THE RED RING OF DEATH IS CAUSED FROM DUST COLLECTION on heatsinks causing falure people need to get some canned air and spray their console out, xbox360 runs hotter than ps3 because of ati gpu.bigsmackyo4
Then how come some people have had their 360s fail on them after two or three weeks of usage, while others have had them operate over a year without problems? It's not because of dust. A big reason is the weak x-clamp on the old design of the 360 that secured the heatsink to the GPU in place. If it gets loose, and doesn't make good contact with the GPU, the console goes red ring.
Tech geeks have been able to fix their RROD problems after installing an improved heatsink in their 360s. It void the warranty, sure, but many have been able to fix the problem themselves.
Microsoft has since abandoned this x-clamp design on the new 360s and now use a four-screw setup which is MUCH better.

my 360 is FULL of dust but it never got red lights.....been playing it for nearly 2 years now
poorly mounted heatsinks and faulty components on motherboard.
but dust build up is number1# killer of xbox360 i just killed my pc playing f.e.a.r demo almost because it had too much dust in the heatsinks my whole freaking pc shut down overheated cleaned the dust out works great now .

depends on the temps of your location.
depends on how long you've been running it many things, explain why my pc just shut completly off when i was playing fear demo? i touched my cpu heatsink and the video card 7800 gtx they were blistering hot, why? because they were covered in dust so i removed the dust with some canned air restarted my pc restarted fear and hasnt overheated yet or shut off like it did
[QUOTE="Mordred19"]they should have focused on the jasper first, falcon second, seeing as the GPU is the bigger problem.wklzip
Totally, the problem was for overheating of the gpu, people that watercool their 360 have no problems at all.
Or maybe it's because that they abandoned the standard x-clamp heatsink design that most 360s have? Maybe that alone would have done the job.
LOL do you know what this means? They still haven't fixed the RROD for good. The falcon chips may reduce the number of failures but the problem will still exist to a significant degree. Why else come out with ANOTHER chip. Bravo M$ for creating such a great system.bobabanReading comprehension FTL. This revision actually addresses a different problem from the Falcon chipset.
