The other means don't have to be illegal (so mods please do not suspend me for promoting illegal activity, because that's not what I'm talking about). If I have an old copy of Super Metroid for my SNES, why not fire the ol' beasty up and save $8? Or borrow my friend's copy? Point is, there are alternatives that don't cost money, and Nintendo doesn't give any reason not to use them other that VC being convinient. If they at least added prettier visuals or leaderboards or online multiplayer, I'd have a reason to play it over the original version. Timstuff
Thing is... I don't own a copy of Super Metroid or know anyone with one (within reasonable means). So I am "stuck" paying $8 for it on the VC. I would much rather get it for the SNES, but with the VC, I don't need to drag out my SNES when I want to play it (or pay over $20 for a copy that may or may not work properly and have save problems (which I have had in the past with other cart games)). I just turn on my Wii and click on SM on the main menu.
Those "alternatives" that you speak of are not available to everyone, which is one reason why the VC is such a good thing. ;)
[QUOTE="Pro_wrestler"]definately killer insinctOk lets settle this. Which ever one gets these games first.. wins.
Killer Instinct
Killer Instinct Gold

*DROOLS* c...c..c...c..combo breaker!!!!!!!!!!!! ULTRA, ULTRA, ULTRA, ULTRA PWNAGE! :D
The VC is superior but it is still untapped. As of yet we have still to see any original games that have been developed for it, but once that part of the service is running smoothly then XBLA simply won't be able to match it IMO.
Nintendos back catalouge, which contains the vast majority of many of the greates games from the 8/16/32 bit eras. Sega, Hudson, NEC and more to come too. Plus all the original games that are coming soon.
I just don't think XBLA will be able to compete once the full VC service is in full swing...
Just so you people know, VC will never have original content... However with in the next few months you'll be able download original content on your Wii, it'll just be available to you by a different service.Luigi_Vincetana
Yeah, but then it wouldn't be fair to compare the XBLA service to just the VC part of Nintendo's service. If we are going to compare one service that offers retro games and new downloadable only games then we have to do the same for the other, even if it splits those services into two slightly different channels...

Obviously in the future comparison would be made between both systems online market places in there entirety but I was just pointing that out to people who were saying that VC will eventually get original content.[QUOTE="freeload"][QUOTE="Luigi_Vincetana"]Just so you people know, VC will never have original content... Cool cool.
[QUOTE="AdrianWerner"]you forgot to realize I wrote "even without emus", I mean fully legal downloadable games, not roms. foxhound_fox
No problem. But PC is seriously kicking ass in downloadables. Even in olds. Gametap already has 900 games. And recently AMiga and Vulcan annouced they will start selling Amiga games for 5$ each. that's awesome library of 2000 games
[QUOTE="Timstuff"]Wii VC is about as bare-bones as one could imagine in terms of enhancements to the games. At least XBLA gives you a reason to buy the games again rather than using other means to play them for free.foxhound_fox
Which ever one comes out will the XMEN Arcade game without messing it up first is the winner in my book?
comeon 360 don't screw up this classic...
Your post is extremely biased. If it weren't, you'd have spent more time posting the advantages of all the games on the VC.
Even without all of the enhancements, the VC is still better because of its wider variety of games, and its amazing cla.ssics that the XBLA can never achieve. Nintendo's masterpieces are the one thing that no company can ever take away from them. Frankly, OoT alone tops all of those VC games, and if you've never played it before then that is even better that you'd be able to get such an amazing experience for $10 over the internet.
By the way, Castlevania isn't even a platformer it's an action RPG, and it couldn't even get close to a hundred hours of gameplay. Thirty hours of gameplay if its lucky.

i know i made it like that, i like XBLA more
XBLA is a bit better now, but it also suffers from small ammount of original content, 95% games are ports. Altough I'm talking from pcgamer perspective, so no wonder XBLA seems almost useless for meAdrianWernerwell if ur a pc gamer u can get every games thats on the vc plus ones ***[an gets and ones that aint out yet on vc
i gotta go with xla b/c it offers online and other stuff while the vc offers nothing new or something i cant get for free
Even though the old games from the VC are better than all of the XBLA, im going to go with XBLA
New Games+Old classics=Ownage
However, Microsoft should release a XBLA controller, the 360 controller isnt always the best choice
They seem similar but its really hard to compare them since they really offer far different things. I couldn't really say which is best overall.
I'd say I personally prefer XBLA. Any games the VC has to offer I've already had my shot at growing up with video games, and quite honestly these days many companies are pumping out collections of all their old content, I'm kind of tired of having my childhood games repackaged and resold to me yet again. I'd rather be playing the fresh content or arcade releases offered on XBLA. Yet for others the VC offers a fantastic, huge (and ever-growing) back catalog of classic gaming to explore.
