[QUOTE="tango90101"][QUOTE="ChiChiMonKilla"][QUOTE="lolag"]i think its a good idea, look at the ps3 it came built in and one of the reason its over 500, and xbox 360 is doing alot of better because its an add on and not built, imagine if the 360 had an built in hd dvd player the core might be 400 dollar and what about the sells judging by that it would be doing like the ps3 not selling enoughChiChiMonKilla
Not having a hd-dvd was smart in the short run but stupin in the long run, sony is making the ps3 cheaper and cheaper because the blu-ray player is getteing cheaper to make. In another 6months to a year it should be as cheap as the 360 dvddrive. While the 360 will be stuck with dvd-9 that is already reaching it's limitswith content being dropped and features also just to fit on one disc.
not true.
the fact standalone players are still upwards of $600 proves this...
Your joking sony's own bd-hp205 cost $399 and sharps bd-hp205 cost under $300 each come with 5 free blu-ray movies also. These are stand alone hometheater units more cost to make than just the player in the ps3. People say sony is desperate dropping the price of the ps3 in the 1st year but the truth is the BD player is much cheaper to make now. Like I said next year it will be at the dvd-roms level and the ps3 will be cheaper to make and cost less also. All the fanboys went crazy over the blu-ray's price but sony knew that it was just temporary and would provide long lasting benifits as a media player and to games also. The evidence that dvd-9 is too small mounts we see devs cutting content in UT3,we see pgr4 lose time of day due to lack of space and many fake HD games are also on the 360. This trend will only get worse not better already devs are making their voices heardsaying blu-raysspace gives them more freedom.
I will not say that blu-ray is needed this year but for GeOW 2 epic already said they don't know how it will fit on one dvd and this is a western dev that does not use cgi that made the best looking game on console not a *** working for sony.
two models aren't enough to carry consumer support. You're going to need much more than that.... (how many different dvd players are on the market? hint: many, many. Consumers demand choices)
the fact that sony's ps3 touts "true hd" and their games STILLl look subpar to 360 games underscores the fact bluray is not needed in gaming..
then again, sony NEVER touted br for gaming.... only their fanboys....
so, if cost really does mean something, hd dvd is better positioned to take the crown against bluray....
one has to wonder tho; if bluray was such a benefit, why are the ps3 games just as long or shorter than 360 games using dvd9?
food for thought...
it's really pointless to brag about bluray from a gaming standpoint. That money does not go to SCE... it goes to their media side of the house...not gaming....
even IF bluray succeeds (looooooong shot), it does not necessarily mean good things for sony's gaming...
btw; check out this netflix report. 3 times as many hd dvd are being rented than bluray..;)
