[QUOTE="Hanass"]

[QUOTE="scorch-62"] I still find it humorous when I hear the "because when you see it, you turn 360 degrees and walk away" excuse. :lol:Trmpt

That makes zero sense at all... When you turn 360 degrees you are still facing the same direction.

Sure it does, they turn 180 and realize how great the 360 is then do another 180 and buy the system and then walk away. :D

That's a 540...

Pfffft, not if they barge through the counter at which they bought it. Who turns around after they buy something these days.

This is only half true why yes the first thought of late 2010 or 2011 will not happen. This will though Fall launch 2012 Xbox 720. This will mean the 360 would have a 7 year lifespan and that is a good run. And this also means this will give the 360 from current another 3 1/2 years this is perfect and MS will launch the 720 in fall 2012.

So this is only about half true but it does have some merit.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-10293805-17.html

As for PS4 they can only launch as early as 2014 they need to make some profit after the HUGE losses on PS3. So in tern this means Sony will loose again next gen also.

Pimp_Dog09
hyge losses, huge profits from games..that 1.....2 sony makes money of blu ray movies, tvs, cameras, camcorders, laptops etc etc...so hyge loss from ps3...doesnt mean anything,,,ps3 will be a 10 year plan, but new gen concoles will be released same time this time....2012 more or less...

I highly doubt there will even be a PS4. After the beating Sony has taken with the PS3 (and no indication that it'll get any better) coupled with the losses they've posted from ALL their divisions, not just gaming, they'd be stupid to continue down this path.

Right now there's too many factors for MS, and they are calling Natal their next gen anyways, so I doubt they will come out with the next xbox in 2012, besides devs don't want the technology to be too much higher because the production costs will go waaay up, which would probably mean games would be more expensive...

You could argue that new development tools will counter the cost though, making next gen games easier to produce.

No one PLANS on dropping out. Sega didn't. It just turns out that they have to due to their own missteps.

I'm tired of buying so many systems anyway. Besides that, I think the PS3 and Xbox 360 motion controls will get atleast some interesting games, and graphics are already extremely good anyway. I'd be happy with getting a new system by about 2013 or 2014,preferrably compatible with a 3DTV to help make it a bigger step up.

If that is true, I'm actually fine with that because I love my 360 and I hope they continue to support it for a long time. Although I'm afraid mine won't last that long, especially if the RROD is only covered for 3 years.I know I'll probably get a new Xbox 720,or whatever it's gonna be called, at launch. As far as Sony losing the next console war, I wouldn't be so sure yet. There have been certain consoles to launch first and then end up at the bottom of the pile ie. Dreamcast, Saturn, etc.., heck , this console war isn't over yet.I'm glad to see the success that the 360 is having, especiallybeing the onlyconsole from America to make it since the Atari, but Sony is a big powerhouse company that surely isn't going to give up on its pride and joy, so I think the console wars are far from over, especially if Microsoftplans on going another 3 years before their next entry.

About 2011 according to this article

http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6656810.html

Also, here's an interesting article about 3DTVs

http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2006/08/71627

"One nearly ready-made source of content is modern video games, which actually generate three-dimensional objects internally, then flatten the images into 2-D representations for standard monitors. Philips has developed hardware and software that can extract the original depth information from the game engine and use it to create 3-D images on a WOWvx display."

That sounds cool as hell, I wonder if you need to good eyesight in both eyes for this to work though because my left eye is terrible. As far as using it in gaming in 2012, assuming thats when next gen starts, the article said that they expect only 10% of households to own a 3DTV. I wonder if that is enough percentage for them to utilize it. What was the percentage of households with HDTVs back in 2005? If it was close to 10% then I can totally see it happening with 3DTV in 2012.

The percentage of US households with HDTV's in 2004 was 7%. Link. That was enough for MS to go with an HD console in 2005, they apperently saw HDTV kicking in.

So I can totally see next gen consoles using 3DTV if what the previous article said is true when it said about 10% of households will own one.

7 years is so perfect for MS that is the real sweet spot it gives them several years of profit from the 360 as they already made some profit this year. And 7 years put it right at the border line for everyone ready for better graphics.

As for Sony they are pretty much ****** they most likely will not begin to see profits until 2012 on the current PS3. This all makes perfect sense here people I think this is a fairly accurate assumption on things.

Pimp_Dog09

Except that MS has lost over a billion dollars on the 360 (and industry rumors indicate potentially a lot more), and has yet to recoop even a small portion of that.

Yes for sure they look at the money lost but trust me MS is happy with the whoopingf they have handed Sony so far. And when you know things about buisness they know in the long run they have Sony beat and it's all up hill and gravy now.

And MS was very smart from launch even sayin Wii 360 becuase they new the lower 249.00 Wii would most likey beat them but they also new that they had a rea chance to hurt Sony and that they have done and done so very well.

So now with Project Natal and once again MS genuis marleting they will bring Natal to the mainstream and make it a standard so when 720 launches in late 2012 it will come with built in Natal and everyone will want it including most casuels.

I see where you are going, but you are forgetting one major implication of the next console from Microsoft.

It's a little something called the third console curse.

It had nintendo suffer with the Nintendo 64

And Sony suffered with the PS3.

Let's see how the third console curse will (if?) play out for Microsoft.

I believe nintendo was also doing pretty bad starting with their third console, and didn't gain any real sucess until the 5th console. (The Wii)

May history repeat itself?

I don't think it's quite that simple for Sony. They've lost money on the PS3 (whereas Ninty actually made a profit on both the N64 and GC) and are losing money in all their divisions. They'd be stupid to continue funding their gaming division.
