I think its safe to say that the PC has won the System War this year even though I've spent more time personally playing my Xbox 360 and PS3 which is mostly due to the fact that its more convienent. But, I thought it was interesting how everyone felt that the System War is based on sales which gave 360 an upperhand over PS3 yet there is such a large red ring percentage for their systems. Which may not effect sales in a negative way seeing as how we just go out and buy a new one if the warranty is up but it should factor in to the discussion. Is this a fair assessment?

It's possible, but in no way can it be proven. All in all, a waste of time to try and arbitrarily define just how many people went and purchased a new 360 due to RROD. It's like trying to work out how many people buy new SKUs as they release and get rid of/don't use their old ones.

Isn't that the percentage that plays PS3 all the time instead of the 360? Can't red ring if it doesn't turn on!

Red Rings pretty much completely stopped occuring in new xboxs several years ago. Anyone whos having that problem now is using an older xbox. I don't think its fair to take that into account if your trying to judge consoles for this year only.

I also find it weird that you think consoles are more convinient. I'm always on the computer, be it for watching TV, doing homework, browsing the web, looking at news, ect. At any time I can start up a game in steam. I don't see how thats incovinient.

All I know is that I'm on my 6th 360 after 5 red rings. I would have ditched it long ago if it weren't so dang good, but my PS3 is only on its second iteration and I got both at launch.

Your right if we are talking about this year which is what I had mentioned. I know some people close the door on the discussion when talking about systems and say specific systems lost "this gen" which I don't think can be made at this point. I am on my computer more but when it comes to playing games I usually want to get away from the desk and sit on the couch and use the big screen. I spend too much time on computers as school, etc.

Just a random article, obviously its not entirely accurate but I've heard numbers larger than that before. I don't think its insane to think the numbers are that high. I don't have a friend that hasn't recieved a red ring.

Yeah. I think the Xbox 360 and PS3 this gen end up at a tie. Xbox 360 had more sales, better online functionality, better graphics in most AAA games, but it lacked in exclusives, and faulty hardware. I know there are a few years left but that seems the direction things are headed. All I wanted to say in this thread without trolling like I did in some previous threads is that the Red Ring is an issue that should be taken into account.

You're right. 90% of my friends and 20% of your friends, we can say its around the 50% range. Okay, in all seriousness I don't think you can dispute the fact that it has been a large issue. Whether the number was 54.2%, 30%, 65%, or we know or don't know people who've experienced it.

I do think the RROD is a significant factor in the 360 sales but exactly how significant is impossible to tell.

no doubt it was a problem, just not nearly as far gone as some of these forums would lead you to believe. going by this place, EVERY SINGLE person has had an xbox RROD on them, which is just pure tom foolery.

So people are still operating under the erroneous assumption that 360 owners would spend money on a new console rather than use their warranty which fixers it for FREE, in order to adjust the world sales? A warranty that's 3 years and was retroactively applied to people who owned one before the policy change. It would be far more likely to adjust the PS2 sales (last at 140-150 MIL), since Sony NEVER offered free repairs for broken systems.

Word of advice; logic is your friend, don't fight it, and you'll see things in a better light :)

Okkay so let's take an arbitrary number and try to prove 54.2% of 360's sales are people rebuying (I guess they don't know what a warranty means? :? ) That's like guessing how many people bought a PS3 for the blu-ray

I wasn't saying all 360 owners bought new 360's instead of using the warranty, i'm sayin there are people who had, in most cases because their warranty was up. That wasn't really my point, point was that IF the system war was based on sales then RROD should be brought into question.

Except people don't realize that society is dumber than most people would believe. There are a lot of people who don't read or keep track of things and are oblivious to what options are afforded them. I have a friend who is on his fourth 360 and he paid for every single one of them. It's dumb, but he's not the brightest guy. I'm not saying that happens more than not, but it does happen, and more than it should.

not completely, because the 54.2% is based off a poll from a website. so he would believe the world is flat, because a poll on the internet told him it was

I'm convinced that the early launch models of ps3's are defective too. I wish sony did something about it but I highly doubt they would. If it wasn't for the bluray player, I would seriously go back to buying another xbox 360.
