"Between 8am and 10pm you won't be able to play against your friends over Xbox live.
However this downtime is not a sign that there will be a dashboard update as Major Nelson has stated on his blog that the reason for the downtime is so microsoft can do some "back end" work which was supposed to take place a few months ago."

LOL! Yeah right, more like patching up the holes the hackers left you.

basic logic would assume they're updating because of hackers... this needed a thread?

I think everyone will agree with me when I say this - a day of not being able to play online is a hell of a lot better than having your account hacked and your hard earned funds used Live points.

Good Job MS, for being so quick on the fix! It takes a great software company to be able to handle being hacked! Way to prepare! How many days have gone by since the hack?

you know why PCs gets hacked more then macs? because 98% of computer useres run windows. why target a system that isnt popular, you have less to gain. Im sure if PSN was popular and had many people using it, it would be hacked too. and omg, i might die becasue i cant play XBL for a day. comon atleast they are fixing the problem. sony should try that with the PS3.

Yes lose customers by telling them hackers have taken over. That's a great idea . Obviously they cover it up to keep people to their service and then fix the problem in one day. Man you are thick KeyWii.

It's funny that you have to constantly make threads trying to take down the 360. You getting bored with your PS3? Angry about your purchase? Take your jealousy somewhere else. Pathetic...

Who knows really. The "back end" work Nelson spoke of could have even been stricter controls on account access. They could have even seen this coming and are trying to rectify it now - at a time too late unfortunately.

Isn't them fixing (baning) people that hack a good thing? Who cares what they call it as long as it gets fixed...

What was even the point of this topic? What, they're gonna come out and say "Yeah, we got hacked by some punks, so we're patchin it up." Huh? :? This is business 101. If this had happened to the PS3, you wouldn't have mentioned a single thing about this. Just when I thought fanboys couldn't get any worse...

You seriously try way to hard for ownage...especially when most of the time it's self-ownage not to forget how your forgeting about all the bad news that's happened to ps3 (DMC4, Ace Combat 6, launch disaster, Motorflop, etc, etc, etc, etc) so instead your trying to cover it and try to make people forget about it with this and act this this is much worse. And I seriously doubt xbl was hacked have you never heard of people giving away account info? And if it's true that **** are hacking into xbl it's really not that big of deal xbl gets hacked for the first time in about year and your thinking it's the biggest ownage ever when really what's happened to the ps3 is about 5 times as much. Desperate attemp.

It's down for a few hours. Microsoft third party confirmed.
