My God, the word Weeaboo has lost its meaning and it's an insult at that then it is Otaku.

Anime fandom has been around for a long time now and these words have come up in popular culture. "Weeaboo" and "Otaku". Many people mix them up or think they mean the same thing.

Otaku basically means by it's American definition (The Japanese one is drastically different and is an insult there) that someone is obsessed with manga, anime, and Japanese video games. They will often collect many versions of Japanese video games, manga, and anime. Many people like myself proudly put this label on themselves.

However the other word "weeaboo" hasn't been around as long and isn't used as much as "otaku" is.

A weeaboo basically is just an otaku that has taken their passion into something more drastic. Basically they start replacing English words such as "Cat" and "Cute" with "Neko" and "Kawaii". They will use these words almost all the time online and offline and abuse them. Also they curse how they aren't Japanese and don't dare to touch stuff such as American video games or watch any American media. "Weeaboo" is an insult because of this.

Now with all that said, let's be clear, I'm first and foremost a gamer, I also consider myself a Otaku to some degree, I hardly play JRPG games and I hope this clear thing up.

Shallow? You must have never touched a fighting game before. Mastering your character of choice and all the matchups requires a pretty long time.

Japan developers need to move to Europe and US and make more games for these bigger markets. They would rather stay in Japan and make more mobile and tablet games. All 4 of the games you listed are great. I'm going to try to get a wii U this holiday for my daughter (and myself of course..hehehe). I have nothing against Japan games. I love JRPG's and recently just got Toukiden Kiwami (PS4) and I'm looking forward to Scalebound (XB1).

Really what's indie on that list? Shenmue?

Are you seriously trying to argue that Xbox gamers are more open non-mainstream games than PlayStation gamers? Xbox gamers won't even buy Tomb Raider, probably because it stars a woman.

Again do I have to mention they made Kamiya change the protagonist from a female to male as stipulation to publish Scalebound? Square Enix did the sake thing for Nier because of Xbox and trying to appeal to Western tastes.

Xbox is by far the most generic platform for gaming and their fans embrace it.

It's definitely something I want to play, I didn't play the last entry so maybe that helps.

The last Star Ocean game was abysmal. Truly the worst JRPG I have ever played.

I remember when it launched and I saw a video on 360, the cast looked absolutely awful and sounded even worse.

That was my cue to stay away, at least with this new one I'm getting a better feeling from the art direction and character design.

When people say "Weeaboo" in the West, what they really mean is "Otaku". In Japan, "Otaku" is just as much of an insult as "Weaboo" is in the West. But because the word "Otaku" isn't insulting in the West, people came up with words like "Wapanese" or "Weaboo" instead to insult what the Japanese call Otaku.

Anime/Manga fandom has been around for a very long time, but the perception of the fandom has changed drastically over the years. Back in the '90s (when the word "Weaboo" never existed), THIS is what people thought of when they heard the word "anime" or "manga"... the complete polar opposite of what kids today think of when they hear the word "anime" or "manga".

It just shows their utter ignorance and stupidity. Liking a Japanese made game makes you somehow approve of all aspects of Japanese culture far more than a western idealization which doesn't make much sense. To be quite honest it's downright xenophobic.

My post has nothing to do with any of the games on the PS4 being indie, that's not the issue although it's likely to become one.

Steam has become completely saturated with indie games so much to the point that it's become hard and annoying to actually find normal video games. There is becoming a parallel with that situation on Steam for the PlayStation 4 in terms of JRPG's saturating the PlayStation 4's library. When you look on Steam all that appears to be releasing are indie games, when you look at the PlayStation 4 it's JRPG's, it's getting kind of ridiculous.

@DressYouUp: I only mentioned retail games for PS4. If I added smaller games like WILD and No Man's Sky it would look even worse for Xbox. Even Square Enix has realized Xbox owners only buy certain games and PS4 gets a free exclusive in Nier. Sony is paying for and owns the Detroit game. You think Xbox will ever fund an idea like that? Hell no.

In case you didn't notice I only listed games that fall outside of the focused test AAA pile. I did not list Uncharted 4 or Gran Turismo Sport because those are more mainstream games that do appeal to the general consumer crowd.

Sorry, but Xbox is generic compared to PlayStation whether you like it or not.

@Snugenz: Yes. And I know lot of people can't stand these types of games (unless it's Telltale), but I'm thankful Sony funds them for those of us that do.

I doubt Cage could get Microsoft, EA, Activision, Ubisoft etc to pony up for an idea like that.
