Xbox 360 now cheaper than Wii in Europe. Is it fair to compare their graphics?

Someone who buys an Arcade doesn't want to play Bioshock and Fable 2, they want to play casual crap. The same casual crap that the wii has more of.

Are you honestly telling me that a hardcore gamer would go out and buy a system because it is cheaper? The audience the arcade is trying to appeal to and the audience the premuim appeals to are two vastly different things. The arcade has great games for the wiicentric gamer, but the Wii trounces all over the Arcades market. Money cant change the tastes of Wii gamers and the core wont attract hardcore gamers.

I dont think it was ever about the price. Well it was, but only to some extent. Its more that Nintendo went for a different focus with the Wii. And its focus is obviously not graphics, so comparing the two would be useless.Can-o-Mark

It is very obvious that price didn't do much for the Wii, seeing that the Gamecube did miserably even though it was a hundred dollar less than their competitor when first launched.The Wii appeal to an wider audience, and to compared graphic with the 360 is still unfair in my opinion just because of a minor price drop.

You aren't paying $250 for the Wii hardware. You're paying $250 to play Nintendo games. That is why it is the same price and will stay that way. Exclusivity is more important than you think.

The price cut will up sales, but if you think it will make sales skyrocket above the Wii you're falling yourself. The gamecube had far more AAA titles than the original xbox by the time it dropped to £99, but that didn't save the system it certianly didn't attract gamers who wanted to play some of the best games in the last generation.

I can tell you this now, I didn't buy a 'core' xbox 360... bought the pro... but I DID NOT buy it to play Fable 2. You talk about Fable 2 like its the second coming of Jesus and its going to make everything in the world alright. Have you even PLAYED the game yet? Oh no, it hasn't come out yet has it? OH, as for proof that you ask for... of the 3-4 Arcade systems I've sold personally.. Not once did I hear the customer having a woody about Fable 2 the way you're making it sound like they are. To your suprise, a lot of 360 owners are casual gamers, that like to play different types of games... I myself, wouldn't consider myself a casual gamer, but I prefer platformers and arcade style shooters over "fable 2".

But you can't have the sophisticated motion controls. Most people don't realize how complicated that technology is. Download the .net librarys sometime and see what it can do. The Wii offers something far more than the 360 and to a lesser extent the ps3.

But there are some kinks in the new things the wii "tries" to do and the 360 has mastered the old things and incorporated their own personal touch to make it even better (ex. achievements, xbox live)

indeed, a FEW games might not work fully, and miss on online, but not everyone plays online, and the vast majority of games will play fine on 360 core with no HDD, that is a host of stunning looking next gen titles playing 100% on core, for 50 euro less than Wii and its not so next gen looking games, no GTA4 etc

Its fair to compare because the only argument Wii fanboys had was the Wii is cheaper than the other consoles, specially the PS3... Now the Xbox360 is in the same price range only its superior to the wii... so what's gonna be the sad excuses wii fanboys will use????

Price is determined by the market. The market is not a grounds for discussing the differentiation in hardware. Therefore, the arguements on hardware stand as they were. The thing you can discuss is why the market will pay $250 (and often more) for a Wii (bundled or not) but MS has to strip down it's package and lower prices to move product.

They are two different debates and one is a factor in the other, but only one factor out of many. If you want to debate price, value, and demand then you must include all the differentating factors and cannot focus on graphics alone.

The Xbox suffers with something called *VARIETY* !! If the Xbox was only £150 I'd still go with my Wii as its more fun than anything which at the current moment is on the Xbox. Yes the Wii has shovelware but so does the Xbox but i will admit not to the extent of the Wii as it is the cheapest console to stick shovelware on as previous console software has not changed much too the Wii's. Saying the Wii-mote is a gimmick is more of a joke than anything else! Try Mario and Sonic at the Olympics and say the Xbox 360 can offer anything close to that ammount of family fun or play MP3 and say the remote does not suit the style of gameplay in a FPS or that Mario galaxy does not deserve its GOTY award for how much innovation that Nintendo put into making that game. I can mention several other games like RE:UC , MoH2, Trauma Centre which feel great on a Wii but i wont.

Yesterday i was playing Army of 2 and i have to say i felt like i was back in the dark ages using Analog!! It feels so primitive its beyond words. Not a bad game but my gosh Analog is soooo 1997.

Soon i should see the PS3 dropping its price! Whoopee.

General rule of thumb: The better graphics a system has, the more expensive it will be.

No not really, the PS2 cost more most of last gen and I seem to recall the Saturn cost the most early on that generation :|. Im going back now so Im not positive but I believe a Master system cost less than a nes when I was a kid, but I didn't pay for it so meh.

exactly. The best selling system is the most expensive because it sells. It has nothing to do with the machines internals.

General rule of thumb: The better graphics a system has, the more expensive it will be. During the start of this generation, nobody cared aboout the Wii having poor graphics because it was so cheap. The PS3 had good graphics, but then again this makes the price much higher. It is not fair to compare the graphics of a $600 console to a $250 one, which is why nbody even tried to compare Wii and PS3 graphics.

However, in Europe, the Xbox 360 Arcade edition now has a cheaper price than the Wii. Because of this reason, I now think it is fair to compare the graphics to the Wii's. If anybody wants to post screenshots which compare Wii graphics up against Xbox 360 graphics, feel free to do so. They are in the same price range, so it is not unfair to compare them.

Your thoughts? Do you think it is now fair to compare the 360's graphics up against the Wii's now that the 360 is cheaper? Or do the innovate motion sensing controllers justify the Wii's relatively high price?

Im so excited for Fable 2! Wow, I didnt think it actually looked that good. Never saw any pics that good yet. Thanks for boosting my excitement. But, I think graphically there are other games that could better reprsent the 360. Mass Effect, Gears, etc.

Do you guys honestly think that people buy a Wii thinking that its the most powerful next gen console? System Wars can compare them on graphics, but the consumer thats willing to spend money is buying them more than any other system. Thats the only opinion worth listening to and the only comparison needed. Everything else is just rants.

And this is coming from a lemming. Wii bashing is almost as prevelant as hermits making threads in hopes that PC gaming will become relevant.
