Lets do some legit calculations here..

Xbox 360 premium is $400+tax

Well gotta buy another controller so my gf and friends or whoever comes over and wants to play can $50+tax

Now we are at $450+tax

Well we gotta buy a charge and play kit with an extra rechargable battery pack for the second controller $42+tax

Now we are at $492+tax

Well gotta buy some games- Forza 2 and Rainbow Six: Vegas $120+tax

Now we are at $612

Well gotta buy an XBOX Live Gold membership to enjoy LIVE $50+tax

Now we are at $662+tax

Oh crap I dont have and can't run wires throught my house so now I gotta buy a WIFI network adapter $100

Now we are at $772+tax

Well now I gotta buy a VGA cable so xbox 360 games will actually give the HD factor $40+tax

Now we are at $812

So there you have it the Xbox 360 is actually a $700+ game system, Dont be fooled by the $400 price tag because everything you need doesnt come with the system.

Do not forget a car to go to the store to get to buy the console so a cheap car for $3000.00

Also a place to live to play the console so say a cheap house $200,000.00

a TV and needs to be a HDTV so another $900.00

Hey what other stupid things can we tack on to the price to make the 360 seem to cost more.

Upgrade your PC and forget about the Xbox.

Save even more money: Games are much cheaper on the PC, plus a host of other significant advantages.

I know.. I'm just poking fun at the TC trying to include games in the total cost of the 360.. which was probably an attempt to make the PS3 look cheap.

Can you play games with the 360 the way it is out of the box? Yes, so any items added on are all optional and for the ones trying to add a bunch of stuff are just inflating the price in hopes to try and make the 360 look bad.

You also need a TV to play it on. So I'll count another $1000 in for HDTV. You'll also need a house to play in, so that's going to be expensive. A bus ticket to the store to buy some games. Oh, and you'll probably need to pay the electricity bill to play.

Wow... gaming is so expensive!

All they did was leave everything out of the box so you'd be forced to pay more for what you need, under the guise of "having a choice". Now that they've given everyone this choice, they don't have a standard across the board for their SKUs. They can't design games that use HDD functionality because they forgot to give it to the base model. This sounds more like a burden than a boon.

Btw, you didn't answer my question. Which peripherals did you buy? Did anyone just spend the sticker price and not buy anything else? Anyone?

This place is infested with lemmings. Trying to get the truth out of them is like trying to get accurate defective return information out of Microsoft: impossible.

again it is not needed to play the games. Some people do not care about online gaming, some do not have a HDTV, and so on. Maybe you are a PS3 user and you are trying to raise the 360 price because the PS3 costs way to much. 360 costs $299 or $399 or $479 no matter how you want to try and spin it. Also if you do not like those 360 prices then spend $499 for a PS3 while they still have those 60gb left because lord knows they need all the sales they can get right now.

The only thing I bought was XBL gold to answer your question.

Hmm, my xbox360 was only 400$ and it came with mic/wireless controller/batteries/component cables/1 month of xbox live gold. so basically all i spent was 450$ for xbox360 + 1 year of xbox live, it's actually worth it, 50$ aint crap to me especially only 1 time a year, better game support, voice chat all games, more demos avalible, better friendlist, talk to friend playing halo 3 while im watching a dvd like dawn of the dead.

updates/patches/levels voice chat is standard for all xbox live games...this is not so on ps3.

call of duty 3 and f.e.a.r on ps3 has no voice chat or communication avalible.

I hope you don't rag on sheep: You are gaming in low res. Also, you can't rag on hermits about gaming alone, as you only game online with friends, similar to what "hermits" have done years before people starting paying to play online.

ive been gaming on high resolution moniter for years, this is nothing new.

SDTV still looks damn good, because it' so low in res the stuff blurs and actually makes graphics appear better sometimes, because you cant pick out graphical flaws as much.

I do not know why you care so much about what I have bought for my console it is 3rd time you have asked me even after I told you. I know how fanboyish people can be on this forum but I do not know how to explain it any better to you. Here is a link http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=020253the 360 costs $399.99 for the most common sku the pro. You can pop in a game into that and play a game with everything that comes with that. If it makes you feel better to inflate the price because you spent $599 for a PS3 fine you go ahead and do that.

hermit's pay monthly fee's like 10-15 $ that's 100 some$ a year for massive multiplayer online role playing games like, world of warcraft.

xbox live is only 50$ a year that's a damn good deal.

Also a place to live to play the console so say a cheap house $200,000.00

a TV and needs to be a HDTV so another $900.00

Hey what other stupid things can we tack on to the price to make the 360 seem to cost more.

Truth_Hurts_U

Here is some more stupid things.

Chair $600

Electric ?

Table/stand $100

Gas and Tire wear ?

Internet costs ?

I can go on an on...

Yes, because charging your controller and tire damage incurred driving to the store are just as vital to gaming as one another.

The TC noted only things directly attached to the Xbox. Lemmings, in damage control and eternal denial and subserviance to Microsoft, continue to obfuscate.

I like your style. Most of the under-funded-public-school populace ran for the hills at the mere sight of all those imposing syllables, but I like. Very nice, how much?

Seriously though, obfuscate? Start them off with some training wheels :P

I hope you don't rag on sheep: You are gaming in low res. Also, you can't rag on hermits about gaming alone, as you only game online with friends, similar to what "hermits" have done years before people starting paying to play online.

hermit's pay monthly fee's like 10-15 $ that's 100 some$ a year for massive multiplayer online role playing games like, world of warcraft.

xbox live is only 50$ a year that's a damn good deal.

A few MMO's do have fees, and that is because they are dynamic. But others, like Guild Wars have none. Also, there are hundreds of titles that have no fee's with no need to pay $50.00 for access to microtransactions, etc.

You know you don't need to buy a MS recharger for the 360 or a battery.

Anyone that uses alot of batteries already owns a AA recharger and batteries. For $30 you charge more then your 360 controller. Why do you need to buy a MS branded battery and charger again?

You don't need all that stuff to play games. What so hard to get about that?

"But the $700+ system!"

Thats like adding all that crap up we just mention for no reason. Add-on's are optional.

Confused about what?

That you don't need to spend $700 to play games?

The only aspect I will agree upon is the purchase of two gaming titles. I believe that should be discounted out of the cost of the 360, as the software is different from hardware.

But to reinforce the integrity of the TC post: In the old Xbox days, Microsoft was advertising the Xbox as a Hi Res gaming device. But alas, no Hi Res dongle was provided when I made the error of purchasing an Xbox. So I had to make an addtional expenditure, as well as aquire component cables to achieve hi res gaming. That was appx $100.00 additional dollars. Yay!!

Monster component cables were $49.99. And then you forgot to include the Hi Def dongle from Microsoft. Look, I'm not trying to deceive anyone. The fact of the matter, and I believe the point in this thread, is to illustrate that console's nickle and dime you to death and elevate gaming cost.

Many consolies use the argument that PC gaming is way to expensive and consoles are much more cost effective. That is wrong. PC's hardware cost are all incurred up front. Console hardware is subsidized by higher game prices and expensive hardware costs that are spread out and less noticible. But they are there just the same.

XBOX original was never pushed as having 1280x720 resolution standard.

very few games supported it or 1080i.

The whole Xbox component package was $50........... They never sold just the cables or just the black box. They sold cables and the little black box together.

If you wanted a cheaper route... Why not buy 3rd party, used items and PC components (you can use PC wireless parts on your 360 and it works. So they say). Why does everything have to be the most expensive and new?

Childlish baby, I mentioned the Xbox, not the Xbox 360. Therefore your insults come from nowhere and are unwarranted. After purchasing an Xbox, I would never, ever conceive of owning a 360, thank you very much.

The original Xbox was toughted at the time of producing CG quality graphics and capable of Hi Res gaming, hence the Hi Res pack Microsoft sold.

You need to seriously re-think your strategy of insults.
