the original xbox 360 had like a 54% failure rate... im on my 3rd xbox and i got the slim model... im just wondering if its built worse?? i mean, they put alot more fans on the thing so it hopefully fixes the rrod and prevent it from over heating... but no matter which side i put the xbox on theirs vents that allow any debris or dust to fall into the machine... also the disc tray is gettin old, ive already had a problem with can't read my brand new halo reach disc...

ps3 is built way better. i guess ill have to leave a towel over my machine when im not using it :S thanks microsoft

IMO, the slim 360 model is a joke. It literally is 4GB of nothing. I mean, you literally cannot even play Firefight in Reach. For an extra $100 you could have had a 250GB HDD.

That being said, I'm on my 2nd 360 and I had a launch 360. Have only had one Red Ring. I've also had my original 40GB PS3 stop reading discs as well. So no hardware is perfect. Only difference is MS replaced my 360 for free. Sony wouldn't do anything because I was 2 months past the 1 year warranty.

So it allows debris into the machine, maybe they should completely seal it... And lol at your 54% figure, your facts are great.

DroidPhysX

The failure rate is super super high, that seems low to me.

The new model is built very well, uses 1/3 less power and outputs 40% less heat into a better cooling system. OP sounds like hes fishing.

when they do, you quote the 11% failure rate of the ps3 in that same article...far more then Sony's claims of below 1%.

The 360 didn't have a 54% failure rate, that's a survey of like 5000 people done online :| And I very much doubt you even have a 360, GT please

Well, there are two version of it. The one I'm speaking of is the cheapest version (the $199 version) which apparently is selling like crazy. That's what I'm talking about.

umm, no. Games and Exclusives are very your opinon, lately PS3 has been putting out arguably better Exclusives. and 360 has been having less Exclusive Exclusives lately. What do you mean by games? Because most games these days are on both consoles. Scores? what scores? GS Scores? IGN Scores? Metacritic? and sales, yes, but really its mainly in the USA and overal. So maybe you have one of your points right.

So... maybe YOU should get over it? Also, why am I feeding a troll?

The cooling in the new 360 slim is still insufficient, the whole thing has one cooling fan. They are using a normal pc cpu type of heatsink to cool both the cpu and gpu, and have the fan on backwards, its more efficent to blow cool air onto and through the heatsink fins then to suck air through them. They're following the same dumb cooling scheme as the normal 360's all forced outtake and no forced intake. The only thing they did to help the overheating issue was to add a failsafe to prevent overheating. A simple fix is all that was needed to overcome this problem to begin with add an intake fan.

The new 360 slim is built fine and this is coming from someone with 2 ps3's also. It is a lot better than the previous models including the Jasper and it looks really nice also.

Microsoft has never released an official number on the failure rate and a small survey is hardly factual evidence.

The personal experience of one person is irrelevant. Microsoft has not released an official number and until they do, all statistics released otherwise (especially if they are obtained through poor means, like a poll) are moot.

That's pretty cool.

thanks, I made a few for friends and that were getting getting tired of their 360's RRoD'ing, When my brother's 360 died the 3rd time I talked to the UPS guy, and he told me they get 20-30 xbox's a week at that store. And I dont live in a hot area, so I believe the 30% RROD rate and the other 20% of other hardware failure rates.

I genuinely believe every single 360 made in the first two years of production will fail within the somewhat near future. Its a broken design that cannot sustain itself with directly modifying the console like you did. I still cant believe M$ released that.

I think the updated model at 2 years fixes it for well ventillated areas and the new one fixes it for good (minus random hardware failures).

Two 80mm fans. 80mm fan grills, superglue(to permanently attach the fans side by side), a 4 pin molex power supply, and velcro tape(to be able to remove and secure the fans to the 360. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU_g78WK-x8

Wii probably has more games then both PS3/360 combined, that doesn't even matter if they aren't good. Xbox does NOT have more exclusives then Ps3 lol, Wii has more sales then Xbox so what's your point?

And it has more scores or better scores? Does it really?

I have a Jasper RE5 LE Xbox 360 and it works fine, my disc tray works fine since I never use it since I load everything to play off the HDD, I was thinking of upgrading it to an Xbox 360 Slim but I've heard about too many problems. I don't know if these problems are just a bunch of hate stir or legitimate, after all I haven't read any articles about it from gaming journalists and you'd think they'd be all over this considering how they covered RROD issues. Still though, has me hesitant about updating, after all the Jasper Xbox 360 works fine so why ruin a good thing anyways, and I figure if I wait I'll know if there's really a problem or not or if there is maybe they can fix it.

idk I have gotten differnt red rings for almost all my 360s(4 now) but they always work fine...my first one had 1 red light my second never had none, my third had 3 and my 4th had 4 and basically I just unplugged them and plugged them back in and they worked fine and it never happend again for any of them. Isn't the 3 rings always supposed to mean death? IDK they are always fine and I leave it and all my other systems on 24/7.

i highly doubt the new 360 slims will be anywhere near as unrelieable as the original, the single 45nm die which houses the GPU and CPU are placed right next to the right intake vent, with a heat sink on top with a fan directly on top of that that exhausts the air through the top vent, the problem with the original , apart from a dodgy substrate layer, was the distance the two fans had to drag the air through the console,it just wasn't dragging in enough cold air, i fixed mine by attaching two stackfans to the back running at 12v instead of 7.5v to increase the amount of air being inhaled into the console.

Please prove where you found "20% of JASPER RROD" because i've not yet seen any jasper RROD even if you google search you'll find more PS3 YLOD than a jasper RROD. M$ already fixed the RROD problem with the jasper so the even more advanced than the jasper unit.

Um... no the if the jasper from MS fixed the RROD then why did two of my freind's jasper models of the 360, RROD'ed at 6 and 9 months later ? Dont believe the propaganda, the jaspers only lower the power load and heat produced by only 18% or so. The cooling in all the 360's arent enough even with all the die shrinks and liittle cooling upgrades (air duct and heatpipe).

Isn't the original 360 have a failure rate of over 70%? I'm pretty sure the slim isn't all that better, probably around 30-40% failure rate. Microsoft is terrible when it comes to hardware.

All i know is that my launch console Rrod on me , then the refurb Microsoft sent me the dvd drive went out then it i got the e74 error . Now my elite for the past two years that i didn't have any issues untill this weekend e74d on me . So i really wouldn't be surprised if the failure rate was over 50 % on the old models . For the new slims i have no freaking clue .

I think of all the wrong statements, putting a towel on it would be the most counter-intuitive thing you could do.

Vent it. Its no different than any device, it needs air. Its not a difficult concept, everyone gets a few dvd errors, so do my PS3 and Wii.

Everyone knows the Wii and PS3 were built much better than all 360s.

high quality stuff tends to have more risks

xbox is still better that is why when ppl get RROD they still continue to buy the xbox 360
