Xbox One Game Recording Features Restricted To Xbox Live Gold Members

Game DVR, the Xbox Ones system for recording and uploading footage from users games will be restricted to Xbox Live Gold members.

This comes from an Xbox Live features page on Xbox.com, which lists features like SmartMatch, NFL on Xbox, Xbox Ones TV Guide feature and, crucially, its Game DVR feature as Xbox live Gold specific features.

We contacted Microsoft to get confirmation that Game DVR features would indeed be limited to Xbox Live Gold members. Microsoft responded, saying I can confirm that Game DVR features will be available to Xbox Live Gold members only."

Hope Sony doesn't do the same. Makes no sense to sign for Gold or Plus to record a single player game.

There is no reason for this to be behind a paywall. It costs MS nothing as the capabilities are in the hardware and it isnt MS's internet bandwidth being used. It would be like buying a DVR and then having to pay a fee to your cable company in order to use it. It makes no sense.

But that is the way of MS with XBL it seems. There is no reason that much of what is on XBL needs to be there. Netflix CERTAINLY comes to mind. I think this is the only way for MS to create the illusion of value for XBL, because there is also no legitimate reason people should have to pay a fee to play games online, over their own internet connection that they pay for, either. Maybe MS believes that if they put other should-be-free-to-use features behind XBL Gold, people will be stupid enough to believe they are getting good value for their money.

PS+ only applies to online multiplayer. I don't need PS+ to watch Netflix or record video using a hardware feature that is automatically included in the box I paid good money for and costs Sony nothing once I've bought the box. Record a video and upload it to facebook? That literally costs Sony or MS nothing...they don't run my internet, it costs them zero bandwidth, they don't own Facebook so aren't using up storage space to save the videos.

Meanwhile, PS+ actually GIVES you stuff for your money, as opposed to charging you for things that are free everywhere else. PS+ gives you free games starting day 1 (for PS4). XBL Gold gives you the priveledge of paying even more to watch netflix or to record video using the hardware you paid for and uploading it over the internet you already pay for. Wow.

I looked at the page and it never said that you would not be able to do this with out xbl gold and it doesnt make since to me if it does.
