[QUOTE="blackace"]Silver Membership is free. You can download demos, chat with friends, send messages, update your xbox 360 and purchase movies, T.V. shows, themes and other content. The only thing you can't do is play games against other XBox Live members unless you purchase the GOLD Membership for $50. The main different for Xbox Live and PSN is that 95% of 360 games can be played online, while only 60-65% of PS3 games have online support. 100% of 360 games have achievements, whereas the PS3 only has ..... ; you get the point.

HAHAHA, obviously you don't own a PS3. 65% of PS3 games has online support????? hahalmfao, you joking right? Nice try though. PS3 has achievements btw and in game chat. Stop lying about the PS3, it'll make you less like a fanboy.
Dude, i have a PS3 and in private chat isn't possible. In game chat is pretty non-existent in most games because having a mic isn't standard.
[QUOTE="Gamer556"]While I'm sure none of us actually care about the 360 Arcade, and while it won't do much to slow down the Wii, this price drop will put the 360 ahead of the PS3 this holiday season. When Wii's are sold out everywhere, and parents need to put something under the tree, they're not going to get a $399 PS3. They're going to get a 360 for half the price.hayato_
I think you underestimmate the power of Blu Ray. Having a PS3 would be ideal for the family, epescailly for the hoildays.
But, you are right. That $199 price is tempting. Even im thinking about getting one the the Arcade models. I already have a 20 gig for the house TV.
What MS needs to do is slap a 20 to 40 gig harddrive on that arcade. I won;t even hesitate to buy that one. The would stall the PS3 even more.
The Wii has bad graphics, no HDD, and a regular old DVD drive, and it's dominating the console market. The average console buyer obviously isn't too concerned with the state of the art. The vast majority of people are perfectly content with their DVD players, and I just can't see Blu-ray pushing the PS3 past the 360 this holiday. It's a nice feature, and it does have a market, but it has to overcome a $200 price gap.

I agree, but then I disagree again.
HD TVs are becoming less and less expensive each month and people are buying them especailly around the hoiday seasons. HD TVs will continue to pentrate the market more and more. I do agree that there aren't that many, but im just saying I think HD tVs on the market have a bigger influence then we all now. For what the PS3 offers (Blu Ray, Free online, wi fi, HD, gaming, online movie rentals) the PS3 is clearly a family oriented machine.
Price point isn;t gonna help either.I think people tend to forget also that the Wii doesn;t even sell by itself anymore. There always bundling it with something. The bundles even at $399 (the price of a PS3) is still selling out time in and time out.
It will be interesting if the PS3 again outsells the 360 this year. What will MS do then??

the ps3 has been selling more already. and it expensive to the average consumer. consumers want value and with so many upgrading tvs why not get a ps3 with a blu-ray player. if the 360 couldn't sell more in the slow months i don't think its going to push past the ps3 in the holidays. yes the 199 is going to sell but not for long. all price drops do is create a rise in sales for a month or two and they go down right after that.
oh and does anyone know if this is just a clearance sale. you know getting rid of the arcade and replacing it with something else.sireclabornSadly for you it is not.
Desperation. First out of the gate and destined for last place.howell1972
I find it kinda funny how Nintendo kept it's wii price while 360 and ps3 keeps lowing their prices and yet wii is still selling more. If wii still sells more then 360 then what's lemming excuse, they can't use cause nintendo is cheaper, any more right? Not a sheep, just find it kinda funny

Bottom line is they can't... problem is the damage is already done... Perception is a hard thing to shake. And the wii is already perceveied as the family friendly pick up and play console of choice. No amount of price drops will help M$ or Sony out in that regard. The only thing they can do is hope for 2nd place...
HOWEVER considering that after 4 years on the market the original XB only sold 24 million units.. And after 3 years on the market the 360 looks to surpass that number... (with a higher price tag I might add..) That's still an accomplishment for M$.. Sony on the other hand... :?
I've heard that the xbox 360 arcade is junk. Nobody buys that BS....at least thats what I've heard. I have heard that you shouldn't even buy an xbox 360 if all you can get is the arcade version.odin2019Mirrors
So is the $349.99 price for the 60GB going to go down? I didn't even know there was a 60GB (so excuse me) until I went at Futureshop and saw the bundle and I'm quite interested. Just wondering if that will go down, cause I'll wait for it if it does.SOedipusCouple days.
Wow so for 200 more dollars, the Elite is basically a black arcade with a 120 gig HD. That is ridiculous to charge that much for a HDDlondoxleed
[QUOTE="nickmat_tycoon"][QUOTE="kingman03"]So...for 100 bucks more I can get a PS3 with free online.LastRedMage
so for 80 795$ more, i can get a fully loaded Hummer H3 with surround sound, dvd player, heated leather seats...
isn't that a bad idea with gas prices the way they are?well for 10 000$ more that may pay for enough gas?
THE point is, why buy a 360 when you can pay loads more to get something better?
I think the $199 is a perfect pricepoint to get casuals into the X360 (from the PS2). it's the cheapest price point and from my experience they could care less about online (so no need for the harddrive)
PS3 needs a price drop BAD.....sony thinks this won't hurt them but they are dead wrong.

Yeah, MS sure is desperate.
But if MS is desperate, what does that make Sony? You do know they dropped the price on the PS3 about 8 months after it came out? MS didn't drop the price on the Xbox 360 until the 360 was well into its second year.
