After reading TC, it was almost felt like PS3 games were 6 times better than ps3 ones... No biggy this gen, next gen probably not, but looks like we are going for all digital anyway, exect "BIG" hard drives for next consoles ;)
This topic is locked from further discussion.
IMO, Xbox has already lost... HDDVD is dead, and therefor, there will be no room for next gen games. (Forget consoles, its too early to release another console)
The_EdgE999
Try Blu-Ray. Microsoft will just have to pay royalties to the Blu-Ray Association, unless they join.
Seriously, that wasn't too hard.
For this gen, they will just go to multiple disks. It's never been a problem until now.
[QUOTE="ShadowriverUB"]
I think Sony sould allow to use DVDs for game, same as on PS2 they allowed to use CDs... some PS3 games fits on DVD9
Some PS3 games fit on DVD9, like all the multiplat game would fit on DVD9, so would all the exclusive PS3 games. And don't believe the crap about PS3 games taken up 50gigs, most games would be hitting 15 to 20 gigs and that can be compressed on to DVD9Example I've installed some games on my 360 HDD you will not believe how small some games are
boarderlands 3.3 gigs
Assassins Creed 2 5.2 gigs
Far Cry 2 3.6 gigs
The orange box 3.9 gigs
Mass Effect 6.8 gigs
and those are all massive games with awesome graphics
Those arent all the info off the discs  , The thing about Bluray is that the devs dont have to compress, lower quality, cuts things out just to make it fit on a 8.5 Gb disc, Many Pc games are beyond DvD size discs now, and they have to do a couple of things one is to compress the data then extract it (and no the 360 cant do this), Ive seen 8.5 Gb game off disc turn into 15Gb when uncompressed and installed, Or multiple disc installs. Here's one for you Dragon Age origins is a 20 gig game compressed down to 6.4 gigs on 360Thats because they had pre rendered video (cut scenes). But anyway, Sony was smart in going to Bluray, and allowing upgradable hdd. MS will have to do two things in their next console , one is to move to Bluray and admit defeat, or be dumb and stay with DVD and multiple discs and "install the games" o wait that sounds alot like a Pc thing, no more simple pop it in and go , or go to digital distribution which will have alot of drawbacks. Such as problems with internet speed/download limits or no internet at all. Using alot of hdd space to hold those games, so hdd space will have to be large to install those games but cant be 500gb but more because the poor folk will have to end up having to uninstall games to fit the new games etc. The Gamestop will take a beating from this DD because those games will be tied to an account so no resale. They need to go back to game cartridges again because memory advances that have been made since then would be better the discs. Faster load and read times, dont have to worry about disc scratches, or dvd/bluray drive dying. And memory size can go beyond bluray too.Who here wouldnt mind a half sized N64 sized cartridges that hold 256gb of a game or multiple games? i'm pretty sure a Hard drive would be better and cheaper,..[QUOTE="wizardwd"]

you install full games on your 360 hdd not part of the game, you do realize that games can be compressed down from 20 gigs to fit on DVD9[QUOTE="Supabul"][QUOTE="04dcarraher"] Those arent all the info off the discs  , The thing about Bluray is that the devs dont have to compress, lower quality, cuts things out just to make it fit on a 8.5 Gb disc, Many Pc games are beyond DvD size discs now, and they have to do a couple of things one is to compress the data then extract it (and no the 360 cant do this), Ive seen 8.5 Gb game off disc turn into 15Gb when uncompressed and installed, Or multiple disc installs.04dcarraher
Yes I know a 20gb file/data can be compressed to fit on a dvd 9 but, LoL, 360 game thats 6-8.5 gb that installs to 3 gb I doubt that because do you know how much processing power is needed to compress or uncompress that about of info on the fly? What the 360 or PS3 mostly does is install the main game engine and some of the big data files onto the hdd for faster loading thats it , Plus you dont have to install every 360 to play it so that 8.5 gb game is 8.5 gb not 20gb.
you really think ever game on 360 is 8.5 gigs, and you install to Hdd to make the 360 quiet thats all I doWell, pretty darn close ME is 7.4 Gb , Fallout 3 is 6.7 gb , GTA IV is 7.5 gb, Batman AA is 7.5 Gb , FNR 4 is 7.5 Gb enough said. The only thing in that post I don't see happening is the 360 lasting longer than the PS3.Really? I highly doubt that the PS3 will last 10 years for Sony, because of the way that they're losing money off of their division & that the PS3 isn't very popular like the PS1 & the PS2 are. They're coming up at a $5 Billion loss already, & they can't continue to lose money off of their division forever. If your precious PS3 doesn't turn profitable within the next year, chances are, it'll become the next Dreamcast & the first X-Box, in which both Sega & Microsoft had to cut support from because they kept losing money off of them & that their consoles weren't profitable enough.
Also, just because they announced a 10 year plan, doesn't mean that they won't come out with another console within 2-3 years. Sony announced a 10 year plan within the PS2, because it was very popular, yet they came out with the PS3 3 years ago.
I sort of agree with you on this one. WHile Microsoft is doing fine with what they have now, Sony does have the upper hand with its storage media on Blu ray.It really hasn't been a issue so far, and I don't think it will until the next console cycle for M$, which I'm pretty sure they'll have some sort of huge media format available.New console seems the most likely solution.

you notice all you listed either multiplat or 360 only games? also, what system are those sizes for? pc/ps3/360?
the thing is you can still compress a game from 15 gigs down to 8 or 9, but you definitely lose some of the clarity from uncompressed games. right now its not really an issue, but in the future when very large flatscreens become the norm games are going to have to increase their definition to remain "graphically viable"

You really think they would release a new console already? They run the risk of deflating their market! If I hand you two apples. And you start eating one, then I hand you another apple, what will happen? Either you will drop a perfectly good apple in favor of the new one, or you will let the new apple fall, because you already have a perfectly good apple in your hand.
Besides, I see no advantage they can put into a new system that PS3 doesnt already have. Perhaps a new processor. They would HAVE to go bluray, and they would HAVE to go laptop HDD or SSD. And now your left with basically a PS3 in an Xbox casing.
And will they revive Halo? Seriously? Halo 4? already? or some other creative spinoff of it? Halo HBDSD? who knows!
Edit: No I already know the PS3 is a more advanced system, I'm wondering what MS is planning on doing about it..

M$claims that the 360 will last until 2015 with the release of Natal aka eyetoy 2, but I don't see how when games just keep getting longer and longer. Soon they'll have 4 disc games.
The 360 is a last gen system, it should have been released along with the PS2 and Gamecube. Maybe when they release their next system they might think outside the box a little more and make their system a little more technologically advanced.
MS will probably lower the royalty fees for the extra discs or maybe force games to be installed into a HDD like PC games.[QUOTE="Supabul"][QUOTE="04dcarraher"]Your such a dope, the games are full, YES FULL SIZED GAMES not partially installed games, thats the size they are on disc too, I don't know why you think the games are all the same size,My god , the discs have this amount of data on them, not the partly installed games on the hdd which will br smaller. For gods sake man, the games are fully installed on the 360 and played directly form your HDD, you just put the disc in for authentication. Games come in all different size, and can be from 1 gig to 8, and it they get bigger they come on another disc,

"According to GAf, CAG, and a few other sources, the new XBox360 dashboard beta version actually dereases the size of game installs on the HDD. NOw, if this is due to compression, or due to the fact that less files are installed, we are unsure at this point. Also you will have to delete the game and reinstall it to get the better size. As for if it runs at the same speed, we have yet to have a concrete answer on that. Here are some of the early numbers, though:
Call of Duty 4 0.2gb smaller, Call of Duty: WAW 0.1gb smaller,Gears of War 2 0.4gb smaller, Halo 3 0.6gb smaller, Battlefield: BC 1.6gb smaller, SFIV 0.4gb smaller, and Left 4 Dead 1.3gb smaller.
Rumor mill for now, but looks pretty solid. *Update: Lord Flux tells us this is confirmed, and any games installed before the update will have to be reinstalled after the update to work properly. At least, in the beta dashboard it works that way. No telling if it will be changed for retail or not. It seems to us though that this means it now uses compression. If it was just a matter of less files, then the old installs would be usable."

[QUOTE="04dcarraher"]Ok, then, answer me this how can a say a 7gb game on a dvd turns into a half the size installed??? If you say it compresses the data then your wrong because it takes longer to uncompress the data then to read the data then use to read the data off the disc. But you prove my point that they are partial installs when a 6 gb game is installed turns into only 3 gb or less. According to GAf, CAG, and a few other sources, the new XBox360 dashboard beta version actually dereases the size of game installs on the HDD.
If it was just a matter of less files, then the old installs would be usable.GamerReport

Thats small compression compared to the 3 gb installs that the other guy is saying to have with games double that size.
[QUOTE="04dcarraher"]Listen, you said borderlands is 3.3 Gb on hdd right or do mean the size of the game on the dvd? Ethier way your wrong because Bordersland on the 360 dvd is 6.5 Gb (thats the size of the game/data on a disc that can hold upto 8.5 gb) Borderlands is 3.3gigs on the 360 disc, on the PC its 6.5, So this is why we've been having this useless debate. 6.5 would fit on a 360 disc so why would the dev compress the file down to 3.3, I don't know they felt like it. But once again Full games are installed on 360 HDD[QUOTE="Supabul"] AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, please help me make him understand, will someone else help me. A 7gig game on a DVD will be 7gigs on HDD, just like a 3,4,5,6,7,8 gig game will be the same, where did you get the assumption that a 7 gig game will be cut in half installedSupabul
Go to any torrent site and look at the 360 game disc sizes and even look at borderlands and you will see the truth, if the game was 3.3 gb they would have not put the game on a dvd 9(8.5gb)(dual layer disc) they would have just had it on a standard 4.7 gb dvd.

No I'm fed up with this now, maybe we'll meet again and argue about game size's, compression and other mysterys about the size's of games when installed to the 360.
PS. There Full Size games on the 360 HDD goddammit

Small compression on full install vs a partial install, Heck even my copy of FNR 4 installed on my xbox is no where near half game's size(like 4gb with custom fighters, music etc) but the game on the dvd is 7gb. Its partial installs on most of the games. And if borderlands is only 3.3 gb its not the whole game (all the data off the disc) its about half of it. Trust me alot of the data still is left on the disc after install. And if compression was that small afterwards , you would have to wait 2x longer for something to load compared to just reading off the dvd,[QUOTE="Supabul"]

MAX capacity on the X360's dvd is only 6.8GB of gamedata because of some additional MS software. All games that use one disc does not exceed 7GB.Please Log In to post.
