I dont see how you will be able to play all XBLA games from PC, for one they are only using pad and are not keyboard/mouse compatible

And then there is the piracy matter, developers like XBLA because they get actual sales than 99% pirated copies, so who would ever release for PC and XBLA at same time ?

If this is to work should require a pad on PC and be constantly online to play any XBLA title, otherwise will simply fail imo

So PC gamers have got to lower themselves to be even with console gamers? Haha PC gaming has always been about choice. Make Consoles use keyboard and mouse how about that?

Actually, the input really doesn't matter. I'd worry less about that and more about what they do with Windows 8.

The input matters, in the sense that all XBLA games will have to be remade for Windows 8 than run right away, like the phone deal

Remade? no ... they just need to produce a quality legal emulator. most modern PCs designed for games would smoke a Xbox360 emulator done professionally by a microsoft development team. IT would take a ton of work so im not getting my hopes up for it too much....

[QUOTE="woodenfork21"] Xbox Live failed, lol?? When? Oh, you mean since you won't pay for it it failed for you individually, alone. I get it...but as a whole Xbox Live has been very successful this gen. On-topic- looks and sounds great. Playing against pc gamers as well should be pretty cool. alotta hardcore gamers on pc as well...hmm though, does this mean there will be a lemming/hermit merger next gen? Probably not...lol. savagetwinkie

He means GFWL. They initially made you pay for it and nobody did, so now it's free and only a few games use it.

They never made you pay for GFWL, the only game on the PC that had a cost was shadowrun and that was if you wanted to use the xbl features. And people still fail to realize there is a huge difference between xbox live and any other online system. Like psn or the completely nonexistant service PC uses. PSN is a bare bones service, it doesn't have features like voice chat or matchmaking built in for games. It's completely up to the games to support and implement those features, live just makes it a platform for games to use and can be maintained as a separate object.

It went something like this:

Microsoft person 1: Haha all these shee... nice people are paying for our service i bet we can make more money of it somehow.

Microsoft person 2: True that true that... *thinks*

MP 1: Hey i know lets make it for pc and charge money for it! With all these foo... nice people paying for it on xbox i bet we will make a even more cash sca... i mean offering a ba... i mean good service for the pc users!

MP 2: Great idea! *later*

PC users: WTF is this **** You want me to pay for this when there are better services around for FREE? Go away.

Microsoft: PC gamers are EVIL there are only pirates there!!! *runs away crying*

Well it went something like that. Anyway it was very very sad. Overall im not interested in a new OS and im not interested in xboxlive. If they force it in all their new OS then i simply wont upgrade. If you have the ability to decide if you want that crap or not. Then i might get windows 9 (or whatever) IF that OS is a upgrade with optimization and less memory usage with less loading times / start up times / search times.

thats not even close to what happend, xbox live is a service, thats a platform for games to be built on. There are no services like this on PC in any way shape or form that standardizes matchmaking/voicechat/protocal for server/client and makes it all upgradable outside of the game. There are programs that work around the game to mimic features of the service but on part of the service or game.

[QUOTE="Birdy09"] No.... Microsoft isnt aiming at business with windows 8... they are aiming for the end consumor ... you know, that giant pie that apple has a free reign on at the moment....Birdy09

The vast majority of end-user consumers will use whatever operating system comes on their preassembled computer.

Microsoft despite appearances is a B2B company at core, making substantial proportions of their revenue from enterprise software clients. And every time they roll out a new Windows, IT managers groan at all the potential for security flaws. Institutions like stability.

Even with B2C the same applies but to a lesser extent. People are just moving onto Windows 7. They aren't going to want to have to go out and buy a new OS next year.

This is completely different to your standard OS upgrade (XP to Vista to Windows 7 ... all similar.). You can say MS are a B2B at the core... yes... they are unchallenged in this market.... so why bother developing for it further? as you said... xp does the job.... they dont demand evolution, shinyness or innovate... they just need a low requirment base OS to run. Apple have grown alot due to thier success with the end user, that and the tablet and phone markets which are loosly tied in with thier desktop OS.... with that full package they have picked up steam and are known for quality (as much as I dislike apple....). THAT is the future aim of Windows...... and well if all goes to the current plan it will put OS X to shame. Nobody will buy it? says who? ITS COMPLETELY NEW.... not a minor upgrade like past itterations, along with its release there will be a selection of Windows 8 Tablets, Windows 8 touch laptops/desktops.... while it all picks up steam more entertainment seeking users will jump aboard. Then you have the largly improved bussiness envolvment with cloud..... far more than the minor upgrade.... completely regenerate ecosystem that will be much better than windows 7.... which imo in the grand scheme of things is nothing special... just a revision of something slightly better than xp.

MS only gained OS dominance by getting the business to adopt its platform. Most people will use what the OS at home that they need to know for their jobs. If Apple are smart they'll start offering some great deals to companies for new Mac+Iphone combos (for those that get a company phone).

Windows has sucked for as long as it has because of a lack of real competition.

Windows 8 is not going to be new code, which is what they really need to do, because they want it to be compatible with previous versions as much as possible.

[QUOTE="xsubtownerx"][QUOTE="Led_poison"]It better be free otherwise its going to fail like last time DragonfireXZ95

This is an obvious observation, but I'd also like to add "the ability to play Xbox 360 titles on the PC" with this service.

If you aren't able to play 360 games on PC with it, then it's useless and I'll never use it anyway.

XBL itself is crap, and I hate using it.

Being able to play 360 games on PC ? lol makes zero sense , and btw why even comment you think xbl is crap and wont use it anyway.. post boost much ?

I really don't care about XBL is a horrible service. I won't use it even if it's free.

tormentos

No is not is a good service,is just not $60 dollars good,no matter what gimmic feature it has,i would love to have xbox live for free i don't care about facebook, twitter or netflix, nor care for party chat, just give me core online play and move on.

Why is it that people keep sayin' its 60 $ its not it between 30-45 $ depends which site ofc or store..

Anyway i really dont understand why people even post if they "hate it" and wont use it anyway whats the point ?

... Games for windows live. They tried to charge money for it. When it did not work they even tried to make it free but no one wished to use it any more because it was bad. So lets start... yes there is. Its known as steam and its free. No PC users want a console server client system. Good god the console system is so horribly bad that it make me cry tears of blood whenever a port just copy the horrible console system directly over to the PC.

Well yes that is the OLD reason, but like I said.... that market doesn't need focus now. and MS are doing better than apple simply because they aim to appeal to everyone, sure you dont get the "Quality SEAL" that apple brand represents.... its up to the 3rd parties to make that happen. Im against the idea that it needs a complete rewrite, best development tools in the business, windows 8 uses 1/3 less RAM than windows 7 and boots faster, the mix between metro and standard suits all systems... its alittle more complex but it works....

Windows 7 is pretty good. I could entertain some reasons as to why the Mac OS and Linux releases are better, but for the majority of people Windows does everything it needs to with the minimum amount of fuss required. To say it sucks is just hyperbole.

Even if games did need to be redesigned, I doubt it would be very hard. C# and the XNA framework provided nearly automatic porting between Windows devices, and I expect porting an arcade game from C++ to C# would be pretty easy for even small developers. Hell, a hobbyist could probably make his own competent emulator through C# if MS is slow to do it.

No, they gained it because they offered OS that worked with hardware from various manufacturers. Apple will never do that and therefore OSX will never be a threat to Windows's dominance in computer market.

I would think that Xbox Arcade titles could be cross platform using an emulator or something and future arcade titles can just be designed with cross platform in mind. I think this is one of Microsofts first steps into becoming digital download, obviosuly with the new app store opening this will be good for small & indie developers to get apps/games out there.

I am sorry man, but on the PC front, we have Steam that provides that services, and we have programs likfe X-fire that can supplement it if needed for ANY game. Furthermore, clearly you are not a PC gamer, because if you were you would know that Steam already provides this services. Furthermore, most PC gamers dislike matchmaking, it is a poor way of finding a game. We much prefer a server browser where we can choose the map we want to play at, the ping of the server and etc. Furthermore, having servers fosters a community of people who constantly play on that server. As for your PSN comments, PSN is not barebones. In my experience, it is better than XBL for playing games online, due to the fact that more games on it use dedicated servers and the games on PSN dont lag nearly as much as games on Xbox Live (at least from my own experience). So yeah XLive may have cross game chat (which imo is a useless feature) but PSN does the one thing an online is meant to do, and that is play games with little amount of lag.

IM running the Windows 8 developer build (posting from it)and its pretty good at even this stage. I honestly think an Xbox Live tile would go down a treat on this. The tiles make it easy to navigate and the old style windows 7 interface is just a click away if you want it.

Is that why Cthulhu saves the world on steam for a week destroyed XBLA sales and it was on there for a at least year?

I'll probably use XBL if it's free just to play with friends who have 360's/next MS console but if I have to pay any sort of fee then I'm going to avoid xbl like the plague.

Yet when VAlve does nothing they get loved up for it...

I'm generally pretty cheap...all Steam needs to do is keep putting on killer sales and then I couldn't really care less what Windows does better with Live.

Don't forget SMB, Zeno Clash, Darwinia as well. Also the developer of FortressCraft has yet to see a cent from Microsoft despite selling half a million copies of his game. Compared to PC, XBL is just a mess of over-regulation and corporate greed, something that indie devs should be avoiding.

Also, the developer of No Time to Explain put his game of various torrent trackers and recorded no decline in sales.

I'm not a fan of the design, no wonder why I don't play my Xbox a lot.

I dont see how you will be able to play all XBLA games from PC, for one they are only using pad and are not keyboard/mouse compatible

And then there is the piracy matter, developers like XBLA because they get actual sales than 99% pirated copies, so who would ever release for PC and XBLA at same time ?

If this is to work should require a pad on PC and be constantly online to play any XBLA title, otherwise will simply fail imo

hypoty

Is that why Cthulhu saves the world on steam for a week destroyed XBLA sales and it was on there for a at least year?

Don't forget SMB, Zeno Clash, Darwinia as well. Also the developer of FortressCraft has yet to see a cent from Microsoft despite selling half a million copies of his game. Compared to PC, XBL is just a mess of over-regulation and corporate greed, something that indie devs should be avoiding.

Also, the developer of No Time to Explain put his game of various torrent trackers and recorded no decline in sales.

The fortresscraft dev is really going to be screwed when Minecraft for xbox gets released since all the people with DOS PC will be playing it on their Xbox360. PC is where it's at for indie devs

Why would I pay for it when I can have Steam for free of charge or Origins for that matter?

Developers can sell there apps in the new Microsft App store and Microsoft will take a 0% cut of the sale. Apple currently take 30% so Microsofts move could be an indication of them trying to force a shift in power.
