Xbox 360 version of FFXIII penetrates 39% of first week NA/EU sales

Following our preliminary day one data from last week which showed nearly 800,000 units sold on day one, we now have preliminary week one data (week ending 13th March 2010) and total Final Fantasy XIII sales have hit 1.2 million units across the Americas and Other Regions, taking the worldwide total to over 3 million when including the PS3 launch in Japan late last year.

Worldwide, 61% of units sold were on PS3 and 39% on Xbox360 - Microsoft's console actually increasing in share from launch day to the full week. As mentioned in last week's pre-order data, VGChartz expects sales to be far more even between consoles following initial launch as casual consumers are likely to buy the game roughly in the ratio of hardware install base whereas the core Final Fantasy fans who pick the game up in week one (and day one in particular) will have more of a Playstation bias as the Final Fantasy series is more synonymous with the Sony brand.

Breaking down by region, over 680,000 units were sold in the Americas with 57% on PS3 and over 520,000 in Other Regions (Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa, Oceania) with 66% on PS3.

Here are the estimates for the mathematically deficient:

NA (PS3)- 387,600

NA (360)- 292,400

EU (PS3)- 343,200

EU (360)- 176,800

What does this mean? Well folks, it means that Square-Enix can make even more money by having their games be multiplatform. 39% is a huge number, especially on an alien system for the Final Fantasy franchise. Don't be too surprised to see future installments become multiplat releases (at least in the West).

Anyway, how would Final Fantasy XIII sell more if it was exclusive? What kind of logic is that? The proof is staring at you in the face that it clearly sold more as being a multiplatform title. Sheesh, the ignorance is... to be expected on System Wars.

and while multiplatform means more gamesales, it goes without saying that exclusive would have still sold a lot and also would've moved more console sales.

Didn't say it did. I was just saying that was one of Sony's big hitters, considering FFXIII was multiplat.

On top of that, we have no official sales numbers yet, so we don't know exactly how well it sold.

Actually, the highest scoring racing game on GS was Test Drive Le Mans for DC with a score of 9.6.

On GR the highest scoring racing game was Wipeout XL, followed by Gran Turismo for PS.

This was expected. FF fans that only owned 360s did not need to purchase a PS3 to play the game. People with both systems most likely picked up the PS3 version...I would think.

Those are North American and European sales. Here is the total from just those two places:

World on PS3 (not including Japan): 730,800

World on 360 (not including Japan): 469,200

That is a total of about 300,000 MORE on PS3....minus a little bit.

2. They are not PS3 biased, PS3 had a large sale jum on 2nd half of 2009 and this is not only VGCharts imagination

Even if it were accurate, taking into account the 2 million units, confirmed to be sold through by an actual reputable source, the actual proportion of the two versions is more along the lines of 85% (PS3) vs 15% (360).

If such a western ratio holds and FFXIII reaches maybe 2 million units in the west, then it will end up being roughly a 4:1 worldwide ratio.

At which point SE will probably analyse whether the additional development time/cost was worth it to garner the additional western sales.

If those numbers are right, they're VGchartz so you're lucky I'm even responding, 360 version did well. No reason to not have the game on the 360 from now on. (well their are but you could argue otherwise)
