Xbox 720 in 2012.

This is only half true why yes the first thought of late 2010 or 2011 will not happen. This will though Fall launch 2012 Xbox 720. This will mean the 360 would have a 7 year lifespan and that is a good run. And this also means this will give the 360 from current another 3 1/2 years this is perfect and MS will launch the 720 in fall 2012.

So this is only about half true but it does have some merit.

As for PS4 they can only launch as early as 2014 they need to make some profit after the HUGE losses on PS3. So in tern this means Sony will loose again next gen also.

If true, that'll be good, we can wait.

Your link makes no claims or conjectures about the release time frames of either the PS4 or next Xbox systems, so where are you pulling 2010-2012?

7 years is so perfect for MS that is the real sweet spot it gives them several years of profit from the 360 as they already made some profit this year. And 7 years put it right at the border line for everyone ready for better graphics.

As for Sony they are pretty much ****** they most likely will not begin to see profits until 2012 on the current PS3. This all makes perfect sense here people I think this is a fairly accurate assumption on things.

Yes for sure they look at the money lost but trust me MS is happy with the whoopingf they have handed Sony so far. And when you know things about buisness they know in the long run they have Sony beat and it's all up hill and gravy now.

And MS was very smart from launch even sayin Wii 360 becuase they new the lower 249.00 Wii would most likey beat them but they also new that they had a rea chance to hurt Sony and that they have done and done so very well.

So now with Project Natal and once again MS genuis marleting they will bring Natal to the mainstream and make it a standard so when 720 launches in late 2012 it will come with built in Natal and everyone will want it including most casuels.

A custome GPU in the 720 will be a HUGE leap I mean look at Crysis already now. Imagine 3/4 years from now it will be HUGE for sure.

This. honestly, Microsoft and Sony need to come up with more creative names. At least Nintendo has the guts and creativity to make new names for their consoles (well, at least for the Wii).

Even if Microsoft continues with the Xbox name, it will most likely be called 1080.

At first I did also. And even if they still do I'd be a day one launch buyer for sure. But now I'm cool with a 2012 it gives developers sometime to realy be creative and find ways to do some nifty tricks with the systems.

you see 360 and PS3 keep selling in 2011, and BAM! HD Wii with PS3 or 360 level hardware, maybe better, and then nintendo finally can get the multiplats, and if they market it half as well as the first wii, it will win any gen its in. (sales-wise)

but then when nintendo makes a new console (coz they can increase the hardware without hurting costs, they can make a 360 level console in 2010 or 2012, it will be insanely profitable, and it will be new to all consumers as they won't know its still last gen )

then does MS and Sony compete with Ninty's new console? make their own new ones? do they make it a small ugrade like GCN to Wii , or huge one like PS2 to PS3?

That is just it though, they only made profit during those quarters but have not recoup their loses in total. Which doesn't even matter once the quarter has come and gone.

6 years better warrant a huge jump. The jump from xbox to 360 was huge in just 4 years, the difference with 6 years better be even more huge than the first huge.

I can guarantee you it won't be called the "Xbox 720". The idea behind the "360" name is that the console revolves around what the owner likes (like a circle), hence 360 (as in 360 degrees). Either way, I'm still happy with this generation to keep going. I'm loving all the consoles and my PC games, as always.

This. The fact that xbox has a good installed base now means they don't have to rush out with something. Sony invested heavily in ps3 so they won't be pushing something new out anytime soon. Wii prints money, so there's no reason for nintendo to come out with anything different, maybe a wii hd, but that's it for a while. There's just no real incentive or demand right now to release new consoles. Just look at the nintendo ds, nintendo said they could have released a new handheld, but there was no demand for it, so they scrapped those plans.

Cbf reading the link. I have no idea what the next M$ console will be like, as long as the nextbox doesn't have a bigger number on the end of 'xbox' then I'm fine. I see nothing wrong with the Playstation names. Really, it's easy to understand and creates an obvious timeline. PS4 is fine for me. And the rumoured WiiHD is cool with me. If it's going to be a Wii with up to date graphics, then why not? It works. I would have to kill myself is an Xbox720 was released...

But yeah, I'm excited for next gen, even though we're maybe not even half-way through this one...
