Which of the two services do you prefer?

XBOX Live *Pros* - User friendly, unified, built into every game, more people on than PSN, more people with mics, usually first with patches/updates, faster updates,

*Cons* - Fee $50/year, P2P, rarely dedicated servers, No wi-fi $100 for bridge.

PSN *Pros* - FREE, (IMO) game store more organized, wi-fi ready, Dedicated servers on SCE games (Resistance, LBP)

*Cons* - Less mics, not as user friendly as XBOX live, longer DL speeds for updates (From past experiences), usually late on patches/updates

So which of the two do you prefer?

As far as gameplay and lag go, theyre pretty identical. However, the party system, game invite system on Xbox Live is much more intuitive....and of course everyone has a headset. Live Gold is better......but PSN for free is pretty damn good. If Sony packaged headsets with every PS3 their network would feel ALOT more complete.

Cost shouldn't even be a factor

If 50 dollars a year is too hard of a burden then you have no place gaming. Pick a free hobby like reading books from the library instead.

The only thing I care about with online is playing online and PSN did that better for me than XBL Gold. I experienced more lag on XBL. Although I get little to no talkers on PSN the only game I experience lag on the PS3 was with Rainbow Six Vegas. I admit that as a service XBL is more unified and offers more but it's mostly stuff I don't give a crap about.

sony would charge if they could but they know that no one would pay for their pitiful excuse of an online service

I still don't see why people like this are so proud about that, considering I've had games with MORE than this player count for around a decade now on my PC. 60 players isn't a big deal anymore.

No it's not. I left my PS3 online overnight to install/update Socom when I first bought it, and sorry that's not user friendly. Also trying to get a party together on PSN is a headache compared to XBOX live, that is USER FRIENDLY.

having to install something is EASY though correct? you pop in the disc, it will tell you need to update, you let it update, and your set. USER FRIENDLY MEANS EASE OF USE. although i agree about the party system being easier on xbl, the XMB interface is much easier to use than either the blades or the xbox live expirence

uh no actually it isnt at least the xblexperience doesnt take 3 hours to navigate to neither do the blades

Did you actually just list Home as a pro for PSN? And say the game store is better? I'm not even sure what to say to that :|

for consoles it is. MS held back the player count last gen due to their lack of Dedicated server, this gen they did the same but then Sony came in and brought power to the players.

So are you saying that it isn't that bigger deal that i could only play with 18 people instead of my 28 so friends? That is why there are PS3 exclusives such as MAG being created, it's something like 100 player online battles could be more i can't remember.

Hearing about how in SOCOM you have to go through a server list, then find a room, then find a match... wtf? Is this Kali.net circa 1993? I'm so used to just hitting quick match or entering in what map/game style to play and the XBL quickly doing the rest. If every game had online thats as easy to use as that, I think cows would happily pay $4 month.

Compard to a system that's updates are less than 20 seconds it's NOT as user friendly. It wasn't so much as the install on Socom as it was the patches/updates.

I still couldn't care less. It could be as few as 4 people playing for all I care. I just want a game thats fun. R2 didn't give me that. I didn't have fun with the multiplayer, and the 60 players thing didn't help.

On the contrary, games that I play online on my PS3 always have tons of people with headsets. The only pro I can honestly think of that 360 has over PSN is invites, because I can barely figure out how to do that with some PS3 games.

I dunno, they both have their advantages. Live has a much better chat system and quicker updates. PSN has more dedicated servers, that's why Resistance 2 and Warhawk own anything I've played on Live. Right now I'm using PSN more and I like how it only takes my money when I'm buying something from the Store. I may stop paying for Live soon, haven't decided yet.

PSN is better of dedicated servers on big games.

Can you imagine how good gears would be with dedicated servers? It would be the best ever. But microsoft is too stingy.

The downloads suck bad on psn but I'll take it if they arent charging me anything and are running servers for my gaming.

Oh yeah. Netflix is awesome on the xbox side. But I still prefer psn.

I dont like the party chat system because it subverts the chat system that is imbedded in the game. For example in Gears when the dead people are talking to the rest of the team in party chat. Otherwise its awesome. They should make it so that the games chat system overrides the party chat.

A subscription has nothing to do with a games performance, Gears of War 2 was straight-up unplayable online when it came out, and today, it still sucks, and now Epic is finally getting around to saying there'll be an update this month. Not that there's any excuse for the way Socom is, but your argument isn't a very fair one.

Yeah it is not as good, but the two threads about Xbox live and PSN, you keep trashing PSN like there is no tommorrow. It might not be as good as the 360, but it is fine for most people who play on it. I have no problem with it. It is missing a couple of features, but nothing that will get me all hyped over it.

It might not be as good as the 360, but it is fine for most people who play on it. I have no problem with it. It is missing a couple of features, but nothing that will get me all hyped over it.

thats because psn users are stuck with the bare bones minimum the crappy xbm and the store which is devoid of almost anything decent

So what? It is not a big deal. I hear no one on hear complaining about how they wish that PSN had all the features that XBL had. We are fine with what we have. XBL is a great service and does plenty of things better. I do not see how the XMB is crappy. That is your opinion. Plus the store is fine. We might not get the amount of stuff that XBL gets, but we still get stuff do we not?

[QUOTE="hoosier7"][QUOTE="Rdiz"]I dont go around making ridiculous arguments like psn store being better then xbl marketplace which is a complete load psn doesnt even come close Rdiz
They are practically the same i've been on TODAY as i own them BOTH and noticed that they are very similar stores. Live has more demos, the interface is definately better on PSN, they have the same amounts of free content.

gamertag ?

thats what i thought but anyway market place is 10x better then psn store anyone who thinks otherwise is a cow that has never touched a 360

I own a 360, my brother is playing Halo right now, you have obviously not touched a PS3, i'm sorry but some of the stuff on live market place is a scam, could i just ask you how many points is it for a picture for your gamercard? Other than the crappy free ones of course.
