I download all my games to my solid state
The load times keep me in a solid state

wtf is wrong with u people? how many games are u lot juggling at once? play a game and delete it, u surely cant be playing 10+ games at once
Why would we want to delete games... When we want to play a game again next time we would have to delete something else as well as install that game again!! Think before you write.
the horror!!
500GB is woefully insufficient and neither console has a perfect solution to it. One that isn't stupidly demanding of the customer, like what you suggest.

Deleting sht is stupidly demanding? Fk sake, kids can't even push a few buttons anymore.
I wonder how kids these days would have survived back in the 90s when you had to blow on cartridges a dozen times to get your favorite game to work or make sure you didn't pull on the cord so you didn't freeze the console and delete all the saves. Or you had to polish a cd disc because of the scratches or carefully clean the system lens because it got dirty, or put the system upside down every time you wanted to play the game because that's the only way it read discs.
Still stuns me that MS didn't include a user replaceable HDD on the Xbone. Maybe they figured lemmings weren't bright enough for such a complex procedure.
@sailor232:
I guess he just ran out of topics to start. I have a 1.5 TB harddrive on my X1 so I'm not worried about any game being too big. I have way more than enough space for all the games I want for the rest of the year and when I'm done with a game, I just delete it.

No it's just a rushed console I don't think the final product they put out is what they wanted to put out. The fact that if you remove the HDD and put in a new formatted one in makes the console a brick (no way of reinstalling firmware) is a joke. If your drive ever breaks out of warranty you are in for a good time, not even a repair shop can help you.
Uh yeah both the XOne and PS4 will need upgraded HDDs so not sure what youre trying to get at.
At least I can mix HDDs on the Xbox, whereas the only option is to switch on PS4.
Yeah but what's to stop MS from pulling the same shit last gen? 100 gb caps and only specified hardware because of "cheating" and not because they wanna make a butt ton of money or proprietary hardware.
That's so tin foil hat. If we're pulling nonsense out of our ass, what's to stop Sony from doing the same thing? They could remove the functionality just like they did with Linux on the PS3.
How is it tin foil when it actually happened?
Its right here.
Microsoft did it last gen and Sony didn't those are the facts.
*walks up to his xbox 360, plugs in his 5 dollar sandisk extreme speed 32 gig usb stick* hmmmm....odd it worked.....why wasn't I forced to use proprietary usb sticks? oh wait hey I got a second one *plugs in the second 5 dollar sandisk extreme speed 32 gig usb stick* oh my god it works as well I can have up to 64 gigs on the system now.....
wait a minute.... *calls up his friend joe* hey joe you still got that 3Tb 3.0 drive? plug it into your xbox one. *waits* oh it works? and you are installing a game to it now?
shit....Why would you leave information like this out animal mother? After reading the replies after this It seems like your just being pissy at rr360dd and you really proved nothing against rr360dd except that your an ass that is incapable of actually arguing the truth, your twisting all this shit around when your logic can be applied to the ps4 since the ps2 had shit tons of proprietary hardware and often blocked 3rd party stuff.....yet they didn't do so with the ps3 because they learned their lesson.
also of note If you are willing to break your warranty you can install a newer internal harddrive in the xbox one.
With Destiny requiring a 40GB install on Xbox One it's a good thing MS made external HDD possible.

How large is the install file on the PS4 version? I'm getting the PS4 version of the game. I'm also getting ready to order a 4TB HDD for my XB1. I already have a 1.5 TB Internal HDD for my PS4.

That's the main problem with the PS4 HDD. Since it doesn't support external HDD yet, you need to upgrade your HDD as soon as you get your PS4. If you fill it to 500GB, you'll have to copy everything to larger HDD and then install that HDD into your PS4. With the XB1, you don't have to uninstall the HDD at all. Just attach a external HDD and you're good to go. I'm getting a 4TB HDD for my XB1 and that is all I'll ever need.

Probably cause there wasn't a need for it when you can attach 2 external HDD to unit without having to open the system. I can attach two 4TB HDD to my XB1 and I'm set for life of the console. Sony forces users to perform surgery on the PS4 just to upgrade their storage. You have to backup and reload the update files. Waste of time.

Exactly, HDD management isn't hard. Did it last gen, I never needed more than 5 to 10 games installed. Even on my PC, I have a huge HDD just for games, I still don't want to download all my games, what's the point in having a load of games installed that I'm not even playing.
Luckily the PS4 allows for new HDDs already installed a 1.5 TB on it.
Got like 20 games downloaded and a TB left :D
I like the X1 way as well, no need to waste the internal HDD, just add another on.

USB ports.. For when you really want to go pro.
Considering the PS4 uses a 5400RPM Sata 2 HDD as standard, exactly how "pro" do you think it is in the first place?
USB 3 is sufficient and is closer to Sata 3 in speed.

You can patch in external HDD support.
You can't patch in better hardware.
Classic blackace.

they didnt include a user replaceable HDD because they purposefully designed it to use external usb 3.0 drives. I have a 4TB external on mine and its a 7200rpm drive so its actually faster than the internal one. The speed is noticeably different.
The benefit of the external is I can actually take my drive to a friends' house plug it into their X1 and play all my games on their system. I've done it and it works.
Cant do that on an internal HDD

Yes, but when? Gamers are already starting to run out of space on their PS4's. I can boost my XB1 storage to 8TB right now. You don't need to patch in new hardware when the hardware architecture in the system is designed to evolve over a 10 year period. Classic GrenadeLicker.
What oflow said "The benefit of the external is I can actually take my drive to a friends' house plug it into their X1 and play all my games on their system. I've done it and it works."
Let us know when you can do this on the PS4.
I doubt my xbone will ever need one... I still have most of the space free on mine... I only have Forza 5, and FIFA installed on it. If I were to upgrade the drive in any of the PS4 or X1 I would get something like a 4TB drive. I would prefer a combo of an SSD and HDD, but thats just not possible with the consoles. SSHD would be the next best thing I guess.

No, it's actually more convenient and less wasteful. Nintendo and MS did the right thing by providing gamers the optional convenience of plugging in External HDD.
With the PS4, once you buy it, you're obviously (very likely) going to upgrade the HDD to a larger capacity HDD, say 2 TB. You perform surgery on the PS4, removing that unused 500GB HDD that came with the recently purchase PS4 and install the new internal 2TB into the PS4. At the end, PS4 gamers, have WASTED THAT EXTRA 500GB HDD space, once everything is backed up.
X1 owners get to keep their internal HDD and in addition, keep/have the ability to upgrade their External HDD whenever they wish. More HDD space and less wastefulness.

Sell the 500b HDD,problem solved.

You missed my point. I'm talking UTILIZING every HDD space available. Selling it or not, that 500gb HDD is not being utilized and instead, wasted. And that same HDD has the PS4 OS built into, so I can't see how can that be useful to some poor sap who bought one, maybe reformat it, i guess.
X1 owners get to used the internal HDD built into the X1, in addition, having more HDD space available to them (let's say 2TB more) with an external HDD, having a total of 2.5TB of space to utilize.
40GB isn't that much. Already been plenty of games that've required more space for installation. Hardly a big deal because I delete games I no longer have or won't be playing again for awhile. Takes like 20 seconds to install something if I have to, so it's hardly an inconvenience.

Probably sooner than the Xbone getting a game, crackace.
I can also boost my hard drive space by changing the hard drive. That's the benefit of having a games console designed as a games console, not a media box.

It's not difficult to change an internal HDD in a console. Then again lemmings can barely dress themselves in the morning.

The fact the internal HDD is slower just goes what show what a piece of shit the Xbone is.

Yet the internal PS4 HDD Sony provide you with is also a Sata 2 5400 RPM HDD, and Toms Hardware tests show only minimal gains by putting in a faster HDD. Does that go to show what a piece of shit the PS4 is?

No need to do damage control for the Shitbox, herm.
Xbone owners have so little stuff to bragg about, so they have to bragg about the ability to use external HDD's, and the size of them. Just delete the games that you are not playing.
