I do. But be prepared for the stampede. BTW, how is the Show? I may get it this year. Really good? or meh?dhjohns
I think Gamespot is gonna give it a 9.0. It deserves it. IGN was off with 8.7.

Great! I like the "career" mode or w/e it is called that I have been reading about. Game looks neat, just don't know if i have time for a baseball game. I have bought three games, just this week. :(

games are long, but if you love baseball, you are in total bliss. This is a great great game, very realistic, and pitching is so much fun. I played two full games and both games were fun. Eye candy galore.

He didn't say it was horrible or a massive issue. He just said the ability to just press the guide button and shoot anyone a message on xbox live, regardless of what they're doing, is taken for granted.
Today Im playing a great game called MLB "THE SHOW" and a friend sends me a message over PSN. So im like ok let me see if I can find this message without losing my game, well I couldnt do it, and I had to call my friend on the phone. I know LIVE that stuff is kinda taken for granted. I rather pay the fee, rather than to have to do a work around because the PSN programming cant get past that simple task. Does anyone hear me?Coredog777
Couldn't you have saved the game and then checked the message?

I thought of that, but didnt want to lose the game so I was a bit hesisitant. Its not just that, the whole live setup is so much better and userfriendly. Personally I dont mind the fee.

I feel your pain. Live is definitely worth the money to me. I probably won't even play MLB The Show online if I do get the game. So far the only thing I've played on PSN is Motorstorm.

Uumm.. STEAM isn't on the PS3 or XBox 360, so what good is it them? MLB The Show isn't on the PC either.

Buuuut, can you not chat with friends unless you pay $50????
And if you can't, that means that the $50 is wirth something. But what will it be worth when in-game XMB hits PS3?

Main point was if I'm going to be paying money for online service, the main thing I want first and the most are servers. The features takes a back seat to that. Not a big deal to me though, people like them and feel they are worth it, so meh.

I was a 360 owner for more then 2 years, but after it died on me (again) this time from a disk drive failure, and destoryed my disk 4 of Lost Odyessy in the process, i sold everything and bought a PS3. As for the topic.
I was on Live since back in the Xbox 1 days, and now I own a PS3.
As is right now, Live is completly superior to PSN in every way. The games, the marketplace, tv shows, movies, freindslists, msn messanger, in game voice chat with people on the dash-board or playing different games, video chat, xbla.... Live just pwns PSN right now.
But, its early in PSN's lifespan, and Live has been around for over 5 years, so PSN has room to improve.
I do like the PS3 web browser though.
I believe there is probably more to XBL than a lot people think. Matchmaking and cross-game communications, for example, are not done on a P2P network. The data being sent during gameplay is what is done on P2P. Everything else is on dedicated servers. There is a lot of "everything else" outside of game data. Stat tracking for example (game specific and achievements). Matchmaking is also done on dedicated servers before dumping everyone that was placed into a P2P connection. XBL wide communications (getting notifications about who is online regardless of what you are doing). The XBL service is ALWAYS connected when a 360 is on if the user wants it to be. This means I can be watching a movie and get a message or game invite from people. The 360 is NOT running on P2P when this is happening.
Regardless of this, running servers costs money. Just because "enthusiasts" pay to keep the PC servers running, for example, does not make them free. This just means a few people are paying to play because someone has to foot the bill. You would be surprised how much playing PC games online actually costs if you were sent a bill for your usage time.
Take all of the individual PC game servers and drop a cross-game infrustructure on it and you would have what XBL also includes. That would cost quite a bit to do. Steam and XBL are quite different. Steam is a download service with a messenging service tacked on. Xfire is way better. Neither of these require any kind of data tracking on the server side.

And although PSN's service does the same thing, paying $50 to MS makes sense? The only thing you showed that differed was the achievements. Home will have accomplishments.

 OK. I am not a champion of XBL. I use both XBL and PSN. Do I wish XBL was free? Of course. Do I see a stark difference in PSN and XBL? Of course. If and when (Sony and MS promise a lot, I have learned to wait) XMB comes to PS3, it should be awesome. But that isn't the only feature PSN is lacking. PSN has a ways to go to reach the level of XBL. When it does lets have this discussion again. I enjoy the community aspect of XBL more than PSN. There is value there, imo. Also, people think that PSN will evolve and XBL will remain stagnant. Not a good assumption, imo. Software is not Sony's forte, like hardware (obviously) is not MS's forte. Sony needs some more time to get PSN up to speed.

I disagree. Sony has an in-game XMB in the works, due out this summer. After that, what is going to be the excuse that Xbox Live is "worth the money". It's so stupid to me. At the very freaking least, MS should have let you be able to play online no matter what, and if you want to pay for the in-game dashboard and little bells and whistles, you can. But they dont do that - they simply make you pay for online gaming and online gaming only. It's crap, and all the brainwashed 360-only fanboys are eating up, claiming that they think they SHOULD pay. Ya know, the same kind of people who claim getting their RROD'd 360 repaired isnt a big deal, despite the whole month. It blows my mind how they can be so tolerant, and I have to beleive it's because they dont have a PS3, or just blown out fanboy.

No, it's just that he sees that online-gaming should be free!!! Why do people who swear by the 360 not understand that? (Not pointing at you, just at the brainwashed) I just dont know why people really think Xbox Live deserves $50 a year (edited), it's insane. PC, Wii, DS, PSP, PS2, and PS3 are all free. I know, the only online service comparable to Live is the PSN, but still. Like I said, the PSN has in-game XMB coming soon, not to mention Home, so what will be Microsoft's excuse for making gamers pay to play online? And that's another thing, people dont understand that they're making you simply pay to play online, nothing more.
Well worth the pennies per day !
In fact I just purchased the HD-DVD add on at BB yesterday for 49.99 and was just floored that while watching the King Kong movie included ( what a freakin awesome deal I tell you ) was amazed to see that I still get notified when friends are coming on-line !
I would equate XBL to HD TV; once you have experienced it, there is no going back ! ;)
PS: I know HD-DVD lost but for now, for the price of the unit and the movies are bargain basement - saaaaweeeet ! :)

Wake me when it gets here. Seriously, some of you guys have trouble reading.
I am constantly told, when discussing PSN vs. Xbox Live, that you're not paying for in-game messaging. You're just paying for online play.
Now, in this topic, I'm being told that yes, you ARE paying for in-game messaging.
Either way - no, it's not worth the money to me. I'm already playing online, and I have no problem connecting with friends, and I don't have to pay anyone but my ISP.
I would equate XBL to HD TV; once you have experienced it, there is no going back !
That argument doesn't work. I've experienced XBL, and you're right - I'm not going back.
Here's another one: I'm playing COD4 and Burnout Paradise online for free! PSN is better. See how that argument doesn't work?
I'm paying for:
I'm paying for:
- Infrastructure that allows the community to self-govern with:
- Gamer zone
- Rep
- Prefer/avoid
- Feedback
- 2 levels of matchmaking:
- Preference-based with the features listed above
- Skill-based using the proprietary TruSkill system
- Functional cross-game invite system that brings you straight into a friend's session
- Closed, secure network that actively checks for modded consoles
- A platform-wide standard, so I know that everyone on XBL is using the same service.
- Compared to the competition, MS seems to be the best connected to its community
- There's MS personnel dedicated to the Xbox Live community like Major Nelson and Trixie
- They have MVP, Ambassador and Community Developer Programs. See the gamercards in our sigs? MS didn't make those. But they do have their programmers help community sites.
- Community Calendar with Ladies Night, Prime Time and Family Game Night, Play with Devs, Game With Fame
VoodooHak
And for those that aren't constantly playing online that would all be a waste of time and money. If I play a game online I don't care about matchmaking or prefer/avoid crap...I just want to play a game for a little while. Really not worth $50 a year if you've already bought the game for $60.

I think matchmaking is probably one of the best features and knowing voice chat will be in every game. That is not true with the Playstaiton. You should get a Wii or Playstation if you don't want to pay. I swear some people act as if the fee is something new. It's been like that for almost 6 years. Even gamespot has a subscription that cost $40.00 a year and i never see anyone complaining. Not everything in life is free.
