xbox live inferior to psn (GOW2)

i'm seeing a lot of SW users commenting on that lag issue.

i wonder why is there so much lag as they say. also, there are people complaining about the matchmaking in Gears 2. anyone knows anything about it? is it true?

All I hear is "MOOOO" but I agree that XBL should have more dedicated servers. Unbelievable that Gears of War and Halo 3 don't have them, at least.

Wow, gears 2 lags so much, PSN has no lag because of the dedicated servers, xbox live has no dedicated servers and it kinda suck because the single player mission is great. Played it a lot at my cousin's home and his internet is fast as hell, so it's not the connection, it's the core of xbox live that is broken with no dedicated servers.cramoisi

I haven't seen any lag aside from a tiny bit of bullet lag from time to time on my end. :?The_Game21x

it appears the problem is only affecting certain people. people are saying it takes them 30 mins to get into a game when it takes me 1-3 mins :?

My friend (who lives in Georgia), and I (I live in Arizona) play multiplayer in Gears 2, and many other games, quite a bit, and we never experience lag. If I were you, I would look into getting a better connection.

Just because you have some lag, doesn't always mean it's someone else's fault.

Also, from what I have heard, not all PS3 games use dedicated servers.

I guess so. I've never had to wait too long for a game either.

The PSN is a joke . all Multiplayer games lag unless they are on a deicated server . but to say PSN is better than XBL is laughable. XBL will always be better than PSN

It's funny, when it happened to SOCOM, it was "OMG PSN SUXORS".  When it happens with Gears 2 it becomes "A lot of people bought the game, nothing to do with our sh***y P2Pgames that we get ripped off 50$ a year for"

Yep, me too. But TC, don't let the one experience you had "playing over your cousin's house" assume that this is how XBL is as a whole. Some games have dedicated servers, some don't.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of bandwith would be fine and guaruantee a lag-less experience for GoW 2 and most of the games on XBL? I don't have GOLD, but I'm thinking of getting it...Salt_The_Fries

It really doesn't matter because how Live as is set up. As long as you have broadband you will be fine.

Socom is fixed. Try again. Play the current game rather than going by an OLD gamespot review. How about saying hi to Resistance 2 which runs 60 players lag free.

doesn't help. I have a fast broadband connection but that goes to waste when I have to connect to people in the US. Same with COD4 and Halo btw

but I must say, the issues I'm having with the gears servers are not as bad as they used to be. It's getting better each day it seems

 He is right, i use them both on a regular basis and PSN is full of problems. Look at COD4 and COD WaW... same connection problems, i even get framedrops playing CoD4 on PSN... no wonder they are not charging for it... Start charging and deliver a on par product and i would be happy.

The problem isnt people's Up or down speeds, its that ALL Xbox live games are peer to peer.  Basically, the connection has to go from the Host (whoever started the game) to the other people then back to the host and the host resends the data to other players.  So what happens is, as fast as internet speeds are, it cant delete the fact that the information has to make almost 4 trips for everyone to update. What happens is the Host sees things as little as a 1/5 of a second different from everyone to even as much as what seems like 3/4 of a second.  And no one's system "sees" what other systems see, but the Hosts system is the one that makes the rules.  What happen is, in racing games, someone will knock you off the road on your screen and the host's screen, but on the screen for the person that hit you, they were 15 meters back from your car, didnt touch you. 

In Gears what happens is the host will be around the corner and chainsaw/shotgun you, while on your screen hes still 2-3 steps away from the corner. Also, because the host's system is the one the game is actually "playing" on, what the host sees is what happens, his shots register more frequently, and both Gears of War games have been notorious for shots not registering. While if there was a dedicated server (like some ps3 games) everyone is operating on the same delay, cause no one is playing from that dedicated server, it makes things more fair overall. The issue remains that no ones seeing the EXACT same thing, but the delay balances out rather than one man having the 'drop' on everyone. 

Its just unfortunate we pay 50 bucks a year for Live and microsoft cant spend the bit of cash to give us dedicated servers on ATLEAST the most popular games, Halo, Gears, Forza, etc.
