What the hell? You guys are complaining about getting free points? This is why companies don't care about us anymore. To many of the people in the "core gaming community" are a bunch of ungrateful jerks who can never be satisfied.

Messiahbolical-

This is obviously just a scheme to try to get people to spend more money, if you think Microsoft is really trying to "give back to the people" with this move you're blind. What can you buy with 200 MSP? That's nothing. :| The MSP system shouldn't even exist to begin with. It was a scheme in it's own and it works.

And Sony does this exact same thing with PSN+. You pay $50 a year to get these "great deals" on DLC, and other downloadables.

There's nothing wrong with it. That's what smart companies do. Valve does it with Steam too. They mix all these great "impulse" buy games in with the big name games, and people go crazy because of this "incentive" they have to buy things because they're on sale. Sony and MS give the illusion that you're getting a good deal because you get a "discount" by paying $50 a year, and you get "free" MS points by paying for XBL, and doing surveys.

Correct, but you left out the fact that PSN+ is completely optional while XBL is mandatory for people who just want to play their games online. They're 2 completely different things. PSN+ is basically Sony's version of the Entertainment Book: I don't like it when people compare XBL to PSN+ because honestly they're not comparable. They COULD be if M$ allowed online play to Silver Account members though...

Hey, I also threw in Steam too.

They are compareable though because, by definition, a comparison is noting the similarities and differences of multiple things.

Like, an apple and orange are both different tasting, and different color, but they're both fruit, they both grow from trees, and they both look good in a fruit bowl hat :P

Steam, PSN+, and XBL Gold are different in price, requirement (I guess is the right word), and different services entirely, but they all use very very similar schemes to get members to purchase things.

XBOX Live Gold is a scheme to get people to purchase XBOX Live Gold...

Mind = blown.

Today on Plus I got around 4-5 free moving dynamic themes, I got a PS1 game,a full PSN puzzle game called Cuboid, 2 PS minis and a bunch of discounts such as the new Dead Nation. There will also be other goods this December for PS Plus such as new exclusive avatars. A new PS Plus area was also announced for PS Home users. I like PS Plus. I have already receive more than I've spent and the subscription isn't even half way yet.

it's pretty lame but better than nothing.

i wish i could get credit for past years.

i think they found a goldmine in the whole spend "x" get "x" back promotions and that's why they are doing this, (and to stop people from buying cheaper cards online) i just got my 800 points back for the promotion they had in october.

that was good timing since i was going to buy RDR undead anyway.

Riverwolf007
Never got my 1600 points, from the buy 2 years of live and 1600 free points for $84. It was a good deal, practilly 2 years for the price of one. Cmon M$ i want to get the noble map pack :(

I'm renewing my subscription anyways....but the number of points they are giving is kind of laughable chances are the 200 points I'd get for renewing would just sit unused in my account because nothing but stupid costume packs would cost 200 points and any worthwhile DLC would pretty much eat up all the points I'd put in to get it anyways. Wonder if their stupid survey has a question about how stupid the point rewards are, if so I'll answer it......but they can keep the lousy 20 points.

and you will use about 2% of those things. PS+ would be good if it actually offered games that weren't common denominator games appeal to the widest audience games when I had it it had a few games that I would actually use...I don't care for themes I don't even change my theme.

Just from the yearly gold renewal and taking the survey every month, you'll net 440 MSP per year. If you combine that with the Bing MSP reward system, you can get 2-3k MSP. Which adds up to 3-4 Arcade games (more, if you buy games on Deals of the Week) or 3-4 DLC packs for your games.

That, and if it's for free, I couldn't care less whether it's pointless or not.

fusionhunter

With playstation plus I get alot more.

Isn't that slightly irrelevant to the XBL reward system, or are we trying to include fanboyism in this?

Yes it is irrelevant to see what other companies are doing as a matter of fact. Just like Sony and Microsoft went into motion gaming.

Yeah...I found out more about it after they sent me an invite *oddly enough 2 days after it was introduce...*

Suffice to say I am very unhappy with this the program seems to be just a new user grab by Microsoft instead of a method to actually rewards its users it was in beta and testing for 8 months at least and this is what we get out of the gate? Let alone the fact that nearly every thing is based monetary so you have to spend money out to get what seems 1-5% return it doesn't benefit long time and loyal members in the least.

I've been on Xbox Live since 2002, I have my account paid up till 2013...and nothing about the rewards program is retroactive all the money I've spent I won't be rewarded for in the least..Netflix? Used it since it first came up on marketplace...Oh sorry new netflix sign ups only...WHAT?!!! the program so far gives me no benefits for all the money I've spent...

I've gotta admit it I'm seriously debating just taking the 150 dollar hit and taking my 3 360's selling em, selling my 90 or so 360 games and just turning the other way Microsoft has been building a large **** pile for years and I have steered around it so many times over the years but I think this rewards program is the last piece of **** on the pile of **** with No 1st party to speak of, and the Motion sensing gimmick they seem to be solely concentrating on now...I think I'm gonna just turn around and go the other way I have increasingly felt like a 2nd hand citizen even with all my years of loyalty to Xbox and Xbox live...

Trying to get ps3 beat in a fight. Well its sounds crappy, as is ps3's reward system.Handsome_Boy_8D
You could win an all expenses paid trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as PlayStation's guest with PlayStation Rewards. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/10/27/introducing-playstation-rewards-a-new-way-to-earn-exclusive-status-and-recognition/

It's not much (it usually never is :P) but I guess it's cool they give you something for things you end up doing regardless (like renewing a Live account, or buying something off the marketplace).

Give me a reward scheme for Gamerscore. That will get people buying more games and spending more time on your system.

More people buying games = More developers using Xbox = Microsoft earning cash.

I thinksomething around25 Microsoft points for 1000G's is about right.

The average Xbox user will only hit around 25000G in their time, unless they acheivment hunt.
