Despite HDMI 1.1 being included in the Xbox 360 premium, it is still not capable of doing LPCM 5.1-7.1, Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD-MA (High Definition Audio). This means the Xbox 360 is not a High Definition machine. :D

Yea, we know, it's a high definition wanna be. But anyways, it still looks good without it's hd audio.

My brother has a brand new 1.3 HDMI receiver and its impossible to tell the difference. You start reaching for terms like "slightly sharper midrange, punchier midbass" and all the other ridiculous things audiophiles say to justify their thousands of dollars spent on that stuff. Diminishing returns FTL. Our eyes and ears can only discern so much detail.

'Tis true....it's reached the point of being beyond pretenious and just obnoxious when 99% of the people in the world just don't have the experience to tell the real differences wihtou someon showing them (and even then they probably imagine it). It's like most people who drink wine....

I really don't get why of all the things to argue about here the so called "true HD" concept gets so much attention. Despite what people here think, its not a big deal. Unless you're a total AV freak (and I am)and have agood home theatresetup (and most people don't) you aren't going to notice much of a difference if any.

Ok, it's not a Hi Def system that's too bad for the 1% of 360 owners with 7.1 audio. PS3 owners have a huge advantage on this one, after all they have the cash to spend on audio since none of it is going into buying games.

I heard so many analog records vs. compact disc arguements back in day and they always cracked me up. Maybe PS3 titles will come out on acetate vynal records so they can have even better audio.
