Poll Xbox One Vs WiiU, which failed harder? (100 votes)

Xbox One 25%
WiiU 75%

So, we have to big failures.

Wii U had some good exclusives, like Zelda and Mario, but abysmally low sales, xone on the other hand have no exclusives and live on third party support, giving no real reason to anyone buy a xone, since you can play everything that is on it on PC.

So, which one is the bigger failure?

WiiU at least had a few good titles that could only be played on it... so yeah, Gorebox is the biggest failure this generation.

The Wii U was a bigger failure. While I kind of liked the system myself and have about 20 games for it which I think are excellent games I think that there is no doubt that the Wii U failed and failed hard coming off of the massive success that the Wii enjoyed.

Only in forum land would anyone consider the WiiU more a success than the X1. Nobody asked which was enjoyed more, the question was which was more a failure. The WiiU sold like salted shitballs at a hockey game. It failed.

Xbone continues to get AAA games like Far Cry 5. WiiU died years ago, after a brief life span of X360 ports.

There's no question which failed harder.

Wii U no doubt. Wii U fell of the grid, even Nintendo admitted it's a disappointing console only because they got so cocky on the Wii success mojo and they paid the price with the name "Wii U" and Nintendo thought they were gonna capture lighting in a bottle again, lack of games took a year in a half to get it going after it launch, but at least Nintendo put a lot of efforts then Sony's Vita. Wii U takes the cake in this comparison.

Xbox One is hardly better and nowhere near as bad as Wii U.

To me it boils down to living up to expectations. The Xbone pretty much lived up to expectations that its fans and detractors had. The Wii U did not meet the majority of expectations gamers had for it.

By the way, Wii U probably lost less money for nintendo, as they sold the console for a profit... while X1 is sold at a loss.

The Wii U definitely failed harder, but at least now it has been reincarnated as the Switch.

Everyone going based off sales numbers only? Kinda obvious then. But would that make N64 and GameCube also failures? The wiiU succeeded at a good secondary console, because of all the high quality exclusives it had. It failed(if you want to call it that) at being a primary console for sure. Xbox One was aimed at being a primary console(For people without a decent PC also). WiiU, as well as Switch, are not aimed at being primary consoles, but secondary. In this way, I consider both a success (even if you ignore the amazing numbers Switch has in sales). PS4 excelled at being a primary console because it was fairly cheap at launch, it had great 3rd party support, and great exclusives(slow at the beginning but we all knew what was coming). So I wouldn't say WiiU was a failure, for what it was intended to do. I wouldn't call Xbox One after the S and X came out as failures either. They offer HDR and a 4k Blu-ray player, if that's what you want. The original Xbox One was huge, ugly, slightly weaker than the S, didn't have HDR, or a 4k player. The exclusives haven't been great either to justify it as my main system, and thus really no reason to own it as my second system either. My answer: the OG Xbox One was a bigger failure than the WiiU, but not the S or X.

One knows the Wii U was bad when it isn't mentioned (at least finding it with ease) on the Nintendo website.

Wii U was clearly the bigger flop. However, it was the better console, due to better exclusives, whereas the X1 barely offered anything the PC and PS4 didn't do better.

Wii U

but I don't buy into the poor marketing excuse, I think Nintendo banked too much on this idea if they made a more third party friendly system that they'd come... and they didn't, because people really only buy Nintendo system for Nintendo games, and they didn't even have that

I mean, some say Xbox only has Forza Gears and Halo but at least Microsoft is delivering those, it wasn't a mystery how to make the Wii U successful, just give people a few Mario games, some Zelda and/or Metroid, launch with something more compelling that Zombi U, done

but even then, Nintendo was bound to need to go the direction of the Switch, even during Wii/DS days they had a bad time giving equal treatment to each platform, just showed more during Wii U / 3DS days, they can't do well one one without ignoring the other, now they'll just have one system to focus on which is good, they won't have a fractured base... well, considering they ever retire the 3DS

they can keep selling it, I think they should just make all the games cheap digitally, add DS titles to it, it'd still make money for them years down the line with no need to make new content

I think the Xbox One failed harder because it had much more powerful hardware and therefore should have performed better, if i am to believe that hardware specs matter after all.

At least Wii U had some gems. Xbone only has flops.
Can't play sales, which is the only metric to success that counts on System Wars.

Not sure. Unlike the Xbox One the Wii U delivered some good games... but in terms of sales it flopped way harder.

The list of great games on Xbox One far exceeds the list of great games on WiiU.

Let me guess, 3rd party games don't count because you can play those better on PC and PS4?

The Xbox is more useless due to essentially having no exclusive games - and at launch it was a far worse value proposition then PS4. But at least MS is going to keep supporting it and keep making it a viable main console. Nintendo basically didn't even try with the Wii-U. They let it languish without a redesign or price cut or any serious marketing effort. They just finished up whatever games they had planned for it and moved on. The only thing that could have been worse for Wii-U would have been if Nintendo just cancelled all the games.

The Wii-U was a far more massive failure overall. Everything about the Wii-U was a disaster, from it's design to it's marketing to it's lack of games. The Xbox One, as useless as it is, will probably still sell at least 5 or 6 *times* the lifetime sales of Wii-U.

Right but this is an argument of WiiU vs Xbone. Bringing in other platforms = shifting goalposts.

What you want to believe doesn't alter the past and Nintendo failed in marketing the Wii U properly. The company assumed the incredible success of the Wii would automatically resonate into Wii U sales. Off the top of my head I can not recall any commercials for the console like we saw with the Wii and see with the Switch. One Xmas, 2013, a "Nintendo holiday gift guide" was released as some sort of marketing. After that, I recall nothing. Heads should have rolled.
