You gave faults to MS that Sony has also... I know it's nice to leave out valid information to make your argument more valid, but in reality neither console really has that much over the other, they always end up one upping eachother.

You can make all the excuses you like, still doesn't change the fact that Microsoft is wiping the floor with Sony, ringing it out, then setting it on fire.

Microsoft has the better games, online service, and media (with the added Netflix)

Sony has......well, unfulfilled promises

Oh yeah Sony also has incomplete games like Grand Theft Auto and Fallout 3. Wouldn't be a Sony game unless it played worse then the 360, looked worse then the 360, and then tossed in less content to boot!

Jaysonguy

That pretty much sums up MS vs Sony to this point. Expect Sony to bonce back in the next few years.

360 dominating that much? Wiping the floor, ringing it out, and set on fire?

I think you might have been living in a cave for a year because PS3 is beating the 360 currently. If anything, 360 is preparing to get wiped on the floor, ringed out and set on fire.

Illusion 3: Console power is based on multiplats and games that came out in 2006 or earlier. Fanboys and Microsoft people alike, has been trying to say the 360 is equally powerful as the PS3. Liars, I say.

Reality: The PS3 has the biggest and most advanced games. The latest major games, multiplats and exclusives, now look or play better on the PS3. More reviews tout PS3 games as the ones that cannot be made on other consoles. PS3 games continue to hold the edge in size and scale.

clone01

i have yet to see a PS3 game that could not be pulled off on a 360, and yes, that includes MGS4.

i have mgs4 and it does not look as good as fanboys say. a lot of games this gen looks better than mgs4

1. Well it still does have the best line-up. And i think it will for the rest of the gen.

2. I don't buy Batteries for my controler, Wi-Fi adapter etc. so overall the difference is small. Also paying 35 pounds every year is not the same as having to pay it all in one go at the beggining.

3. Cell really isn't as powerful as it's hyped to be. It's likje Xbox and Ps2, although Xbox was always hyped to be much more powerful, the games never looked that much better.

4. It is an issue, one good point that you have on your list.

5. This is to do with MS not me, i don't really care about 360's sales. And i think Ps3 will outsell it anyway.

6. Meh, i'm not upgrading to HD this gen unless my Tv brakes down.

7. Well it can play DVD's just fine :) And that's all i need it to do.

I'm just replying to this on a personal basis, so i'm not saying Ps3 won't overcome 360 in sales and success.

ever since its launch, sony fanboys have been saying that 360 would fail. After almost 3 yrs, the 360's nowhere near failing. if anything, ps3's closer to it than 360.

I believe Microsoft is the sneakiest of all the major gaming companies. That's because it seems to employ marketing illusions on gamers.

Illusion 1: The first console to have a larger install base and a better libary of games will continue to do so throughout this generation.Seems good so far. Microsoft launched first and currently has a larger install base and a better libray of games. Will this advantage holds? I don't think so.

Reality: The PS3 is catching up with the 360 in install base, outselling the 360 in all major territorees in 2008. Major multiplats and exclusives (according to reviews) are better on the PS3 in 2008. Developers are now more comfortable with developing on the PS3. Most analysts expect the 360 to lose the console war. Sony invested much more heavily on first and 2nd parties than Microsoft.

Sihanouk

Reality? How can this be reality when your threads always pretend that the Wii doesn't exist when discussing sales? What major multiplats do reviews say are better? Links?

Which exclusives are better? Do you mean MGS4? That's only one, yet you use the plural case. One would think that you'd want to draw LESS, not MORE attention to the fact that the PS3 is a glorified MGS4 delivery device.

You call "fanboys" liars, but then you proceed to prove that you yourself are both a fanboy AND a liar. Shameful.

Cow's are under the illusion that that actually bought a good system :lol:Gh0st_Of_0nyx
It IS a good system. The cow illusion is that it's light years ahead of the 360.

 Grand Theft Auto incomplete. I can assure you, it's the full game. Microsoft is getting short on games while Sony is announcing a crap load of new IPs.

anyone can just announce games but delivering them is not sonys strong points

That's actually one of their best strong points. Sony's weak point is that they always delay everything, but their main strong point (90% of the time, forget Lair and Haze), those delays are worth it and the game's end up very solid or excellent.

Illusion 2: Charging less at the store will make Xbox 360 cheaper. So the 360 costs less than the PS3 at the store. But after a few years of ownership?

Reality: LIVE fees costs $50 per year. Add-ons are generally more expensive than the PS3's. After 5 years, expect to pay an extra $250, more if you buy add-ons like Wirless and hard-drives.

Illusion 3: Console power is based on multiplats and games that came out in 2006 or earlier.Fanboys and Microsoft people alike, has been trying to say the 360 is equally powerful as the PS3. Liars, I say.

Illusion 4: Reliabilty should not be an issue because Microsoft offers a 3 year warranty.Really?

Reality: It is a very big issue. There is the inconvenience of filling out forms and waiting for a fixed console to arrive. Plus, the warranty only lasts 3 yrs. By this holiday alone, that warranty will be over for more than a million gamers.

Illusion 5: Make a few kiddy games, offer LIVE Silver, sell a feature-deprived, cheap console and casuals will come.I don't think so.

Reality: Kiddy games don't sell well on the 360. LIVE Silver doesn't let you play online games for free. Casuals don't play games enough to justify paying for $60 games AND $50 yearly fees just to play online.

Illusion 6: Microsoft gives gamers the option to watch next-gen DVD movies by selling the HD-DVD add-on.

Reality: Without Blu-ray support, Microsoft actually doesn't give their gamers the option to watch next-gen DVD movies at all now that Blu-ray is the only next-gen DVD movie format. They screwed their fans by telling them that HD-DVD was better than Blu-ray. Hundreds and thousands of Xbox 360 owners now have an obsolete add-on.

Illusion 7: Gamers buy consoles only to play games. Really?

Reality: PS3 owners get to play HD games AND watch Blu-ray movies. As such, they get the most out of their HD-TVs.

Sihanouk

It's a pretty good argument, but you're gonna get flamed hard. Also I've noticed alot of lemmings insulting instead of putting up a decent argument.

But then again, you are Sihanouk the big cow me thinks. I'm not sure thou I don't really pay attention.

If the 360 has illusions then the PS3 is the Master Illusionist. 4-D graphics? Extremely advanced graphics with Blu-ray? Oh and TC the 360 will always have better library then the PS3 because it has a better attach ratio, and the developers now this so they make games on the system that will sell the most games.

So, the latest "major" multiplat is Madden '09, Sihanouk. Multiplats don't get much more major than Madden, right? And guess what... no mention of the PS3 version being better, as per per your claims. This is why fanboys who pass off opinions as facts always look foolish.

Why don't you think so? The longer you go in a consoles life, the more games that come out in a given year. The 360 will ALWAYS be a year deeper in and have more games coming out. Sony would need something like 30 AA and higher titles a year for 2 years and MS would have to have zero for the library to catch up. At best sony is coming out with about the same number as the 360...and you don't "catch up" by merely keeping pace. The ONLY support for your statement is the false belief that the PS3 will eventually catch up simply "because its sony". The battlefield has changed and Sony doesn't have the userbase advantage to force things like they did in the past.

Reality, most of what Sony has gained is from Japanese sales alone...a region that has zero reason to NOT get a 360 other than it's a western console. NA sony has barely made a dent in the lead, and after the launch hoopla in EU, the two remain close in sales. Sony has thrown pretty much the best punches it has for a while and MS has just smiled and held its ground. They soon will punch back and sony doesn't have any punches left to throw for a while. It's like MS stood pat for a while, sony gained back 2 of the 5 steps behind they were, and now MS is poised to take 3 steps forward. Please show links to the multiplats scoring higher on the PS3(there aren't any), and so far in 2008 Sony has already released their biggest gun of the year, while MS is holding theres until closer to the holiday season. It's like cows claiming their team is winning because they scored a run in the top of the 1st inning and MS has yet to even bat. Let's wait till the end of 08 and compare the entirety of the year at that time.

For most people, the price they pay for the machine is what they'll pay period. There are no required addons for ANY of the sku's. Those who pay for Live get to play on the most populated, most interconnected, most seamless, and best supported network.

Illusion 3: Console power is based on multiplats and games that came out in 2006 or earlier.Fanboys and Microsoft people alike, has been trying to say the 360 is equally powerful as the PS3. Liars, I say.

Reality: The PS3 has the biggest and most advanced games. The latest major games, multiplats and exclusives, now look or play better on the PS3. More reviews tout PS3 games as the ones that cannot be made on other consoles. PS3 games continue to hold the edge in size and scale.

Reality: Cows have been claiming the PS3 to be more powerful after swallowing the same Sony hype for the third generation of their machines power. They continue to make these claims when NO game has come out to display this surplus power. At best games for the PS3 are FINALLY running on PAR with their 360 counterparts. Seriously, where are the games to support your ascertations?

Illusion 4: Reliabilty should not be an issue because Microsoft offers a 3 year warranty.Really?

Reality: It is a very big issue. There is the inconvenience of filling out forms and waiting for a fixed console to arrive. Plus, the warranty only lasts 3 yrs. By this holiday alone, that warranty will be over for more than a million gamers.

And if these gamers haven't had the RROD by now, what are the odds that they will? The warrenty was still much better than any other electronic device in recent history. Tell me what happens to the PS3 if it dies after a year?

Illusion 5: Make a few kiddy games, offer LIVE Silver, sell a feature-deprived, cheap console and casuals will come.I don't think so.

Reality: Kiddy games don't sell well on the 360. LIVE Silver doesn't let you play online games for free. Casuals don't play games enough to justify paying for $60 games AND $50 yearly fees just to play online.

The machine is still 300 bucks...it's not priced at casuals yet. Once it gets down to the price where those people actually get systems, they'll have content to attract them.

But they DO offer HD movie rentals out of the box. They may not have an optical disc HD delivery format, but they really don't need it either.

Illusion 7: Gamers buy consoles only to play games. Really?

Reality: PS3 owners get to play HD games AND watch Blu-ray movies. As such, they get the most out of their HD-TVs.

Reality: 1080p TV's make up less than 5% of households. Xbox 360 owners get to play the best and largest library of games, play HD and SD movies and television shows, and can stream tons of content off of their PC's. I would say xbox owners get just as much out of their TV's.

What you call obsolete, I call a incredible bargin. I can easily pick up 2-3 great HD DVD movies for the same cost as ONE BR movie. I don't even care if their done putting movies on the format seeing how there's more then enough for me to look into buying. I'll move up to BR once the players are cheaper and once the movies drop dramatically price wise. Can't really argue against getting the Harry Potter collectors case, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Planet Earth series for under $100 total. How much would that cost on BR right now? Close to $200 if Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was even available for BR right now.

SPIN: The PS3 is catching up with the 360 in install base, outselling the 360 in all major territorees in 2008. Major multiplats and exclusives (according to reviews) are better on the PS3 in 2008. Developers are now more comfortable with developing on the PS3. Most analysts expect the 360 to lose the console war. Sony invested much more heavily on first and 2nd parties than Microsoft.

Reality: 360 is leading the PS3. It will be a continuous tug-of-war with price drops and great games from both camps. The PS3 is playing catch-up because it has no other choice but to do so.

Illusion 2: Charging less at the store will make Xbox 360 cheaper. So the 360 costs less than the PS3 at the store. But after a few years of ownership?

DEAD HORSE BEATEN AGAIN (please let him rest in peace): LIVE fees costs $50 per year. Add-ons are generally more expensive than the PS3's. After 5 years, expect to pay an extra $250, more if you buy add-ons like Wirless and hard-drives.

This argument again? There is no winner here. Live fees are well worth the cost. Wireless and additional hard-drives are not required to enjoy the console to their fullest.

Illusion 3: Console power is based on multiplats and games that came out in 2006 or earlier.Fanboys and Microsoft people alike, has been trying to say the 360 is equally powerful as the PS3. Liars, I say.

SPIN: The PS3 has the biggest and most advanced games. The latest major games, multiplats and exclusives, now look or play better on the PS3. More reviews tout PS3 games as the ones that cannot be made on other consoles. PS3 games continue to hold the edge in size and scale.

REALITY: ... as opposed to your illusion that console power is based on multiplats and games taht game out in 2008? Current multiplat games that do look better on PS3 only looks marginally better at best. You can't discount the pre 2007 360 library at your convenience. Size and scale? Like the short gameplay of Uncharted and Heavenly Sword? Or the redundant data copying in Resistance?

Illusion 4: Reliabilty should not be an issue because Microsoft offers a 3 year warranty.Really?

SPIN: It is a very big issue. There is the inconvenience of filling out forms and waiting for a fixed console to arrive. Plus, the warranty only lasts 3 yrs. By this holiday alone, that warranty will be over for more than a million gamers.

REALITY: MS has been very forthright on the matter. They recognize the problem and is making good by extending the warranty, and making repairs. The service is relatively prompt. Yet, despite the inconvenience, the consoles continue to sell.

Illusion 5: Make a few kiddy games, offer LIVE Silver, sell a feature-deprived, cheap console and casuals will come.I don't think so.

SPIN: Kiddy games don't sell well on the 360. LIVE Silver doesn't let you play online games for free. Casuals don't play games enough to justify paying for $60 games AND $50 yearly fees just to play online.

These features are not meant to appeal to the core gamers on the 360. They're there so that they don't ignore the more casual market. Casuals can dip their feet into the Live experience with Silver that comes with free online play for a month. The lower ends SKUs aren't nearly as prominent as the baseline Pro model... pretty much rendering Illusion 5 moot.

Illusion 6: Microsoft gives gamers the option to watch next-gen DVD movies by selling the HD-DVD add-on.

GRASPING FOR STRAWS: Without Blu-ray support, Microsoft actually doesn't give their gamers the option to watch next-gen DVD movies at all now that Blu-ray is the only next-gen DVD movie format. They screwed their fans by telling them that HD-DVD was better than Blu-ray. Hundreds and thousands of Xbox 360 owners now have an obsolete add-on.

When did MS say this? Yes... that's right... when the HDDVD was still active. How is this currently relevant in today's context? It's not.

Illusion 7: Gamers buy consoles only to play games. Really?

SPIN: PS3 owners get to play HD games AND watch Blu-ray movies. As such, they get the most out of their HD-TVs.

REALITY: Only to play games? If that was the case, MS would have added things like media streaming and the video markeplace.

VoodooHak

Woah... I hope you're not too dizzy there... what with all that spin in your post. First, I'd like to see links to where MS claimed any of those things you listed.

Second, "Illusion" implies deceipt. MS has been the most up-front about problems compared to Sony. How's this for illusion:

The power of the cell processor will produce 4th dimension gaming: with all that power, the PS3 produces current games that are only marginally better looking that their 360 counterparts... at best.

Blu ray is necessary: so necessary that many games must be partially installed to the HDD to compensate for the slow drive speed.

"Oh no, the Killzone 2 trailer is totally realtime": self explanatory

Home: it will launch its open beta this fall. At this rate the new 360 dash will launch before Home goes into full production

Reality: The PS3 has the biggest and most advanced games. The latest major games, multiplats and exclusives, now look or play better on the PS3. More reviews tout PS3 games as the ones that cannot be made on other consoles. PS3 games continue to hold the edge in size and scale.

Sihanouk

LOL. You still believe in the illusions, apparently.

Another illusion: A game isn't complete unless you BUY the exapnsions. Keep the illusion coming, Microsoft and fanboys. A house of cards will crumble over time.

Ummm...PSN also offers game add-ons for a price, what's your point?

I don't get it that has nothing to do with what I say.
