The thing is that the 360 isn't twice as powerful as the ps3 its not even as powerful as the ps3. The N64 had twice the power of the ps1. The N64 had the worse format for the games with the carts and the thus the 360 doesn't have as good a format as blu ray. Blu ray is the best the market has to offer at the moment. N64 had goldeneye and 360 has halo 3 but that doesn't matter because everyone has cod4 and 360 isn't dominate in any game category at this point in time. Maybe rpgs but you can't really say its dominate in that area because only like one or two of those rpgs turned out to be good games. In order to be dominate in a game category you have to not only have more games in that category but they have to be good games and you have to have a couple of these like at least 4 or 5 games.

The thing that people seem to not realize about this whole thing is ps2 has sold over 100 million consoles last gen. So 360 will have to convert at least half that 100 million in order to be dominate in the main console fight. I don't see it happening because of the cost of live when ps3 online is free and MS will be releasing in a new console in what 2 years from now........Which means that people don't get as much of their moneys worth with 5 year life span console compared to a 10 year life span console.

Yes it's gonna have a nice holiday season with the price drop and Gears 2, that can't be denied. But honestly, do you see the DVD format going strong one year from now???? Do you think Blue-Ray games will look the way they look like now??? There's very little that can be done to improve the DVD format, and the Blue-Ray is just getting started.Macalation

I personally love Bluray movies, but I don't really see any advantages game-wise at all. If there were some graphical advantage in having all that extra storage space, we sure haven't seen it. PS3 and 360 are neck and neck to this point. MGS4 had great sound and all, but would any of us really have noticed if they compressed the audio instead of filling the bluray with uncompressed sound?

Um....

This is stupid, Blu-ray and DVD are hardly the same thing as Cartridge and CD.

That won't happen with the 360 though. They'll just release a new one before the rest to get in the sales from blind loyalists.

And the 360 is significantly better than the Xbox. The N64 was a step down.

Poor comparison.

Wow. How could you try to diss the N64:o

Probably the greatest console ever made right next to Dreamcast.

SNES >> All

The super awesomeness that was the SNes can not match the SUPER DUPER AWESOMENESS that was the N64:P

Hmm....you know, with the 360 making 3rd party developers boat loads of money, the 360 still leading software sales, the 360 being the easier platform to develop on (according to most developers), and the 360 having the most development houses making games for it right now, I bet those 3rd parties are sure looking to bail on it.

So... what exactly are the limitations on the DVD format? They are mythical. They are nonexistent. No developer has ever yet been limited by working with DVD format, and the only advantage developers have ever gained from using Blu-ray is the ability to leave all their files lying around uncompressed.

Blu-Ray is the LASER that the console uses to read the games and transfer data, hence the name... Blu...Ray... if the games weren't Blu-ray the ps3 would need a second laser to read games.

The N64 is more like the PS3. It's one of the biggest disappointement in gaming history!

Ugh the second I saw format i stopped reading, Blu Ray has done nothing to make PS3 games better than 360/PC games, this arguement is redundant.

2 things:

1. Carts were more expensive than CDs and a fraction of the size: 700mb vs 32mb? I think was the biggest cart on N64. You'd need about 25 or so big carts to match a single CD. You only need 4 or 5 DVDs to match a Blu Ray. Not to mention the biggest games of this gen, GTA4, Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, Orange Box etc are all fitting on a single DVD.

2. N64 had barely any games apart from Nintendo/Rare. From the day it launched til the day it died. 360 has had terrific 3rd party support that continues to grow.

i see your point but you are going to far with this..

dvd's cost less that cartridges im sure so if any games need more than one disc then so be it..the whole rage thing only happened so the devs could get ms to plump up the cash for the release of more than one disc....

bye..
