?XBox 360 discontinued by 2009?

MS' strategy always has been of a 4 year life span. they already said they'll keep it that way. so i'll do the math since it looks like a lot of ppl here fail to realize how it's done:

1st xbox november 2001 -(1 year)- 2002 -(2 years)- 2003 -(3 years)- 2004 -(4 years)- november 2005 = 4 years total.

360 november 2005 - november 2009 = 4 years.

How long is it going to take the other two consoles to reach $250? It's almost been 2 years and all the 360 has gotten is a $50 price drop. At that rate, it'll take another 4 years before it reaches $250.

With the PS3, at $599, at price cuts of $100 each year, it'll take 3 years to reach $299, and one more year to reach $199.

By that time, it'll be near the end of the gen and Nintendo can be selling their Wii for $150 at profit. So no, the Wii won't die anytime soon.Zhengi

It's kind of hard to price cut a discontinued product you know. Sony is no longer manufacturing the 60gig. When it's gone... it's gone and we are back up to a $600 minimum cost for a PS3 (80gig).

MS only did the price drop now since they have competition on the market. Why would they bother price dropping before the Wii and PS3 were out? That would serve no purpose. I bet we see 360 premiums for $300 next April or so.

I doubt we will see a $200 PS3 3 years from now. To think that a console's selling price would be reduced to 1/3rd the original price in that short of a time is a bit of a stretch. They intend to sell them at a profit toward the end of the cycle, that has always been the way these things are targetted. Look at the PS2 now. They are selling for $129 with an original price of $300? And that is after almost 7 years of being available.

the 360 is a small succes. xbox not really. They had no reaso to continue with the xbox other than releasing some sportsgames.

Why would they discontinue it, its selling faster than the XBOX, selling MUCH MUCH MUCH more software and importantly making a PROFIT

Ditching it is the stupidest thing MS could do unless they dont ever want to come out of their money hole

I would say 360 isnt far off the 250 dollar mark prob in about a year or so imo.

They had one console before this one and that wasn't a succes at all. Look at Windows OS. they still support Windows 2000/ME with patches:|

Dude, that couldn't be further from the truth. It didn't even last 3.5 years.

We didn't know it, but HALO 2 (November 2004) was the last great game we were getting from Xbox. They kept their plans hidden. A full year later, the 360 was out, but the XBOX had long been dead.

Xbox (November 2001 - November 2004, If you want to be nice, You could say March-2005 ).

Anyways, I don't know if M$ will silently shove the 360 under the rug the same way. If that were the case, This Xmas, when GEOW2 is out, we will hear about the 720.

I see the PS3 and 360 working together longer than that....unless M$ wants to rush another out.

Well it is highly possible.Seeing what happened to the last xbox i would say that this xbox wont last much longer.Ever since the PS3 has come out,its beating its sales continuosly,and already taken over in europe.

Earlier another article came talking about the fact that the 360s power have been peaked out on Gears of War 2.Pretty shamefull though.They made a "Next-Gen" console which coudlnt even last 5 years.Thank God i got rid of mine long ago.

Why are people automatically assuming the XBOX360 lifespan will end so early because of the XBOX? The XBOX360 is nothing like the XBOX. The XBOX was a failure. That's not the point tho. I don't understand why people think a new Xbox 720 would automatically mean the end of the 360. It'll never be as big as the PS2, but the 360 and it's library will be around for quite some time. Even after the 720 is released.

Anyway, the 360 is having a far better run than the original Xbox, so I can't see it fading away anytime soon, with so many great games on the horizon.

Thats MSs experiance in the industry. They didnt expect sony to keep the ps2 out. So they droped the xbox all together. An advantage on being last is that you can counter everyones moves.

There are rumors circulating that Microsoft is aiming to launch the next Xbox in either 2011 or 2012.

Ok. How come then, in a interview with Microsoft, it says that Microsoft would 'support the xbox well into 2006' and it says on Wiki that the Xbox sold well into 2007, after prodution stopped, oh and guess what Xbox 1 was better than PS2.
