[QUOTE="KalDurenik"][QUOTE="savagetwinkie"] They never made you pay for GFWL, the only game on the PC that had a cost was shadowrun and that was if you wanted to use the xbl features. And people still fail to realize there is a huge difference between xbox live and any other online system. Like psn or the completely nonexistant service PC uses. PSN is a bare bones service, it doesn't have features like voice chat or matchmaking built in for games. It's completely up to the games to support and implement those features, live just makes it a platform for games to use and can be maintained as a separate object.savagetwinkie
It went something like this:
Microsoft person 1: Haha all these shee... nice people are paying for our service i bet we can make more money of it somehow.
Microsoft person 2: True that true that... *thinks*
MP 1: Hey i know lets make it for pc and charge money for it! With all these foo... nice people paying for it on xbox i bet we will make a even more cash sca... i mean offering a ba... i mean good service for the pc users!
MP 2: Great idea! *later*
PC users: WTF is this **** You want me to pay for this when there are better services around for FREE? Go away.
Microsoft: PC gamers are EVIL there are only pirates there!!! *runs away crying*
Well it went something like that. Anyway it was very very sad. Overall im not interested in a new OS and im not interested in xboxlive. If they force it in all their new OS then i simply wont upgrade. If you have the ability to decide if you want that crap or not. Then i might get windows 9 (or whatever) IF that OS is a upgrade with optimization and less memory usage with less loading times / start up times / search times.
thats not even close to what happend, xbox live is a service, thats a platform for games to be built on. There are no services like this on PC in any way shape or form that standardizes matchmaking/voicechat/protocal for server/client and makes it all upgradable outside of the game. There are programs that work around the game to mimic features of the service but on part of the service or game.Pretty sure any game that uses steamworks does what you described.
