Safe to say microsoft isnt as rich as the guy said. One thing though, where is Sony's 2011 earnings?
AdmiralBison
How does losing money in their gaming division prove they're not rich?
They're one of the richest companies in the world and this is just pocket change to them.
This proves the thread title. MS can afford to dump as much money into the console race as they want until eventually they're on top for good.
You spend money to make money. Brun cash make good deals, offers, promotions, secure timed exclusives, dlc, marketing, know you markets tastes- RPGs, FPS, MS didn't get the way they are just by burning cash mindlessly. your also missing one important point. Gamers didn't get the Xbox360 because MS is rich. Have a guess why they bought it.Because MS paid top dollar for R&D, promotion, timed exclusives, online, dlc, and the loyalty of third parties? You spend money to make money. How else do you run a business? It's not a charity. You compete , make better deals, offers and don't make it out as if all third parties are in MS's pockets. Otherwise you wouldn't see as much third party support on the PS3. And you didnt answer my other question. Don't be scared to say it. We know that it invalidates your whole premise why Xbox gamers support MS.[QUOTE="AdmiralBison"][QUOTE="abonsabo"]WTH?

[QUOTE="LOXO7"]Microsoft has lost billions on both of their consoles. They need to go 100% casual or exit the market. Hardcore gamers are not worth their money.@ActionRemix Funny that you count all of Nintendo, when you don't the others. Oh, you were just talking about the gaming part, while this thread was talking about entire company part. My mistake :? I don't mind MS taking over because it would be a better reason to quit, but my reason works fine too.

MS is now making a profit and has made huge huge gains in market share which is what they wanted. They had the financial grunt to make it happen at the right time. Why would MS need to 100% anything?
They care about the bigger picture which is the market share.
The problem with the spread sheet, is if you take it at face value like an accountant, that means taking everything out of context.
MS didn't have the luxury of slow learning with the first Xbox, but they saw the market potential so yeah they where prepared for huge losses. They certainly didn't expect to win the gen, that would have been unrealistic.
This gen they rushed the 360 to market and as a result, there were hardware failure problems, which on top of everything else cost them big. But they did it to capitalise of a long list of Sonys mistakes. They finally have that 50/50 market share with Sony they dreamed of, and they did it without Japan. Now MS is a long term player, they even relegated Japan into more or less 3rd place in terms of importance because they introduced a huge western gaming element to consoles as Japan was shunning them.
Nintendo- Dominated with their first and then second console
Sony- Dominated with their first and then second console
Microsoft-....might do with their third console what the other two did with their firsts
The PSN hacking will cost them millions, not billions. The Vita will cost them several hundred million dollars, but they'll probably still end up with about a billion dollars of profit at the end of the year. For the record, I'm a 100% Nintendo fanboy who happened to buy a PS3 last year.Sony is losing billions as a whole and have been for years.[QUOTE="ActionRemix"][QUOTE="xhawk27"]I don't get how you think the WiiU is going to be more powerful than the next Xbox but whatever PS3 fanboy! ;)Also Sony is going to have a big loss for 2011 because of the PSN hacking and RnD for the Vita.abonsabo
They're on very shaky legs right now.
thats due to there tv division NOT GAMING sony pictures are saving them and with movies like men in black 3 amazing spiderman and ghost busters 3 and more sony is gonna make billions of them
They have to take a loss once the next gen starts. If they loss lead and produce high-powered hardcore console they're going right back in the red for years to come. They know better, though. Their next console is going to be a Wii60 - Low powered, cheap, and Kinect-focussed.MS is now making a profit and has made huge huge gains in market share which is what they wanted. Not for the whole year. I think it was just for a quarter. I believe they'll be at a loss this year, though.OMFG! Nintendo is printing money.
Still, weren't they at a lost for the last year?

[QUOTE="verbtex"]The PS3 is more likely to pass up the 360 than the 360 is to pass up the Wii. I think this generation will be over before the Xbox will outsell the Wii. I though the gap between the PS3 and 360 was a little ovrer a couple million at this point. Between the Wii and the 360 is about a 30 million difference..right?

According to vgchartz...
Vgchartz has been proven to be unreliable in the past, but I guess that graphic can be used to "prove" my point.
Why is 67.8% DS market share the same length as 44.2% wii market share?
Why is 71.3 million PSP shorter than 58.7M Xbox360s and 56.1M PS3s?
What e'ffing scale are those bars drawn to???
While this thread is absurd, I don't understand how people are looking at that chart as ownage? If anything it proves this guys point, at least the deep pockets of Microsoft and how they are willing to take big loses to win.
However, I support Microsoft and the 360 because I believe it is the best console out of the three. I will quickly dump them if next gen is Kinect and garbage games to go with it. Brand loyalty != bend over and take it. Much like the cows have been doing for years now.
Next gen MS system = Casual mass market confirmed. (By me first)

If you think either the next Xbox or the next Playstation will not be aimed for a more casual audience and will be graphical powerhouses, you are in for a rude awakening...

Nice chart, i did not knwo Microsoft was so much more profitable than Sony the last few years
Xbox 360 is a real killer as it seems
@ActionRemix:
Old chart is old. The losses off of the original Xbox must be sunk costs by now.
Plus haven't you done that before in this thread where you kept rambling on & on about it when multiple posters there told you otherwise (It all starts on Page 3 of that thread)?
Seriously, dude. Just give it up.

No way man...
