who the hell cares about freedom with a console? Isn't the whole damned point of a console the restriction of freedom for ease of development on the platform? I mean true freedom is a PC.

did the PS1 have any freedom (like you're talking about)? NES? SNES? Genesis?

all of them had peripherals so in a sense they're free.. but seriously, what the hell are you looking for?

i'm sorry, but bluray, bluetooth, swapping hds, DO NOT APPEAL TO ME. i'd rather have my console ship with the stuff it NEEDS, i.e. controller, headset, component cables, etc. it's neat that Sony lets you put your own stuff in but I would've been FAR happier if my 700$CDN PS3 came with damned cables and a headset I could use out of the box.

[QUOTE="mlbslugger86"]do you even have a 360?Skippyj9

No, but what does that change about the fact that the 360 lacks freedom?

Yes, it does.

The x360 has freedom of choice. The PS3 does not. You get one package with the PS3 and that's it.

Apparently, One Choice = Freedom to cows.

Ohhhhhh. So being able to choose the Operating System you use, the hard-drive you use, and even the bluetooth headset you use only count as one choice???

You can only install one OS and that's Linux. One option /= Choice

HDD....good point. I will never change the HDD in my PS3 though

Bluetooth headset? You can use various headsets for the x360. One just comes bundled with the system.

Now do you need any more ownage or is that enough, cow?

I may find Xbox 360 very unappealing, but I'm not a "cow".

You can install any PPC compatible OS on the PS3.

(Bluetooth headset was stupid to say, I should've said bluetooth as a whole)

And I'm gonna try and let this thread sink because I think I'm sending people the wrong messages and not clarifying my major point in the first place.

I would have to agree with this PS3 fan, the Cell processor ALLOWS ALL PPC operating systems. This includes MacOS (theoritically), Linux, FreeBSD and other open-source OS. gnutux

I hate to say it, but the 360 makes a better media hub than the PS3. If you can disprove that statement, then do so. I suppose it's somewhat of a challenge I'm issuing here.

Skippyj9

Because of the downloadable media, Xbox 360 is a better media hub. But my point was that the Playstation 3 offers much more freedom than the Xbox 360. (Editing that to make the point more clear)

I don't care about an internet browser. My pc is right next to my 360 and my tv. Im playing GRAW 2 right now.

Bluetooth? who cares? i have my wired head set and wireless head set. I'd rather stick with those instead of going out and buying an expensive bluetooth head set that sucks.

The 360 has more freedom than the ps3.

then you havn't expierenced how much you can really do with the 360.

I mean, you can even develop your own games on XNA...Stream movies and music, connect to your PC, download music, videos, etc.

Define what you mean by freedom.

Being able to choose the peripherals you use and the level of customization of the console. The only freedom the Xbox 360 has is to choose which package you want.

Yeah, its not like you can customize the look of the console with faceplates, the menus with themes, your online representation with gamertags, and your gaming experience with customized soundtracks...

I could buy 1 out of 169 games as opposed to 1 out of 49 on the PS3 or 1 out of approxamitely 100 on the Wii. That is more freedom if you ask me.

And from another point of view, isn't having to pay for all of this stuff less freedom. It sounds like the XBox360 would be a democracy while the PS3 would be a dictatorship.

That's like saying the 360 makes you buy the DVD drive. PS3's main things are Bluray, and Cell. You can't just offer to take them out.

The 360 is a flexible console. It gives you a lot of options that fits your gaming needs. I am not saying that the PS3 doesn't give you any freedom of choice. But compared to the 360, PS3 is not better than the 360 in terms of your so-called FREEDOM. The fact that you stated that the 360 lacks freedom makes you an ignorant fanboy.

No...sony chose to put the bluray player in it, and force a format a lot of gamers didn't need, or want.

Yeah 360 has alot of freedom, for a price.  $600 is a lot for a system i guess, but much cheeper than a 360 with all of its freedom.  I just can't wait untill the 360 speekers and TV comes out so I can have the oppertunity to buy that too! $:)$

I think each console has its strongpoints and weaknesses. The Xbox has the live friends system which is a huge plus, while the ps2 enjoys bluray and the wii enjoys its channels.

Playstation 3 and Wii support Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mainstream standards as storage(SD Flash and 2.5" HD), and internet browsing.

Playstation 3 also supports a HD format standard and allows a new OS such as Linux to be installed. Wii also supports avatar customization.

Xbox 360 supports none of these features.

A Playstation 3 owner just has to pay as little as $99 to upgrade to 120GB and can pick from a wide assortment of manufacturers, yet a Xbox 360 owner must pay $179 and can only buy the hard-drive from Microsoft. 360 users can only use 360 supported wireless devices. Playstation 3 users can use almost any Bluetooth device on their PS3. And of course, Playstation 3 owners are not forced to pay $4 a month in order to play online. Playstation 3 offers freedom and features to owners.

A Wii owner can quickly check the weather, browse the internet (with Opera, the proven fastest internet browser), customize Miis, and utilize the media stored on their Wii (available on all 3 consoles however) all while taking a gaming break. Newgrounds.com even features flash-based games compatible with a Wiimote. The Wii Virtual Console after only 6 months has become the largest downloadable game store on any of the three consoles. Wii is packed with features for both gamers and non-gamers.

The Xbox 360 ranks last in features and freedom available to the user, while the Wii and Playstation 3 excel in these categories.

Yup and here's some more. You can hook just about any USB device to the XBox 360 including the PSP. lol!! You can use whatever Wi_Fi device you want to use on the Xbox 360. You don't have to use M$ brand. I would never want to use my Xbox 360 as a browser. It's a game console, not a computer. Every XBox 360 game support XBox Live. What about the PS3? That's what I thought.

The XBox 360 has choices, which is something the PS3 is lacking in spades.

XBOX360 has a centrelized online system which allows any devs to incorporate online to their games at no further costs, you can watch HD movies and shows on the XBOX360 on-demand, you can instant chat now. You can also connect wi-fi to the xbox360 if you so desired by an add-on and you have access to xlive, a great service with many nice features. I'm not complaining.

Yeah, because superior online, upcoming IPTV, downloadable content for games, downloadable HD TV shows, and universal friends lists aren't as good or better than a web browser that doesn't matter anyway because you can do more using one on a PC and bluetooth.fatzombiepigeon

problem with freedom is unwanted useless freedom, I'm free to go kill some one right? but...ill get caught and put in jail, I can do it but ill go to jail.

Freedom doesn't equal doing something without consiquences....

The wii has all this freedom, and i enjoy its games, but mainly i've been using it as a browser to look up game info while i play my 360....

The ps3? how many people are gonna use the card readers? the only reason people will use the wii's card reader is because it can only read one type and those are used as memory cards in the end.
The ps3 supports every type of memory card but what gamer is gonna edit pictures? look at pictures...ect

oh and another thing WIFI doesn't mean any thing when it comes to freedom, I can easily string ethernet in my house for 10 bux, or by a wireless bridge for 20-50 dollars that will work perfectly fine with the 360.
