Lol, I can't believe you made this thread. The PS3 has no reports of scratching discs, DVD or blu ray discs. Not to mention, blu ray discs have a scratch resistant coating on them.

The 360 on the other hand has wide spread reports of disc scratching.

Just one of the many technical problems of the Xbox 360, a list that warrants its very own Wikipedia page, LOL!

Wow, read this.

"Almost at the same time the Xbox 360 was released in late 2005, customers began reporting rounded scratches found on discs used in their Xbox 360 consoles. Almost two years later, in February 2007, the website "The Llamma's Adventures" investigated the matter and concluded that some Xbox 360 drives lack a mechanism to secure the disc solidly in place. Tilting or moving consoles with these drives, when operating with a disc spinning inside, can potentially cause damage to the disc, in some cases rendering the disc unusable. Discs have also been scratched by stationary consoles during normal use. One side of the disc can also be scratched by the disc tray if it malfunctions by closing with the disc in an odd position. Also, technical engineers already knew about the problem before release confirm this with Microsoft with a list of solutions. According to Microsoft, decreasing the disk rotation would take too much time to load a game and bumpers in the disk tray would cost 25 cents per console—a total of about 11 million dollars and a delay of the Xbox release. In 2005, they were accused of many technical Xbox 360 problems and a poor lack of solutions and warranty. According to reports in news media the new Xbox 360 S still scratches disks when the console is moved while spinning the disk, however the 360 S ships with a sticker informing users that moving the console while powered on risks this."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems#Scratched_discs

So apparantly, Microsoft already knew about this issue before they released the Xbox 360. They decided not to fix it because it would have cost them an extra 25 cents per console. You have to be joking me, lol!

It also clearly says that the Xbox 360 Slim still has this issue.

I install all my 360 games as well to my 320 gig harddrive. That is a good way to help prevent scratched discs, but do you honestly believe that it's OKAY for a console to scratch and ruin games if you DON'T install every game?

I've never had a problem with discs in the PS3, meanwhile my 360 discs scratch extremely easily and often times the middle plastic ring in the disc will get cracks. It happened to my Skyrim disc when I only had it for a month, and that is with the game installed to the harddrive.

It's just foolish to compare anything hardware related on the Xbox 360 to the PS3 in an effort to find an advantage. The PS3 and the Wii have much higher build quality than the Xbox 360, everything from consoles to controllers and peripherals. The Red Ring of Death, disc scratching, E74 errors, video output failures, disc drive failures etc. The Xbox 360 is probably the most flawed console in the history of video games in terms of design and reliability.

If you want to find advantages for the 360, talk about games. (oh wait, lol).

I shifted it a few inches to the side (vertical position) because it was too close to the side of my entertainment center, and I could feel it overheating, and the last thing I wanted was an RROD while I was playing Halo. So I got a disc scratch error instead. Wonderful.

actually both systems are known for sometimes actually eating discs *the 360 more so* but even with durabis *bus* the ps3 has been known to make discs unplayable specially when its disc drive craps out and since the ps3 uses a slot drive its nearly impossible to get the disc out that is unless you take the system apart thus voidng your warranty and the fact sony is less then inclinded to fix a system even if you pay for it if you take it apart.

They're all like that.. nintendo refuses to fix something if it's been opened. Hell a little out of topic but i took my Vaio to sony to get a part replaced when i took it to best buy where i bought it they refused to fix something that was wrong with it because Sony opened it. They're all like that it's part of the business model. Nintendo also refused to fix my DSi after it broke because i opened it to fix a button even though i was paying for it. They told me i need to get a new one.

Btw,aren't blu ray discs damn near impossible to scratch?

freedomfreak

Pretty much. I've even bought a handful of previous rentals, and even those look almost brand new.

Although some of them have little knicks around the outer edges, the protective coating keeps them scratch free on the bottom/data side of the disc.

Because his mom won't buy him one, so he has to bash it to feel better about himself.

Apparently he tried the same thing on PC, but the hermits got him to rage so hard he stopped. He says its because he got one, but I'm guessing its because there are more hermits then cows here so its easier this way for him to not get immediately destroyed.

It still happens, but not with quite the speed and sociopathy of a Hermit who is already on a PC, ready to respond with vigor.

only an idiot would try to tilt the console while its on "hur dur!! ima tilt this console to see what happens hur dur!!' "lets turn this blender on upside down, turn it on and see what happens hur dur!!"jessejay420
Even stationary consoles can have this happen. The most likely cause is with Vertical 360s. The best position for a 360 is horizontal so their is little chance of it rocking with it running a game.

Having the 360 vertical makes it a little unstable and susceptible to rocking while the disc drive is running even if it is on something sturdy.
