The Trey.
Dat PS Triple.
On the other side, 360 had Bayonettawhich was almost unplayable on PS3.
after one update (option to install game data into hardrive) ....... Bayonetta is 100% perfect on PS3 ....
100% perfect dog shite, yes
Xbox 360 by far and I honestly don't even see how this is even debatable. There is a reason that Sony made the PS4 more similar to the Xbox 360 than the PS3.
PS3 had better exclusives in the second half of the gen, but the Xbox 360 beats it at absolutely everything else. Xbox 360 had a far better online service which revolutioned gaming, a better controller which is considered by many to be the greatest controller of all time, a better marketplace, a better OS, quicker DLC for the industry's most popular games like GTA and Call of Duty, a better indie scene, industry changing innovations like achievements, better versions of multiplats most of the time, and it had better exclusives in the first half of the gen (PS3 had a terribly slow start).
Hardware=Have to give it to the 360 personally never had RROD and still have my 2007 console in good condition, PS3 had 3 blu-ray failures and a faulty harddrive.
Game Library=PS3, 360 started off well but petered off towards the end.
Network/Online=360 far more stable and faster connection, always found PSN to be slow and can be unstable at times.
Overall personally I give it to the PS3 as the games are more important to me, although I found last GEN MEH.
Wow, takes me back. Back to the days when everyone that supported the PS3 couldn't do so without mentioning the Blurry Drive. Now the tables have kinda switched. But I'm already bored talking about last gen. Yawn.
Is this current gen really that bad and boring that we have to go back to the past and talk about things we've already discussed and debated millions of times last gen?
Yes. I don't know about everyone else, but so far the only thing I got out of my ps4 was pain. I was hyped for Inquisition, and while I don't regard it as terrible, I certainly was not left satisfied with the whole thing. Watch Dogs turned out to be bad, The Order failed as well, so did Destiny. I haven't payed much attention to the Xbox one /Wii U, but at least I can say that compared to my experience with the ps3, this is a joke. Still hoping for FF XV to bring back FF's ancient glory, but that is probably just wishful thinking. I'm playing more with my older consoles than with the ps4, which is not a good sign at all.
The Ps3 had the advantage in Hardware reliability and Graphics but the 360 beat it in everything else, More games, more high scoring games, More genres, Better online and cheaper.
the one thing i will give a huge nod in SONY's direction for is PS+ , Flat out the best service for people running on a budget, it's way cheaper to pay a small subscription fee a month as opposed to buying Full price games at 45 quid a pop and gives people on limited budgets the chance to play games they would probably otherwise not be able to afford, Batting for disadvantaged and poor people is ALWAYS a HUGE win in my book.
The main reason i could never have owned a PS3 over the 360 though was WRPG's to be honest, it's my favorite genre and the 360 had more games in that genre and thats my reason to choosing the 360 as the better console
I won't argue with most of your points, but more high scoring games? Really now? We ARE talking about the people who praised the shit out of Dragon Age 2, right? And not only that, gaming journalism never, and I repeat, never has been reliable. Sure, it is a nice bonus if more games have higher scores, it looks better, but it doesn't say a single thing about the games' actual quality, and thus is not an argument supporting the Xbox 360. Come on, there's no need to resort to bs like that.
The Xbox 360 was lacking in the Jrpg department, which, considering it is one of my favorite genres, kinda took away from its appeal in my pov.
Better online, sure, but cheaper? I don't know the exact price one has to pay for online services, so correct me if I am mistaken, but doesn't the amount of money you pay in 5/6 years for the Xbox online stuff amount to roughly the cost of a ps3?
Had ps+ for a while, might get it once again. Sure was worth it.
Well, in my case it is the opposite. I do like some WRPGs, but I'm more of a fan of the Jrpg genre as already stated, so missing out on the ps3 would have been a grave error.
PS3. All psx, ps2(all on some models), great 2 to 4 game hd remakes, psn games, old arcade games, bluray, ps3 games, supports ps2 controllers, bluetooth controllers, etc. 360 doesn't reach that.
^This really is an immense advantage, considering that people who started gaming with a ps3 basically own 3 consoles in one and thus have a ridiculous variety in games to choose from. Sure, graphics are a thing, but old-school games still have a lot of merit to them.

- I'm of the opinion that in terms of games to play, the Ps3 wins, but I'll get into that afterwards
- As I stated above, the disadvantage about its online service is the payment required to activate it. Perhaps I'm the wrong one to talk about this, mainly due to the fact that I'm not fond of online gaming anyways, but I really wonder whether the difference between Xbox 360 online and Ps3 online really is worth all the money.
- LolAchievements Truly noteworthy because they added so much to gaming, right? No, achievements and trophies alike are pretty pointless. I'm no hater of them, but if the only reason people play games is because of achievements, then this community really has fallen far.
To be honest, this whole discussion is pointless as it basically boils down to 'which kind of games do you prefer?'. From a purely technical standpoint the Xbox 360 might win, but I have a hard time believing that that would be the decisive factor when comparing the two. What most people would or should care about are the exclusives, as those define what the console actually has to offer in terms of gaming experience.
And since that stuff is purely subjective, it is rather hard to nominate one of them the winner. In my case it would be the ps3, but that is because the ps3 has more jrpgs and games like that to offer and as such in general more games that interest me.
Let's look at worthwhile Ps3 games that were not available on the Xbox 360:
-The Atelier franchise
-Demon's Souls
-Disgaea franchise
-Kingdom Hearts
-The Last of Us (I know how many call it overrated because lol so many cutscenes, but try and find me 5 xbox games with better writing)
-Tales of Xillia/Symphonia
-Ico
-Shadow of the Colossus
-Chrono Cross
-Metal Gear Solid series
-Final Fantasy 1-9 + 12 (I'd agree with those who call its writing atrocious, but nevertheless XII managed to include interesting hunts, side quests, lore in the form of item descriptions, the gambit system and some other highly praiseworthy gameplay mechanics. Not a great game, but would have been a great foundation for another FF era)
-Persona 3/4
-Shin Megami Tensei series (Nocturne, Digital Devil etc.)
-Mother-fucking Okami
-Newest Blazblue games
-Ni no Kuni
These are the ones that come to mind right now. The Xbox has some gems as well, but problem is, I don't care about them. I don't care about Halo, nor do I care about Gears of War.
So, basically, it realy just boils down to personal preference in regards to exclusives. And I'm taking Okami and Persona 4 over any xbox game, any day.
tl;dr lol opinions
Game Library - 360 was pretty much a shooter console. PS3 had more artsy games and JRPG support.
LOL WTF
'360 was a shooter console'
No, PS3 had just as many shooters. 360 has Halo and PS3 had Resistance, Killzone and MAG. It's not our fault Sony sucks at shooters.
'PS3 artsy and JRPG'
Exaggerated, it had maybe a handful more games of this type here and there. As for JRPGs, maybe a few extra, but nothing like the PS2 days.
In fact this was the gen Playstation lost its identity and became a western console like the Xbox. People say what did the Xbox bring. It introduced western gaming from the PC over to consoles in a big way, because most of Japan snubbed it. As a result, western gaming became a bigger deal, Playstation adopted it and Japanese game development is in decline.
The consoles were so similar, I couldn't justify buying a PS3 on top of my 360 when the opportunity came up, because truthfully, outside of a handful of games, they are very much the same thing.
@masterkurosawa:
Not only does it play those consoles, but it makes it easy to hook them up to modern tvs yet also offers the component option if one wants to use a crt.
@SolidGame_basic: I have both. Online the 360 was best. Exclusive PS3 Was best, overall the PS3 had a better library aswell. PS3 for me because it's still getting games. 360 has been dead since 2012

Ni no Kuni and Okami (admittedly, it is a HD remastered version) were pretty artsy, more so than most Xbox 360 games. Well, mainly some Tales games (which is already something), some Atelier games, lolHyperdimension Neptunia (for better or worse), Disgaea and some other minor ones. Sure, Persona/Nocturne/Kingdom Hearts etc were some amazing rpgs back then, but it's not like the ps3 didn't do anything special either.
^Which is both good and bad. Good because market and because the western games have some truly outstanding gems as well (Red dead Redemption just to name one), and bad because well, you said it yourself, it isn't anything unique anymore. More western games means less time for japanese ones, but I guess we still have the Nintendo handhelds and the Wii for that.
I looked into the exclusives of both consoles and the ps3's array of games gave it an edge over the Xbox in my case.

Yes, I saw your list in an earlier post. Lots of games that were on previous consoles as well. Also MGS series is on the 360 apart from 1 and 4 and FF games are on many other platforms as well.
It's not so much that their is less time Japanese games, there's less demand now. Which is good for me, western games for western gamers, they appeal to me personally more. I also get this vibe (not from you) that if a game is western, it means it's less 'artsy', and that seems a bit pretentious to me. The indie and arcade scene is pure art.
I agree, Nintendo still feels like a Japanese console.
PS3 game library was much better, so PS3
No. The Xbox 360 had a great library of games and most important better mulitplat games.
Cool story bro, too bad you are wrong.
wii or ps3 would have been the better question.
the 360 was irrelevant, not one memorable game came out of that box. I mean sure... it played mutiplats better than the other 2 consoles, but what good was that when you could also play those same exact games on pc? native 1080p, 60fps.
Honestly, the 360... I'm not taking anything away from the ps3's comeback or late gen quality, but the 360 was the iconic HD console with better multiplats and on pay exclusives...
Also, the dualshock 3 IS to this day still the worst controller I've possibly ever used, compounded by the fact that the 360 controller may be the best.... To some that means little, to me it's a huge deal breaker... I don't dislike the dualshock 3, I effing hate it.
This is more or less my thoughts. '09 was kind of a pivot year where the PS3 started getting all the "just wait" titles and improvements to PSN, along with decent pricepoint. Let's face it that was 4yrs after the 360 came out.
Lessons from last gen: Early adopt Nintendo consoles, wait on MS and Sony consoles, play multiplats on PC.

You can't play Halo 3 on the PC.
actually... you can, if you hook up your 360 to your computer via VGA cables.
NEXT!
@HalcyonScarlet:
About that, I admittedly didn't use 'exclusive' correctly. What I wanted to do was list games which were unavailable to gamers with only a 360. So basically I was just listing what the ps3 has to offer which the 360 doesn't. MGS 2 and 3 are available on the Xbox too? My bad then. I'd still argue that MGS 4 is a point by itself though.
To each his own I guess. As for the 'artsy' thing, I never got that impression either. Journey, Hotline Miami and many adventure games I've played were 'artsy' and colorful. I suppose that notion came into existence after never-ending waves of shooters came out for the ps3 and the xbox 360.
Hmmm that's a tough one for me... If it wasn't for RRoD, I would've stuck with 360 for the majority of last gen for sure. But because of it, I swapped to PS3 as my main console.
So my heart preferred 360, but my brain preferred PS3 (if that makes any sense).
