Didn't the first one last ONLY 4 years?

I liked Halo 2 lots, but it came out in 2004 and then XBox died the next year just about.

I think I've missed the boat with the 360 and it'll be dead too soon to warrant a purchase, what do ya'll think?

I want a good FPS on-line game (MOH? probably not), but I guess I'll wait for the Wii to release one, since it's the clear winner this gen.

I can't wait for the unified Next system, with some type of updateable attachment or something.

If it ends in 2009, we won't get to play Resident Evil 5 :(

As a Gamecube owner, I would argue that the Wii died over a year before Zelda came out. Zelda was like its final spasm before going to the morg. :?

Well, 360 sales are on par with X-Box sales after two years, not to mention that it's losing money more so with recalls (*my X-box 1 scratched up my discs and had too many errors, it wasvery crap), and the system is more expensive too.

Also, I think that many X-Box 360 owners bought the system mostly for Halo 3 (the last in the series? yeah right.) and the the user base will only jump a couple of million.

Couldn't some of the "exclusives", like GTA IV,be done on the Wii, even if it called for multiple discs and toned down graphics?

i think the 360 will last as long as the ps3 and both will last as long as nintendo wants them too.

nintendo has the ball right now. if the want to make a new console with more power in two years.then ms and sony will be forced to follow.

How long is it going to take the other two consoles to reach $250? It's almost been 2 years and all the 360 has gotten is a $50 price drop. At that rate, it'll take another 4 years before it reaches $250.

With the PS3, at $599, at price cuts of $100 each year, it'll take 3 years to reach $299, and one more year to reach $199.

By that time, it'll be near the end of the gen and Nintendo can be selling their Wii for $150 at profit. So no, the Wii won't die anytime soon.

The Xbox life cycle was so short because they came out late but realised they would never grab any of Sony's marketshare unless they released before them.

This time there is no reason to do that. Matter of fact, I would say they will probably ride it out as long as possible (the longer the system is out, the cheaper it is to make therefore more money in their pocket). Unless Sony decides to kill the PS3 early or really starts kicking 360's azz, there is no reason for MS to kill off the 360.

Wii was going to get customers regardless. Its NINTENDO for gods sake. Nintendo and "Family Friendly" go hand in hand. Not to mention its only $250. Perfect for casuals and hard core gamers who want something different.

Also as far as the crap 360 sales, what about the **** PS3 sales in its hometown of Japan? :shock:

NA and UK are, by far, the two largest video game markets though (Japan is the 3rd larget market). So, it's actually an accomplishment to have great sales in the NA and UK markets.

Also, MS is mainly concerned with taking away the PS3's marketshare, which it is accomplishing.:D

MS' strategy always has been of a 4 year life span. they already said they'll keep it that way. so i'll do the math since it looks like a lot of ppl here fail to realize how it's done:

1st xbox november 2001 -(1 year)- 2002 -(2 years)- 2003 -(3 years)- 2004 -(4 years)- november 2005 = 4 years total.

360 november 2005 - november 2009 = 4 years.

360 arcade. comes with wireless controller 256 memory card, HDMI output, and 5 free live arcade games. all for $279.99

I would say 360 isnt far off the 250 dollar mark prob in about a year or so imo.

wow madden. ps2 got ff12 GOW and a load of games.

I think the reason Xbox was discontinued was because of the hardware. I remember someone saying that it really wasn't built so that the pieces could become easier and cheaper to make which is why they were never able to generate profit. Even it is discontinued in 2009, thats perfect timing for me since thats when FF is expected to be released.xDonRobx

This and the fact that they wanted to get a jump on Sony and Nintendo. They were bleeding money on the orginal xbox so it didn't make any sense to ride it longer.
