Would it not have had a failure rate higher then all the consoles or scratching the disk if moved a bit if it waited another year to be released? It's an amazing system though!

yeah if it wasnt for its unreliable harwdare they could've easily be the best console this gen overall.. but at least they made an effort to recover from it with warranties and the jasper release.

I agree I feel it was rushed and it make you wonder what they could have produce had they not rushed it. I have the 360 Elite and it a great machine. I Bet the next gen will be mind blowing.

I agree but then again MS said it thinks the 360 has like an 8 year life span. With Natal coming out I think the next system is not coming out any time soon... -sigh-

It was rushed because playstation brand loyalty, so if it lauched at the same time, even being cheaper, PS would still win. so MS wanted to get out early. Was it worth it?? Judging by current marketshare..........id say yes, they took a 1bn hit, but its well worth it because the are very profitable this gen. Sucks for consumers though, but every company makes business decisions, and thats what it was, they did it to have a chance

You need to give MS time to get this whole "hardware" thing down, lord knows they have the whole "software" thing down.

It's a little obvious

Let's hope MS learned from this for the next gen. They got the software down pretty good though.

The original X-Box was only 4 years old when the 360 came out. It's amazing how quickly MS had to ditch that system to get a head start this gen.

wouldnt say desperation lol, but a smart (and much needed) business move in order to gain dev support, which they didnt have much of last gen because of the mammoth known as PS2

You are correct, Vista is what happens with no competition, but that no competition in the OS Market seems to make MS think they have no competition in any market

Before you say a thing, Sony made that mistake but they are rebounding from that similar attitude.

Rumor says so: MS knew about RRoD but they just rushed the console to have the upper hand.

Just a rumour?? Maybe, but anything is possible.

I think Wii, 360 and the PS3 was rushed a little. 360 with the obvious RROD and disc scratching problems PS3 got a slow BR drive and I think Sony found out that one of the CELL's SPU was faulty so the decided to disable one of them instead of throwing/ fixing the problem. (not too sure if that is true though). Wii controller should have had motion plus from the beginning. Always found it wierd in wii bowling where yu can bowl using an overarm throw and the animation would still be the same.

I dont believe it was, Oh if they had waited a year they likely wouldn't have nearly the failure rate * i doubt it ever got past 30% any ways* but in teh end it all came down to them using a cheap fabrication company to produce the 360 in design and manufacture and not going with a more expensive one.

Obviously rushed, I mean the xbox was more reliable than the PS2. It cost them $1.3 billion though.

Seems like they just didn't test it thoroughly. Actually they probably knew about the problems but decided it wasn't worth fixing. (As in flow graphs and pie charts said it wasn't financially worth fixing...)

I agree that it was a rushed product but MS did this wisely. They probably knew there were going to have reliability issues but they took the risk to gain marketshare. IMO, the move did pay off.

I agree. Considering most of them are quite expensive (mainly at launch), it'll be a good protection for early adopters.

Yes it was rushed but launching at 2005 was the smartest move Microsoft made with the 360.

I remember mentioning on another forum the concern about 360 being released early, possibly resulting in hardware issues due to the lack of testing. The people on the forum were viciously defensive and bashed me for suggesting a year early could result in problems.

Whose laughing now :P pretty much no one will question that 360 needed additional quality testing today.

In order for Microsoft to have ANY chance at #1 this gen, they had to release early. Very early. One whole year before the rest. Meaning some sacrifices had to be made, such as Wi-Fi, internal storage, standard wireless controllers, all standards for game consoles today, that were absent from the Xbox 360. Also, that decision also turned it's ugly head when Red Rings of Death started happening. If Microsoft would have released in 2006, like it was supposed to, the console would be of much higher quality, but don't expect it to be winning at any thing.

I don't think it was rushed to market, however it's possible that during Product Testing the design flaws weren't caught by the testers, however I also think people have blown the 360s failure rate out of preportion, I can't help but wonder how many RRODs were actually nothing more serious then not having the console plugged in correctly (All 4 Lights being Red, as opposed to the 3 lights that signal General Hardware Failure)

Yeap... But to be honest this gen isnt to rosy with the consoles...

Xbox 360 got rushed
PS3 had **** for games for a year and cost its weight in pure gold
Wii got off to a good start but is starting to crash and burn with the shovelware and ****ty hardware...

Luckily all but the Wii have got rid of their problems mostly...

Yes to me it was a failure. Everyone I know had problems with it and they all either got a new console or went through that vicious circle of getting it repaired only for it to fail again mounths later. The funny thing is, even with all its hardware failures people still bought the system. To this day it boggles my mind how microsoft didn't do a recall?
