the good thing about that for the "other" console is where can microsoft go from here if it still doesnt outsell the ps3? because if it doesnt then price just isnt the factor anymore, once you drop the price and if sales dont pick up then it's only downhill from microsoft bigLLL

Yeah, but I don't see that happening. Even with the currently price drop, the Xbox 360 has already started outselling the PS3 in the U.S. and even in Europe where the price wasn't even dropped, the 360 has been closing the gap slowly. We're not talking about the Atari Jaguar or the 3DO system here. We're talking about the XBox 360 which has already sold over 20 million units, unlike the other 2 systems I just mentioned. Even the Japanese gamers have run out to buy an XBox 360. It's currently sold out in Japan right now.

So I don't see Microsoft going downhill anytime soon. The future looks bright right now. Microsoft just needs to get more 1st party titles onto the system like they did with the original XBox.

That's pretty close to the way I see it. I don't know why everyone here thinks everyone everywhere needs a hard drive.

I can't speak for others, but I would certainly purchase the Arcade out of the three. Demos haven't been worth anything for a long time - shorter and with fewer features. For a $100 difference, I say forget the demos. Just let me play the games.

If you have a subscription to OXM you'll get the demos anyways. Most gamers aren't going to worry about the demos when all they want to do is play games. The only problem I see with not have the HDD is playing games on XBox Live. Still, you can probably get the $60GB HDD cheap on EBay if you really want it. Not a big deal.

If 360 doesn't outsell the Ps3 in August after the clearance sell being out for a month it's in trouble. If the the 360 outsells the Ps3 when this new price drop goes into effect you'll see Sony drop price to $349.99. This price cut will be a sucess or Major failure for 360 if the arcades untis don't have a major sell then the 360 is in trouble. Sony's fine - the 360 is depending on this price drop. Fanboys need to stop, with the Ps3 is dead it's retarded. People need to buck up and face it that the Ps3 will beat the 360 this gen. You can't deny the obvious.. I own both consoles and I can see this. Though the Xbox has made a name or 'brand" with the 360. People now notice the console is actually good, which is great for Microsoft.hi381

I don't think Sony is going to drop their price. Why do you think they are releasing improved SKU's? They already said at the E3, that they had no plans to drop the price of their PS3's this year because they wanted to start making profits. Whether the PS3 will beat the 360 this generation is still up in the air. We'll see how the holidays go and then decide. The XBox 360 is still over 5 million units ahead of the PS3 and if 360's outsells the PS3 this holiday, it'll be very hard for the PS3 to catch them. We'll see though. It's not obvious yet. It's obvious that the PS3 and 360 will never catch the Wii. Now that's obvious.

Its cheaper than the Wii here in Australia already. If this price drop also occurs in Australia as well, even the PREMIUM will be the same price as Wii over here! :D

If that happened, the Wii would look incredibly over-priced, since it has no hard drive or HD graphics.

I already know this I have a wii and ps3 but were talking about casuals and how they will respond to this price drop.A true casual doesn't want to keep buying upgrades like batterie packs,wifi,hdd,hdtc cables,mic.They just want something simple that is alot of fun that is why the wii is selling so good.

When the GTA content becomes available I'll pick up a 60 gig hard drive, but honestly I've not needed one so far. Also I'm not saying I'm an extreme hardcore gamer but I'm not exactly casual either.
