Hm.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Big deal.
Anyone with half a brain wasn't scared about the kinect spying on them. Of the people critisizing the One, the people screaming NSA were by far the most stupid.
So I guess people can finally shut the f**k up about the "NSA spy cam" nonsense. Would be nice to see a bundle without Kinect though, just seems like the smart thing to do to match the PS4's price.bobbetybob*pats you on the shoulder* oh bob If we could only live on guesses and wishes.
I already thoght this was going to happen but all this makes me think is then why is it mandatory but I guess saying you want developers to use it and you dont want to ship a incomplete experiance is a good enough pr answer when people ask .
This won't stop people from making jokes about NSA. I'm sure we'll have some more theories coming. shadowchronicle"The Kinect is self powered and will spy on you even if it's unplugged"

So why are they forcing people to spend an extra $100 on the console when they can ship a Kinectless one at the same price point as the PS4 and be more competitive?
THAT, IS THE QUESTION.
If they decide to sell a Kinectless XB1 SKU for $399, they'll FINALLY get my attention. If they sell it for $349, I'm pre-ordering it AND the PS4.
Until then, my PS4 Pre-order stands - alone.
*Sigh*
Well on it's way to becoming a shittier PS4. I was looking forward to a bit of diversity. Three different consoles, not remarkably different, but they had enough varying features to set them apart. Now we have the PS4, the PS3.5 and the Wii U which is basically a write-off.

To have uniformity across its entire userbase? So as not to fragment the install base like the original Kinect did? To give more incentive to devs to actually fully harness the Kinect and it's potential? To actually differentiate the X1 experience from the PS4's?
I would have thought that was blatantly obvious.
So why force it down consumers throats if not "truly" required? WHy not sell it as an accessory and sell xone for cheaper (maybe closer to 400 bucks) and be more of a compettion to Sony??http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/05/ask-microsoft-anything-about-xbox-one

The biggest problem with the Kinect 2.0 is that they haven't shown ANYTHING to show off for it that warrants another $100 on top of the basic console hardware.
Waving your hands to change cable channels is not worth the price of a Kinect.
Microsoft should have pushed for a more interesting Kinect experience. As it stands, all you're gonna do with it that you don't already do with the 360 version is swipe away cable channels and pop-up internet factoids. - seriously? People will pay $100 extra for that?

Yes, clearly, that's all they have planned for the next 10 years. Absolutely nothing else in the pipeline.

Yea, but the uniformity is not mandatory by their own admission now. They killed the actual value of the Kinect by making this announcement. They have no reason to sell the XB1 for $499 now, since it includes an OPTIONAL $100 piece of hardware that developers DON'T have to use to make games with.
They just killed themselves - instead of JUSTIFYING the Kinect, they OPTIONED it.
The almost have no choice but to create another SKU for $100 less, which IMO, is a GOOD IDEA considering how bad their rap is now.

That's what I'm bemoaning here. They had an original vision, for better or worse, and had to twist and contort it to meet the demands of a vocal subset of gamers on the internet. Which is f*cking tragic in my opinion. They've just stripped their initial plans down to it's bare bones and have re-dressed it as a shittier PS4.
They're going to get stomped as a result. We could have had some truly great battles between the two consoles, but now it'll come down to X1 getting squashed underfoot.
I'm not going to get either console, but at one stage, I was thinking, if I had to get one I'd get the X1. The PS4 certainly looked attractive, but by and large, it's a more powerful 360. It's not doing anything particularly noteworthy to shake the console space up because, at it's core, it's a weak gaming PC. And it's pretty hilarious to see people getting so worked up about a gimped computer.
At least the Xbox One and it's original strike plan could have made things interesting and given gaming the next shove in the right direction. And yes, I'm talking about always-online, Kinect req. etc. All those idiots bleating "NSA, kinect lol" bollocks be damned.
They don't realise all they're getting with the PS4 is a refined and medium specced PC. Just LOL.
I wonder how Respawn Entertainment is going to re-work Titanfall now, since they stated that the Xb1 version uses the Kinect to add extra "AI" to the game.
Are they gonna say that people who choose not to plug in the Kinect are getting an inferior version of the game? That they may as well just get the PC or 360 version?
EDIT - nevermind. Got the "Cloud" mixed up the the "Kinect". Sorry about that. Ignore my original post, I'm wrong.
Lol wut, they said that the cloud is used to power AI not Kinect.I wonder how Respawn Entertainment is going to re-work Titanfall now, since they stated that the Xb1 version uses the Kinect to add extra "AI" to the game.

No problem, although it would be fun to scan in people using Kinect and then shoot them in the face.[QUOTE="Netherscourge"]TitanFall supports Kinect?O_oI wonder how Respawn Entertainment is going to re-work Titanfall now, since they stated that the Xb1 version uses the Kinect to add extra "AI" to the game.

No, it doesn't. I'm an idiot. Actually, it might support it in some arbitrary way, but it's not required so far as I know.
He pretty much states that the X1 will still function even if Kinect is unplugged, but obviously you can't use any Kinect-related features. From the way he formulated his response, it seems most X1 games will make heavy use of Kinect, whether it be voice commands, gestures or something else....good news I guess for the paranoid people who actually thought that someone was going to spy on them through the device.....these people can just unplug it and game without the fear of their daily activites being uploaded to Microsoft. Of course it will be hard for those people to justify getting an X1 with a Kinect they won't use, but that's another matter altogether(wrong system choice basically, should stick with the PS4.). Novemeber can't come soon enough, I wish they would announce the release date already.
Interesting this allows Microsoft to make a Kinectless Bundle in the Future, if the System has decent Games im tempted to buy one later down the Road.
It also shows that Kinect 2 will more or less be a joke like the Previous Kinect, for developers the Kinect will be a afterthought, another gimmick they don't give a **** about, which is probably good for all of us.
Also Wow never seen a Company pull such a huge 180 due to competition. Competition benefits us the Consumers the most and I don't understand when people say they want a Company *To Fail* and leave the Console Wars, it doesn't benefit them only Stales the industry.
Another example of the cluster$%^& that is the XB1 design team, though with the trail of hastily made revisions and policy "edits" to this point it was generally expected.
At least when Google botched up the Nexus Q they had the good sense to pull it from the public eye to redesign, if not shelve altogether. Watching MS flail about in this manner stopped being entertaining after they (rightly) made the huge initial policy reversals. Now it's just sad.
I doubt a bundle without it comes out anytime soon. They still want everyone to have the Kinect when the One comes out, its just that you can uplug it when not using a game that requires it.
i can see they pushed that panic button at microsoft, they did a 180 in absolutely everything, i wonder if preorders are "going so well" why they needed to do this?
well good for lems that will be getting their low end wanna be pc.
Whoever is in charge of marketing/publicity at Microsoft should be fired.
Every single week there's a new news tidbit that comes out that makes the value of the Xbox One drop - while the shelf price stays the SAME.
This has got to be the worst marketing campaign I've ever seen for an upcomming electronic product.
Sony won't even have to show up at Gamescon at this point - they'll just let Major Nelson sell XB1 stickers outside on the sidewalk to prove their point.
