XBOX LIVE GOLD members, answer me this. ADs and online play, Free?

Ok, we all know there are ads on the dashboard, right? Well the other day, XBOX LIVE online play was free for ALL XBOX LIVE members including silver membership one weekend. The reason why it was free, was because of advertisement by a company who advertises on the dashboard covered the charges for everyone. So with that being said, why cant LIVE be free throughout when its clear the advertisers can make up for the "lost?"

People are willing to pay 50$ a year for the service. So why wouldnt MS charge?

wat lost? people don't pay by the day or weekend, how many slivers accounts actually played during that weekend compared to everyone on live always being free?

Because if they charge MS can run happier to the bank

theirs no adverts on Live in the UK. in any case adverts dont mean free, i still have to pay for newspapers and magazines which are full of them

Look, I know a purpose of a business is to make money, I GET THAT! I swear, GS members be repeating the same stuff over and over. People understand MS wants to make money, but we as gamers shouldnt have to fork over to pay for LIVE. I dont even know why I even create this thread knowing im going to get the same response with people comfortable paying for something that should be free. Im done with this. Seriously, if anything, I get more rowled up by the cable companies themselves, since im forking over like 30 dollars a month for internet with comcast, and its slow as hell. Their service is horrendous, and XBL is rarely down and not working. $5 a month for a reliable and quality service is fine in my book.

If anything they should half the yearly cost to $30. I don't mind paying but now that there are ad's I think M$ should give the players something in return.

They need Live to cover the costs from RRoD. People pay for it, so they will keep charging. As soon as 360 owners stop paying for it, and complain about the cost, then MS will be forced to lower the price or eliminate it completely.

Haha, trust me, as soon as Sony starts charging for online , I am done. I dont care if SOCOM 4 comes out, I wont pay for it. If PC is still free I will keep gaming there though.

i dont pay for live either i have psn and it works perfectly for me! but i tried paying for live one month when they had a deal where it was only 1 dollar but thewy also put me on automatic renewal without my permission i had to call and cancel because i thought it was wrong of them to put me on automatic renewal but yeah thats pretty close to a mugging i would say:o lol! ill get me a few prepaid cards for odst though in a few weeks

i make more money in a few hours than the entire year of the xboxlive fee but psn is better because its free

lol, i'd take pop-ups that doesn't go away unless you un-plug and plug your controller again over a sum of 50 bucks. really.

the reason i feel ripped of on paying for live is they charge for a year a month or whatever even if you dont use it they should have a timer on it that lets you spend hours that you pay for. like $50 for 8,000 hours or something thats almost a whole year of actual play time:?
