Xbox 360's reliablity holding it back?

After looking through a thread about how the 360 should techically have better graphics capabilities than the ps3,

I think i have a reason why the 360 exclusives are not pushing as far as the ps3 exclusives.

When you run a game on your pc on highest settings and its really pushing the computer, it gets really hot and crashes ( if you have my comp :[ ) as apposed to playing on low resolution and low settings where it will run good )

Now this should be the same with consoles, maybe the devs are thinking, if we do try to push the 360 too much, the systems may just fail ( over heating problems)

Im thinking, as microsoft make the 360's more reliable and heat resistant, the exclusives will look better??

Your thoughts?

OH, I see that theories are welcome in this thread, so I will EXACTLY counter the TC's Theory with an exact opposite.

After looking through a thread about how the PS3 should techically have better graphics capabilities than the 360...I wondered Perhaps,

the 360 is working so hard to keep up with the PS3, that the reliability is sacrificed.

That's why there is an RROD and E74, the 360 is working OVERTIME to keep up with the PS3...Imagine if the PS3 was overworked!!!!

That's how this thread works, right?

360 exclusives are mostly made with multiplatform engines, that is why they are not nearly pushing 360 yet

Also of course the bad press from the RROD has held sales million back

Im not seeing the logic in that to be honest with you. Thats like when all the PS3's including mine broke down on GTAIV. Unless its malicious code or a virus that attacks the OS,software does not break hardware. Just because the system breaks has nothing to do with the disc. I also remember everyone saying on these very boards that Dead Rising was killing 360's. Last I checked hardware issues are really no more less, but games have advanced. If there was a correlation there would be no Gears 2 or GTAIV which supposedly killed some PS3's  Really thats just what was out when the drives started failing but the point is that would have taken out half the 360's out there if it was the software.

Lack of quality exclusives, most games avaivable on pc/ps3

Live costs money and doesnt even offer dedicated servers

Powerbrick is HUGE,ps3 has it built in.

Controller is in many ways old design/tech with a crappy D-pad, no pressure sensitive buttons except triggers. and it uses batteries

No built in Wifi

Fix those and i might consider 1 again.

Reliability

Jasper!

747 noise

Not noticed mine, but it less noisey than my PC!

Disc Scratching

Still haven't met someone who's actually had this happen to them so I'll deny it's existance. If it does exist I'll question what was happening with the 360 when it happened.

RROD

You've mentioned Reliablity already but I'll say it again Jasper

E-74

And again Jasper

Lack of quality exclusives, most games avaivable on pc/ps3

PS3 has 2 exclusive that are quality and 1 of those is debated as to how good it is.

Live costs money and doesnt even offer dedicated servers

PSN isn't free the costs are just hidden in Home shirt sales.

Powerbrick is HUGE,ps3 has it built in.

Is that why the PS3 weighs about 20kilos?

Controller is in many ways old design/tech with a crappy D-pad, no pressure sensitive buttons except triggers. and it uses batteries

What happens if you are mid game playing with a Sixaxis/Dual Shock and it dies on you, what happens when the batteries in the controller (BECAUSE YES IT DOES HAVE THEM) start to wear out, rechargables only have a given life span of recharges and they will die on you!!! Oh and by the way my controllers are wireless without batteries because I spent £6 making it that way hardly broke the bank!

Add to that the fact that the Dualshock has barely changed, except to add triggers in 15 years and the current 360 controller is an evoloution of form that fits my hands like a glove, I know which I'd rather use for playing Fallout 3 for hours on end with. Oh and when playing fallout 3 what do I use the D-pad for again? Oh yes changing weapons!!!! Such an important control function isn't it.

Oh and pressure sensative buttons, don't make me laught how much fine dexterity control on your thumbs does the average gamer truely have!!!

No built in Wifi

Wifi is not the best way of playing games and I don't need it so why should I pay for it? My router is NEXT to my 360!!!!!! I'll take the better connection speed and reliability of a good 'ol CAT5 thanks. It also saves on the cost of the console!

Fix those and i might consider 1 again.

All these issues are beginging to sound like a broken record.

One thing I will add is price! When's the fabelled PS3 price drop then?

1. Obviously jasper hasnt helped much at all

2. A dutch tv-program did a whole show where they tested multiple brand new 360 and games and the verdict was that they actually do scratch games. MS gave no comment. I have a copy of gears thats scratched and i cant play MP , SP ends when i meet up with cole.

3. You cant debate personal preference.

4. Thats grasping for straws, many clothes are free if you even begin to care.

5. 20kg? not even half of that.

6. Well if the battery dies sometime year 2049 ill just play it with the usb cable plugged in.

7. Why fix something thats not broken. DS3 is fine, no great IMO.

8. I have my router about 10m from my ps3 and i havent had any lag, latency, ping or connection problems at all. All works perfectly the way it should on a 8mb/s connection.

9. Price drop? For the features the ps3 gives you, its a steal i mean it, 340€ is not that expensive for a console that has a huge value. Keep trying, this thread was about the 360 not the ps3.

hmmm i think the only place holding 360 back when it comes to reliability is sales if the 360 had been reliable from day one, I can pretty much gurantee that it woudl be 15-20 million ahead of the ps3 infact it probably would be at the same sales mark as Wii.

no i don't think they are related. 360 has some great looknig games like gears2, farcry 2 and fallout 3. Just because ps3 has a better looking game, doesn't mean the 360 isn't getting good looking exclusives. It's not like killzone 2 kills gears 2 in the graphics department, they both have their merits.

I'm sure it's reliability is holding it back some-what. By how much? Who knows, other than Microsoft. The 360 exclusives still look quite good, for console gaming. If you add-in the 360's much better online experience, the tiny differences in graphics don't much matter, though.

put your favorite game in a 360 and pick it up man, then try it with a ps3. it will scratch the 360's disk. jasper didn't help, my 5 lemming friends have gone through 17 jaspers. the controllers run on lithium batteries, and will wear out by 2040 if you misuse them, and they WARN you when they're running low, so u can plug it in and keep playing as if it were a wired controller.

The 360 has an unusually high failure rate, it's far more likely that the 360 is being stressed far too hard...not that the 360 is being held back.

By that reasoning, the PS3 is "Being Held Back", and when we see PS3's failing all over the place, then we know it's being stressed to hard.

Is the 360's power brick really all that big? I haven't noticed all that much because it is hidden behind my consoles. On the other hand the PS3 itself is about the size of a bread box. It's a fair trade off.

LOL. The Dual Shock design is more than 10 years old.

Wifi is crap. It's "advantage" is purely cosmetic.

Or maybe the 360 overheats because it is the most played console?? And MS used cheap solder :P Seriously, TCs logic is crazy. RROD was prominent in 2005-2007 right. well we all know the PS3 didnt have all the great games it has now back then, so how was the 360 "struggling" to keep pace with PS3 when during that time most games looked better on 360??

Why dont you google 360 power brick and search for pictures for an idea?

Wifi is more than cosmetic, its also convenient, and if i had a ethernet cable running trough the living room my dog would prolly do something disasterous...

Sigh. I know how big the power brick is. Ok, let me spell it out for you: It's HIDDEN behind my TV. WHO GIVES A CRAP.

"if i had a ethernet cable running trough the living room my dog would prolly do something disasterous..."

Again, Sigh.Did it ever occur to you that maybe you could, you know, NOT run the cable in an area where it would be in someone's way? You only need a staple gun and a long enough cable. How do you run your speaker wire?

Xbox360 has more capabilities of having better Graphics than PS3? Are you drunk or just born stupid? What part of PS3 having a 10% faster GPU, 3 times as powerful 8 core CPU known as the super cell (Not a myth), 3200mhz , 4,5 times faster RAM, more flexible ram, PS3 having 3.2 times the amount of calculations per second, and The PS3 doubling the amount of performance with 2 TeraFlops. In short: PS3 craps over 360's garbage hardware. Playstation3 is purely the much MUCH more powerful and overly superior console. Killzone2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted ... Those are just the begining, and both KZ2 and MGS4 smash Resident Evil5 graphics wise. And the "omg xbox has so much power it breaks it's self". I lol'd @ that pure bullcrap. The PS3 offers 3 times the amount of power and it handles such power perfectly. 0.003% chance of failure, comapred to 360's 37% fail rate, so yeah I think PS3 once again wins this discussion (As always, what did you expect?)okini

Unfortunately, all of these amazing advantages you mention the PS3 has over the 360 means nothing, unless Sony can start selling a crap-ton of more units, which will require an adequate price-drop, with a wider selection of epic exclusives.

1. the gpu in the 360 is a better, and faster gpu :fact: 2.3 times more powerful cpu in your mind only in reality the benefits of the cell are next to nothing *its not 8 cores its 7 spes* 3.the ram is not more flexable it is infact much less flexable then the ram in the 360. 4. you sure got alot of 3.2's in your post. 5.0.003% failure rate lol okay man.

Europe and Japan loyalty to Sony products is holding the Xbox brand back.
