People think it's the best invention ever? :?
It's popular due to having some excellent games and an excellent online experience.

yeah, preferring or liking the 360 or X console doesn't automatically translate into 'best thing ever'
that's way too drastic in how it's worded.
A lot of Americans think this, but the rest of the world disagrees. 360 outsells the PS3 in the United States only and nowhere else. It's Halo games, Gears of War games, and their fascination with Xlive. The rest of the world doesn't share this fascination. I think it's due to the fact that the 360 is the one that's made in the United States.

I'm in Canada and where I go to school, I'm one of the very few that have never owned a 360.
I think that it's more flashy and has a little better online service is what makes it popular in the United States also. The PS3 is the better hardware and better value for what you get, but Americans are all about what looks good and not necessarily what actually is the best when you compare them side-by-side money spent for what you get.

Posts like this annoy me very, VERY much.
It's almost as if the PS2, PS1, SNES, and all that other cool stuff just didn't happen. :|

you don't even have to go that far.
the Nintendo Wii:| but people conveniently forget all of these.

Exactly. I find it hilarious how half the people creating these threads prefer one console over the other, yet still don't understand that paople other than them have a preference.
But how do you define popularity? The 360 is not really popular when compared to the Wii, this generation's best-selling console. It's not really popular when compared to the PS2, the last generation's best-selling console. It's not really popular when compared to the PC, which still boasts numbers that dwarf the 360 installed base. So where is that amazing popularity?

and the wii?
People bought the 360 for Halo when Halo 3 came out.
Oh look, there are achievements! Oh look, the 360 has games other than Halo! Oh look, the 360 has more games than the PS3! Oh look, it has games that are not on the Wii!
and of course there's those guys that are like "Well I liked the original Xbox, might as well get the next one."
fanboyism and peer pressure? I personally think things would have been alot different if PS3 had come out first, had not been so expensive, and had actually had killer apps the first two years.Deathtransit
those were really the only two reasons you could come up with?

I think those two reasons are part of why it continues to be big with highschoolers, but I did give some other reasons as well in the next sentence. All their buds had Xboxes so they got one too. And of course, the shooters Halo and Gears. But seeing how everyone prefers COD now, I don't think they have as big an impact now.I think that it's more flashy and has a little better online service is what makes it popular in the United States also. This blanket generalization/presumption made me laugh.
But seriously, Sony's marketing sucks. Remember the billboards with the white chick menacingly clutching the the black dude's face? That was the only conceivable way to show that they were introducing a white PSP, right? Epic fail. Meanwhile Xbox runs perectly normal commercials all the time. It's on Oprah, it's on Best Buy commercials, Dr. Gregory House plays one. If Sony would fire all of the German sado-masochists that have apparently been running their ad department for the last 10 years, maybe they might sell more PS3s?

Imagine that! You're really on to something here...

Not only that but....the 360 is NOT made in the United States!!!! All the systems are made in China with processors designed in the United States and parts built in Taiwan. OT; the 360 fans that I know used to be Sony fans until Sony insulted them verbally and with a stupid high price and they never looked back. The way some people think on this board is just offensive and troublesome :(navyguy21
tell me about it.
let them wallow in their own ignorance I guess.
whoever doesn't share the same preference as them, they'll try burying you with their generalizations and a whole lot of lame excuses. and sometimes mixed with a subtle anti-American message.
The way some people think on this board is just offensive and troublesome :(navyguy21It's not offensive if you're bashing America.

How do you go from Souljia Boy to Justin Beiber? :P
I'm like a manticore when it comes to musical taste. I love everything. 8)
ps3 doesn't have a killer ap with serious mass appeal.....still.
GT5 isn't out.. still
Halo practically kept an entire console afloat last generation, This generation people made the switch. PS3 doesn't have a shooter that people want.
Grand Theft Auto, that game where you kill anyone in the city, thats on the 360 now as well.
Most people don't know what title they think of when they hear 'Ps3'.
360's interface is polished.
Ps3's interface is sloppy, always playing catch up to the 360's features. XMB wasn't in game for the longest time. there are still loading times for the XMB.
[QUOTE="J-WOW"]its only popular in the US, and yes here in the US if its popular = best thing ever, but we know thats not true. In my high school everyone had 360, and I think I as the only one with a PS3, they didnt know anything about the PS3 (they really didnt, they had no idea wat games it had, some kids thought PS3 didnt have online play) but they still bashed it and thought the 360 was JesusDeathtransitI think you're right, alot are just ignorant of games and PSN. I think fanboyism is stronger this gen, and that leads to peer pressure to choose the console that is worshipped. Do you think the price hurts PS3 still?
Oh yeah, fanboyism IS certainly more prevailant this generation. Just looking at everything you said, about "fanboyism and ignorance" being the primary reason people buy the 360, you did a fine job of demonstrating how fanboyism runs rampant :)

 @ "peer pressure". who's the fanboy?
Because americans have been given the M$ drug called Hype. The rest of the world is still kind of sane. I'm moving to Japan next month it appears to be immune to it.kuraimen

Eh I still can post in GS from there ;)lol well obviously...
Its a simple answer cause ps3 is stereo typed as asian nerds and xbox is stereotyped as american cool kids.
Before a console generation, there are no games on the system to sway opinions. People rely on the features of the system itself to decide which one to by. Now opinions about the best console are biased by the games on them. This is why the Xbox had the advantage over PS3 because it had good games already when PS3 was released.
