Xbox One getting free Dark Souls with Dark Souls III Pre Order ( Not PS 4 or PC ), why?

Well, how do you give away Dark Souls to PS4 players? PS4 has no backwards compatibility, Xbox One does.

No clue why Bandai Namco aren't offering PC players the first game as a bonus, though.

Because X1 is the best of the best of the best, sir. :P

I think that xbox 1 is getting free dark soul because from software wanted xbox 1 to get free dark soul.

Maybe they know Dark Souls III will have some performance issues on Xbox One, maybe they are trying to soften the blow?

Does it really matter, if you are a fan of the series you've played them all already.

Get used to this- preordering (or sometimes even just buying) Xbone games gets you free Xbox 360 games via backwards compatibility.

We've already gotten it with Gears of War, you get Alan Wake with Quantum Break, Dark Souls with Dark Souls 3, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 with Seige, and it's believed you'll get Doom 1 and 2 if you preorder the new Doom.

It's a neat offering, especially if you haven't played that game before.

But anyway, I prefer the PS4 preorder for DS3, I'm sure the soundtrack is going to be fantastic.

Because who cares?

I've seen numerous Sony supporters downplay this for various reasons...Bottom line it is not worth much today and PS4 people are not missing out on much, I assume most people who are getting DS3 already played the first one.

For me I just see it as a nice value addition for the people who are new to the series, who may currently be on a tight budget, they are getting the first game in the series which took me around 90 hours to go through.

In short, there appears to be little demand for this kind of thing on the PS4, and Microsoft's market position with Xbox One gives them a little more reason for this kind of promo. Sony has no reason to go out of their way to provide something like this imo.

The xbone version is the worst of the bunch so they try to make it more appeling but it will not work and PS4 will have the majority of sales like always.

I don't see why it matters. Everyone who is a fan of Souls games already owns a PS4 for Bloodborne.

Sony could easily add it on their PSNow games list and offer it for PS4 owners to buy. Not really a problem. Sony already has the technology to play last gen games on PS4.

MS will have these offers a lot this gen, BC is an awesome feature

@indzman: Dark Souls was already a GWG freebie given away back in June 1, 2014.

I keep noticing these "BC incentives" are all previous GWG free sub games. It's nice, but it's also cheap. For instance, I got every GWG game ever released, so this is just another cheap incentive that does nothing for a decade+ long XBL subscriber like me. I keep seeing them push these repeated old free games for future promotions. It's not as impressive at it looks for those like me that actually pay attention.

The real issue is the worst version of Dark Souls III will be the (highly likely) Xbone version. This news is sort of a distraction more than anything.

Imagine the PS4 had BC and Uncharted 4 came with Uncharted 1,2,3 as a pre order bonus that would be awesome

Yeah but people that played Bloodborne on the PS4 that haven't played any other souls games before and have an Xbox also will be interested in that. There's always new gamers out there that haven't played the old games.

Pretty much, I'm sure they'll do that with Mass Effect or if at some point they come out with another Bioshock game, maybe even Crackdown or Ghost Recon. That's how MS will sweetened the pot for gamers to buy games on the X1.

They are offering a discount for the people that own Dark Souls 1 or 2.

I think that is actually a better deal, as it's kind of a loyalty discount you are getting (I've bought other games on steam where I got a 15-20-30% discount because I owned a previous game in the series)

Most people that want Dark Souls already played on of the previous games. So giving Dark Souls to people that are already fan of the series is redundant.

It's a PR move. It's a purchase incentive that costs them next to nothing, since Dark Souls 1 is long done making money. It also gets people talking about the game, which will drive sales on every platform.

There is that little hiccup of PS4 not having BC. Don't think they really have an excuse on PC tho.

Man this is great! For me games are games. And getting games for free is even better. And if somehow I already own the games they're offering free, I'm free to sell the digital copies for these games or trade them in gaming deal forums. There's nothing negative at all with these BC games especially when it's offered free as an incentive. Also I love playing all these games on One console. This is awesome!

Not only that, Bloodborn was a huge step back from the Soul series. Don't get me wrong, Bloodborn was fun but at the same time, it's just not on my top 5 games of 2015 but it was damn fun though.

It's on many people's top 5 though, including mine for 2015. That game opened a lot of new gamers eyes to the Souls series and people that didn't play the older one's before will try them out now because of Bloodborne.

Its most likely contractual with XBL Gold that they can give those games out. But instead of giving them out to xbone owner with XBL Gold they give them out when people buy the newest games. Quite sly.

Bloodborne was easily my top5 game but if there's one thing I'm happy with Dark Souls 3 on the way, no more load times and crap fps.

Heck when people realised you can install ssd on your ps4 literally half the Bloodborne speedrunners vanished, you can guess why

In the end of the day good for gamers and the ones that are willing to buy X1. Other than that ... who cares for a free game that everyone played already ?

Microsoft should try to get them to give away a free PC version of the game with the purchase of the Xbone version.

After being bothered by Bloodborne performance in PS4 so much I don't see myself getting DS3 on anything but PC. A game that requires precision made by a developer that doesn't care about performance is strange. The games are already tough, I don't want to have to fight the hardware too.

I'm really glad publishers are doing this for XB1. I remember back when PS3 games were doing it and thought the value was great (Dead Space 2 and Bioshock 2 come to mind) Hopefully all this talk finally gets Sony to figure out BC on the PS4. It's time.

PS4 has no BC. PC players get a discount depending on how many Dark Souls games they own on Steam... I got $6 off for owning Prepare to Die and Scholars.

It's absolutely a combined effort by Microsoft to encourage their backwards compatibility program on Xbox One. Not FROM's fault. I have no problem with this.

They gave us Bloodborne. What did you get?

RPGs sell better on PS4. Deal with it. You actually think a Japanese game like Darks Souls III that has a strong brand association with PlayStation( 2 recent From exclusives) is going to sell more on Xbox One in the US. If so you are delusion. Even Western RPGs like The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition sold better on PS4 in the US.
