I already have a hd tv and the componet cables plugged into the back of the reciever. I need HDMI why?

Does Microsoft manufacture HDTV's? I don't think so. Sony has been and most likely will always be the #1 manufacturer of televisions. What does this mean? This means that if high end 1080p televisions should use HDMI to connect, then they will, cause all other HDTV manufacturers will follow suit once Sony puts them to use (which they have).

The back of my TV has 2 HDMI ports and 2 Component Inputs. Adding HDMI ports is relatively cheap. Those same TV companies already are adding them, and keeping the component inputs.

Uh, I could be wrong but don't VGA and Component both do 1080p?

Yes, but many HDTV's won't accept 1080p via component or VGA.

Well that's a problem with the TV, not the original Xbox360. I was responding to someone saying the 360 wouldn't be able to provide a 1080p resolution. I don't understand why adding HDMI to a future 360 revision makes the current one unable to provide 1080p. If the cables, and the TV can handle it. Then current 360 owners can watch 1080p just fine.

@asmallchild and wingman

...You both realize that I WILL enjoy my new games on my current 360 even when the Zephyr comes out? No extra $$$ needed to take FULL advantage of new games.  You however, will be dishing out an additional $50 just to enjoy everything offered by new games w/rumble on the PS3.

Ultimas_Blade

I would dish out 50 bucks if i didnt enjoy my experience without rumble but thats not the case so Ill stick with what i got til the time comes when i need a new controller....u on the other hand wont be able to take the full advantage of HD for ur games without HDMI and when the time comes to finally upgrade youll be spending 300+ dollars for it.

How can I not take advantage? VGA cables are like $30 and they do 1080p. Some games can do 1080p over component so where is the superiority of HDMI? No upgrade needed to play new games at their best. I get to enjoy everything out the box, you all don't even have HD cables in your box for Christ's sake, yet you have a fricking blu-ray drive in that thing! Prior planning is a wonderful thing when it is used right, especially when you have a year to play catch up.

Well these rumors are floating around saying MS might come out with a 360 with HDMI, hmm so i wonder why they would do something like that, maybe to take full advantage of HD quality.

What if you want Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD for lossless audio? You can only get that via HDMI.

Optical cable directly into surround sound. Not sure if it does that TrueHD or DTS-HD that you are talking about (both sound like the spawn of a marketting department) but it sounds pretty fantastic as it is.
