it's supposed to be this family friendly thing that everyone can play. You can surf the web, vote in polls, see the news and weather, most of the games are E-rated, and the simple controlls mean all can play.

Fony built a George forman Grill.
