What impression are you getting from all of this that makes you believe whatever replaces Scorpio at the top will not be an "Xbone machine"?

With AMD ZEN, X86 market will be very competitive at server (e.g. 32 core AMD ZEN vs 24 core Intel Xeon with IBM Power8 being caught in another AMD/Intel competitive crossfire) and SOHO markets. In the HPC server markets, X86 CPU dominates.

Anyway.... AMD ZEN+ and NAVI GPU would be after Scorpio and it's another "Xbox One" type hardware with better specs and has legacy software support. This is why both Sony and MS has stated console generation shift may have ended.

The alternative to AMD are Intel and NVIDIA.

The Scorpio will be the most powerful console ever, that alone is an event in gaming that should not be missed by gamers. By the way MS are merging PC and their consoles, it will be exciting times when the Scorpio ushers in something new. I'm pretty sure there are others who are more than gamers here and also get excited with new tech. Scorpio, NeO and NX are new tech and people like me are excited for them. Can't wait until how all of these plays out. Nothing wrong with staying with your old systems but people like me will be getting these new systems.

Microsoft is going where the market is going. Hence games on Xbox and Windows 10, both OSes that Microsoft controls. Sony simply doesn't have that luxury as they don't have a computer operating system. Hence they are focusing on their console business, while Microsoft can focus on multiple platforms due to their size and dominance in each form factor.

Depends on where the games go.

I would sooner upgrade my PC than buy an upgraded Xbone or PS4.

Intel Skylake Iris Pro IGP will run the majority of PC MMOs and Windows Store casual games.

Majority of PC unit sales are laptops.

Not necessarily done with the brand, but I'm not buying a scorpio. My Xbox One will still be able to play games, and I primarily game on PC anyway. I'd say my larger issue for me buying future machines is that their first party stuff is also showing up on PC, but I'm cool with that. In an ideal for me world I get all 3 first parties making stuff on the PC so I never have to buy their machine.

I would like Microsoft's first party to get a bit better, their games lineup outside of Halo 5 and I guess Forza, has been unsatisfying to me. Gears 4 should be good though, at least in multiplayer, not sure how the campaign will turn out.
