MS has played their hand.  They are going after both the casual and gamer market at the same time.  Its very ambitious and could be huge if they can pull it off, but they are at a conundrum.  Casual gamers/techies/people who want to voice command their tv, aren't going to pay $500 for a voice controlled remote for their TV.  At the same time hardcore gamers are turned off by the device.  If it costs as much as the PS4 they will just choose the PS4 instead since it is the better gaming device by a good amount and  has the most gaming potential as far as graphics go.  So for them to grab casuals and core gamers it has to be priced well.  I'm thinking absolutely not more than $400.  Probably closer to $300.  Anything more and I can see it struggle out the gates. If they really wanted to sell they would launch at $299.  The XBL is so lucrative that MS can afford to take a hit on the hardware.   The important thing is getting people on the XBL ecosystem where they will eventually spend their money.  If MS announces at E3 a launch price that is equal to the PS4 the One will be doomed.

They could easily sell it at $300 but they won't. They will test their luck at the same price as the PS4 and get their ass kicked.

i'm pretty sure M$'s plan is to use a subscription based model to sell these, I'm pretty sure their thought process was to use DRM and constrict users while forcing kinect down people's throats, and instead of selling it at a loss to get people to buy it, sell it for $200 with 2 years of live at 15/month or something. The low entry price is the only thing that will be good for M$.

a large portion of the price of ps3 was bluray, and a large portion of the power was in teh CPU and wasn't easy to develop for. this time around they use jaguar CPU and amd APU. They are the same architecture and if the rumors are true ps4 will have an extreme advantage in the visuals department.

I'll call it that the US sales numbers for next gen will very closely mirror the end of this gen with Microsoft having a healthy lead from month to month.

And i will call that PS4 will easily out sell ONE in every other region. The US market will be closer than you think maybe half and half , perhaps even PS4 slightly ahead. It would be sad for M soft lose in sales in America, with a console designed exclusively for Americans though.

But when multiplats are ported, dont they all look the same (to save money)?

Entirely possible, but me thinks europe will be closer.

I do not see the PS4 outselling One in the US and since WiiU is selling like plague infested rats Sony will easily grab second.

no, all the assets are scaled up already, they scale them down to balance it for the particular system, or give settings for users on PC. There will literally be no difference in architecture between the two systems, they'll take equal effort to produce games, one is just faster this time.

PS3 had more powerful CPU, Weaker GPU and less RAM it evened out. PS4 is outright more powerful than the X by a substantial amount.

That's not really a low entry price... $572.

xbox will win next gen for sure because it's designed for casuals unless those 8 new ips are actually good.

Its not $572. Its $200 down and a monthly subscription fee of $15.
There is a difference.

Which totals to $572 after tax on the console. I'm not sure if you get taxed each month for live too. Isn't a normal subscription to Live only $60 a year?

If it didn't ship with Kinect it would have been cheaper, but both boxes will retail for exactly the same price. Sony, might have a slightly cheaper $350 model with a smaller harddrive.

The source that pegged the reveal at 5/21 also claimed it will release for $499 or $299 with a two year, $9.95/month (iirc) Live contract.

Won't probably know til Fall, but I could see this.

If there is a contract/subscription based model than microsoft could make their box relatively cheap (and then over the years of your subscription make a profit on each console sold). Think of it like a cellphone. You'll also be potentially paying a cable bill. I think it's relatively safe to say the microsoft will try to make it as cheap as possible in order to attract customers who didn't research the product and then use contracts/subscriptions to recoup and make profit.
