Why is it that when Sony lost all that money all the Xbox fan was doing back flips, dancing in the streets and going buck wild over the news, but now there's a report stating that the 360 division lost $31 mill and now everybody lips a glued shut. I could care less about sales or how much money a company lose because I dont work for them.....but for those that do care....Carma is a MF!

31 million huh?

That's a lot better than M$'s Last Gen's 6 BILLION+!

Still, while I don't care too much, it's true, fanboys do seem to laugh and do backflips on Sony's losses, so I guess all fair.

I still am glad to have my 360, it's a fun machine....when it's not RRODing/E74ing.

Seriously, sales are just an eh, thing for me. :)

Well after entering thi thread I was like 'he's an idiot for not seeing the other 10 threads with the exact same topic title made in the past 24 hours'.

Then I read what you posted and you're just a plain dumb.

I'll just take stuff from the other threads.

The 360 is in the ame division as the Zune, the Zune has yet to make money at any time.

Sony lost somewhere close to 4 billion, 31 million is chump change compared to that.

Major ownage.

You obviously care enough to create a thread about it. And thereby becoming the same type of fanboy you rail against.

Funny, isn't it? :)

Yeah because since joining the game industry MS only lost 31 million :| You are away MS has lost 6 billion since starting the Xbox brand back in 2001! 4 billion on Xbox and a further 2 billion in early 360 days. RROD alone cost MS 1 billion so technically MS is not making profit, they are still the red overal in their gaming division! oh btw unlike lemmings I dont jump for joy when a company is bleeding money, I feel quite bad for MS......... lol :P

Its for 1 quarter the division itself is in profit for the financial year so its not like its losing money, nor is the company. A slightly different situation. Also the the 360 was picked out as the highlight of the division. Feel free to eake out whatever ownage you can from that I guess.

Ok what you dont get I guess is that they lost 31 mill from last year but still made a profit in the same division so it was just a loss of 31 from the year befor so you cant say they lossed anything.

Oh just in case you dont get what im saying ill make this ex for you. Ok lets say they made 131 million last year but this year they lost 31 million from last year but they still make a profit of 100 million.

Microsoft added 9.4 percent following its smaller-than-forecast profit decline and prediction of bigger cost savings.

The market certainly saw it as good news! Thats a huge jump. Are the cow back flips turning into wails of misery? :P

Well spotted, i guess people should be careful how they word things :P. On topic, this loss is probably due to the warrenty costs coupled with the fact they lose money on each 360 sold and with their aggressive pricing policy this becomes more pronounced, not sure how they can make a loss with all the sweet LIVE money.

I'm not doubting you, but I've seen other people say Microsoft is losing money on each 360 sold, but I've never seen a link saying this is true. Do you have one?

you do realise that MS entire entertainment division (xbox, xbox 360, zune) is actually in the black right? you do realise that MS has been making a profit for every xbox 360 sold since 2006 right? and do you realise that even though RRoD cost them $1 billion, they were able to pay it off in one shot and wrote it off as a quarterly loss and went on the make a profit in the next quarter?

MS makes $75 per xbox 360 sold

MS makes $75 per xbox 360 sold second source

MS entertainment division makes profit

MS entertainment division makes profit link 2

MS entertainment division makes profit link 3

MS writes off $1.15 billion

MS writes off $1.15 billion link 2

btw, regarding MS's "loss", they are not in debt or in the red like sony. instead, it just means that they MADE LESS money than this time last year. but the fact is, they still made money. this time last year, MS earned $4.39 billion. this year, they earned 32% less, or they earned $2.98 billion. see, even though the stock went down, they still made nearly $3 billion.

I'll never get why cows make threads about Sony as a Company and MS as a company , Because MS makes Sony look like a hot dog stand compared to one of the most profitable companies in the world which is MS. Guess cows like to embarass them selves LOL

actually, the loss doesn't have anything to do with the 360 or the entertainment division at all. it was due to low pc sales and higher sales of netbooks that are linux equipped.

Microsoft said weakness in the global PC market negatively impacted its results.

edit:

the $31 million loss in the entertainment division could be attributed to the manufacturing and future marketing of the ZuneHD and not the xbox 360.

you might want to fix the quotes there. other than that, yea it's the entire division but MS is still making money. just a little less than this time last year.

Development and marketing of the ZuneHD. That makes sense now. thanks for that information. On a side note, i dont know why those with obviously no knowledge of business post threads about the financial stability of a company based on stock price or quarterly results. Threads like this always seem to come back on the OP.

RROD alone cost MS 1 billion so technically MS is not making profit, they are still the red overal in their gaming division! oh btw unlike lemmings I dont jump for joy when a company is bleeding money, I feel quite bad for MS......... lol :P

you do realise that MS entire entertainment division (xbox, xbox 360, zune) is actually in the black right? you do realise that MS has been making a profit for every xbox 360 sold since 2006 right? and do you realise that even though RRoD cost them $1 billion, they were able to pay it off in one shot and wrote it off as a quarterly loss and went on the make a profit in the next quarter?

MS makes $75 per xbox 360 sold

MS makes $75 per xbox 360 sold second source

MS entertainment division makes profit

MS entertainment division makes profit link 2

MS entertainment division makes profit link 3

MS writes off $1.15 billion

MS writes off $1.15 billion link 2

btw, regarding MS's "loss", they are not in debt or in the red like sony. instead, it just means that they MADE LESS money than this time last year. but the fact is, they still made money. this time last year, MS earned $4.39 billion. this year, they earned 32% less, or they earned $2.98 billion. see, even though the stock went down, they still made nearly $3 billion.

wow..i didn't know ANY of this.

For one thing.........MS on the whole made a 3 billion profit. And even though its a loss, they probably shipped more 360s then PS3s. Temp-MLD
if you take windows and office away the xbox is not possible. the xbox division has done nothing for ms except loss billions of $$$$

Your wrong. In early 2008 MS started to make a profit on the 360, going into the black.

and that was the only time in 8 year that the xbox made ms a cent and now it has reversed back to the trend of losing them millions after millions from the unprofitable xbox division.

Huff

It should be "I couldn't care less" not "I could care less".... secondly, Carma is a stripper, Karma is a MF.

Huff nice mustang man.

I like how Gamespot words it "Xbox 360 Division" and not "Entertainment & Devices Department"

I guess they are trying to make it gaming related, but in reality, 360 portion of the E&D department is the only one posting net profit. Even GS's own article mentioed a quote from MS CFO Chris Liddell:

"Liddell specifically called out Xbox 360 hardware sales as one of Microsoft's bright spots for the quarter"

E&D includes:

  • Zune
  • PC games
  • Windows Live
  • Xbox 360
  • ITV
  • Embedded audio devices

You do know that compared to Sony who lost all the profit from the PS2 and more because of the PS3, they are doing well the 360 is now making them money no matter how much you don't want to believe it.

Because while the 360 may not have made as much cash in this quarter over last year the division as a whole IS making money whereas Sony's just getting owned by selling their product.

You can lol at Sony, but lolling at MS really doesn't make sense since they aren't losing tons of money at all. That's why nobody cares.

cows should stick to the better exclusives argument, cos it's the only argument that holds any weight, and it's the only argument they have, calling out MS for losing 31 million when sony has lost more than ten times that is just plain dumb.
