Xbox onwers, does Japan still not matter? Looks at 2016...

It just feels like japan is taking those comments I heard so often earlier this gen and shoving it in the face of posters who were all about that silly idea as if they were on to something real.

All you hear from certain users is hateful derogatory rhetoric every time something from japan is mentioned--Labeling everything from Japan "weaboo trash" but here we are in 2015 and we have 4 GS AAAA games so far....2 of them are JAPANESE!

The only AAA industry certified exclusive games released on consoles so far this gen are:

• Super Mario 3D World (93 mc)
• Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (92 mc)
• Bloodborne (92 mc)
• Bayonetta 2 (91 mc)

That's it, and guess what they all have in common? Yep, ALL of them are from Japan!

Maybe Japan got the message somewhere that xbox owners don't appreciate what Japan has to offer in games and thus are electing to omit their biggest franchises from even being on the xbox system. To me one of the biggest games to come out on xbone next year or this gen (scalebound) is japanse which is ironic knowing the tone I"ve heard in the past about japanese games.

Like it or not there are tons of games coming out from Japan in 2016 that and a lot are not coming to xbone. Look and decided if you hate them all, will enjoy what is offered or realize that you are going to miss out...

Looking at the list, do you still think Japan doesn't matter? Or was it silly to even suggest such nonsnese as "Japan doesn't matter" knowing that it has been a driving force in videogames ever since the NES/Genesis era of gaming?

Some of the most high quality games this gen are Japanese and it doesn't look like that is going to change any time soon.

I know I never said that. I like games that I like. I don't get into the traditional JRPGs, have seen threads here arguing whether Souls games are actually JRPGs. Some say that term is a sub genre of RPG and some say if it is made by Japanese devs then its a JRPG.

You can't deny Japanese developers are become less relevant each year though, they are not as big as they once where in terms of chucking out games.

Everyone acts like JRPG's are the most important genre for gaming. Problem is they are not system sellers unless you're the Final Fantasy franchise or the Soul Series.

@FireEmblem_Man: Them arent system sellers either. GTA, Madden, NBA2K, FIFA, CoD, these are system sellers. People will buy a whole system and just one of these games a year and be happy.

When you think about just the vast amount coupled with the quality that is coming from this one small country it really is amazing. There are a lot of people who are really salty and hate with all their being when anything Japanese gets praised but hell look at the stats.

There is no denying japan is a powerhouse in the gaming world as far as quality goes no matter how much some hate that fact. Looking at 2016 Japan looks to be coming back stronger than ever and I am loving the butthurt by some that can't stand it.

Xbox fans say they don't like Japanese games and they don't matter but both Metacritic and Gamespot agree that Bloodborne >>>> Halo 5. It looks like most unbiased critical reviewers don't agree with what many of these people say about japanese games.

Too many gamez...I just focused on consoles but yeah 3DS rules but it was one reason people were saying Japan didn't matter and on the decline because they were focusing on handhelds but that looks to be changing now.

I really wanted to see Japanese games on a bigger scale last gen only to have most of them restricted to handhelds where this gen is a more even playing field.

It's not Japanese games that are the problem, it's the crappy little anime JRPG shovelware being forced on the market with nothing to counter it.

The PlayStation 4 is ridiculously saturated with this junk, it's becoming like the indie game shitshow that Steam turned into.

Wii U is all about quality? Is that your feeble excuse on why Wii U's aren't selling because they have a small library of quality games that no one wants to play? Compared to the Xbox One and PS4 that has all the games you listed that everyone wants to play? How dense are you?

Its all good, i think only 1 or 2 would qualify.

Xbox owners do not hate all Japanese games. I think that there is only one type of Japanese game that for the most part, a lot of Xbox owners don't care for, and that is the JRPG genre. Fans of JRPGs tend to gravitate towards Playstation consoles, so there is not a big fanbase for that genre on Xbox.

The region where you're losing heavily always "doesn't matter." Same last gen, same this gen.

What's the problem. In the West they are less relevant than they were. They used to rule the Western markets, now Western gamers move towards Western games for the most part. That list you just made wouldn't exactly dwarf a Western list would it? Also note that a lot of the Japanese games now, are designed with a Western direction to appeal to the West. Even the PS3 and PS4 are more Western centric than the PS1 and PS2. So they're hardly dominating are they.

Some of that list is strange, what is it with GT, PS2 nostalgia? Because that's how far back you have to go with that one. Tekken has been hit and miss for a while. Zelda is hit and miss with all that milking. Bayonetta sold like shit in the West, which is why it's exclusive to Nintendo now. Some of these games you list just because they're Japanese. Why Star Fox? Hasn't had the best track record either.

Also cows spend probably more time bashing Mario than anyone else.

But none of this means I don't like Japanese games though. If you're into JRPGs, Japan is a really big deal. I like Japanese games too, but they certainly aren't as big of a deal to me as they once were.

@kinectthedots: Yes, Street Fighter is a game so shallow that it appeals to sexually frustrated teenagers, just like all the other JRPGs listed there. Just add an affection scale, and it will be a full on JRPG garbage. You asked which fit the criteria, and you got your answer.

In the grand scheme of things, Japanese games are pretty niche. Sure they appeal to people like us, proper gamers who can appreciate them but to the average joe most don't care. Most are happy with the CODs, Halos, ACs etc. You know, the super massive budget AAA titles that get all the TV time.
