Xbox 360 Price-drop confirmed.

Major Nelson has just posted a blog about six minutes ago confirming that a Xbox 360 price drop is on the way.

This puts the Xbox 360 at a cheaper price than the Wii -- looks like price will not be factor between arguments no more when it comes to the Xbox 360 and Wii.

Come September 5th, the prices will be the following:

• Xbox 360 Arcade $199
• Xbox 360 $299
• Xbox 360 Elite $399

How do you think this will help Microsoft?

PS3 is $299 now? That's a pretty good deal I guess, but it's still 50% more expensive than x360.

Yes, I think this should help M$ very much come November. It might not do much in Sept, but once October is over, there should be a nice surge of 360 sales I would think. I just hope M$ is prepared this time and won't have any shortages like they have had the last 2 years.

The only thing you can't do is play games against other XBox Live members unless you purchase the GOLD Membership for $50. The main different for Xbox Live and PSN is that 95% of 360 games can be played online, while only 60-65% of PS3 games have online support. 100% of 360 games have achievements, whereas the PS3 only has ..... ; you get the point.

I have a 60GB PS3 as well. HOME isn't out yet and Trophies are only in about 4 games out of 100+.:roll:

I never said anything about which system was better. The Xbox 360 has it problems as well. RROD still exists at least until the end of October. XBox 360 need more quality exclusives. The 360 still has a system (Arcade) without a HDD.

Both systems still are capable of playing some incredible games and that's the most important part of any game console.

Trophies just came out, so obviously few games support them at the moment. As for your bull 95-65% ratio, ALL games that have online on 360 also have online functionality on PS3. Nice try though. ;)

While I'm sure none of us actually care about the 360 Arcade, and while it won't do much to slow down the Wii, this price drop will put the 360 ahead of the PS3 this holiday season. When Wii's are sold out everywhere, and parents need to put something under the tree, they're not going to get a $399 PS3. They're going to get a 360 for half the price.Gamer556

I think you underestimmate the power of Blu Ray. Having a PS3 would be ideal for the family, epescailly for the hoildays.

But, you are right. That $199 price is tempting. Even im thinking about getting one the the Arcade models. I already have a 20 gig for the house TV.

What MS needs to do is slap a 20 to 40 gig harddrive on that arcade. I won;t even hesitate to buy that one. The would stall the PS3 even more.
