Kinext 2.0 looks like the real deal

This is driving me nuts.  Why does Xbox One need Kinect to work?  I can't find anything concrete at this point.  The official statements from Microsoft make it sound like they want to insure that everyone at least has it plugged in to encourage developers to design games with it in mind.  

"We still absolutely believe in Kinect. It's a core part of the architecture. Frankly, it's really critical that you build it as something that's always there, always part of the platform. So that game creators, experience creators can know they can rely on it. And you, the user, that there's always a consistent experience. That it's not just an accessory."

I also found a random comment saying something about offloading the CPU or something to that effect but I can't find it at this time nor could I find a source.  Does anyone have a rational reason why the Kinect needs to be plugged in for the console to function?  I mean if the webcam on my laptop doesn't work the computer doesn't shut down so what gives?  Sure it has a lot of cool features that I'll probably use but theres no practical place for me to place it in my room so why do I need it to use the system?

Calculating heart rate that way is not new. I can do that with my Phone's camera and the right app.

Seriously though, this looks like good tech, but for games, it's almost useless except for exercising games. The Kinect is really in the wrong market. At the beginning, when she moved around, the lag is still very much present. I almost laughed when the guy shined the flashlight on the girl and it didn't show up in the IR field and he said "this is amazing technology". Dude, it's an IR camera, of course it's not gonna see the flashlight. :lol:

Wow, they really have made major improvements on the Kinect.  I have the Kinect for the 360 and while it's cool and all I never use it.  My GF and nieces are the only people that use it.  So I can definitely see the value for Kinect (fun for the family/party settings), however, for hardcore gamers we just don't really care for it...
