Playstation by far. Their consoles have offered some of the best games in this industry, a lot of things wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the them.
The Xbox, on the other hand, hasn't really done much. While the 360 is a large improvement over its predecessor, it relies its success on "stealing" exclusives from the Playstation.

So you are saying games like Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, GRAW, GTA4, DMC4, Ace Combat, Final Fantasy XIII, and Soul Calibur 4 would have come out anyways this generation, without the 360 existing?Playstation by far. Well, considering that most of these games are multiplatform, I don't see why not ?

I was just making sure, I got the jist of what you were saying.
Playstation. Even though I like my 360, I don't really have a connection with the xbox brand, it's a good gaming console but nothing more than that.
Also, I'm thinking that Sony must be feeling pretty bummed about this gen, going from dominating in sales to last place. But I also think it will drive them to shape up for the next gen and deliver a really awesome console! That's another reason why the Playstation brand must stick around.
Microsoft at the moment. Last gen, easily Sony, but they seem to be getting lazy with the PS3 and PSP, and trying to do too many things "It's not just a games console!" "But...I want a games console..." "No you don't you want to watch movies and other stuff too!" They need to just go back to the PS1 vision, making a games console. And whilst Sonys first parties dieing would be a loss, the people would work for other companies so the talent would still be around.bobbetybob
Well I want movies and other stuff too...
PS, microsoft has brought nothing new besides online.mistervengeance
One can make a case that online is a big deal for this generation. Just like how Sony bought casuals into console gaming during the PS2 years, MS has done the same with online gamers with their Xbox360. Though it's not a huge wave like the casuals, it is a new demographic that's helping MS to keep ahead of its competition.
i would say MS cos if they die so does windows and without windows we would not be able to post on gamespot,delta3074
We are not talking about windows we are talking about xbox, and even if we did lose windows there is linux and mac osx that you can still use gamespot on. im writing this post in osx.
But to the TC i think and have always said the day Sony goes is the day i quit playing because they have brought so much to the industry, and it would be a huge i mean catastrophic loss if they left the gaming world. If it wasnt for Sony M$ wouldnt be doing so good this gen.
Yes I realize that Microsoft set the standard for online gaming and without it we might not even have PSN due to lack of competition, but really just ask yourself this. What good does online do for you if there aren't those amazing titles to play it online? I respect your opinion but I would rather have the great games, and for me I really don't have time for online because of college study. Just to be clear that we are on the same page, I am not saying that Xbox doesn't have great first party games, just that Playstation has more of them.;)But you would be voting for a slower ONLINE revolution, you realize that, right?
So, effectively you are choosing Games over Online, correct?(I know PS3 is online, but features aren't caught up quite yet to LIVE, and if LIVE isn't there to set the bar, Sony would slow down.)
Not saying that your choice was bad, just asking if you realized you were Choosing Games Over Online.

I actually think the death of the Xbox brand would be worse. Sure, the PS brand may have made a much bigger contribution to gamin in the past. But Xbox really innovates with Xbox Live, whereas Playstation brand doesn't seem to do much more than add horsepower and copy MS' online.
However, this is assuming that the death of the brand means that Sony's first party just become third party, because they have far better devs than MS.

i dont want to start a war but the only thing xbox has is live. no offense but if they didnt pay for exclusives what would they have? Sony makes some of the best 1st party games this gen along with nintendo. M$ doesnt have any 1st party developers.

Agreed, that's why I said that as long as Sony continues as a 3rd party developer, that way we wouldn't lose their games.
Out of the big three, I trust Sony the least to move the industry forward. I think without Microsoft, they would be too complacent.
I not really fond of Sony first party games. I always preferred their 3rd party exclusive games. Thats not to say I am fond of every MS first party games becaus ethey don't have alot.
For me as a gamer the lost of the xbox brand would do more harm. Why? Because the xbox brand intoduced pc gaming on consoles fr me. I know other consoles have done it, but not to teh exent what was done on teh xbox. why you think there are a lot more PC/360 games then there are PC/PS3 games.
The xbox brand intoduced me to Bioware and Lionhead. The xbox brand has Rare. The xbox brand introduced me to Halo and bungie. The xbox brand made online gaming for consoles more popular. They set a standard for online that still to this day isn't matched feature for feature on consoles and somewhat PCs. Ican live without the xbox brand the same way I can live without the sega brand, but I know I will alwys wonder what it will be like if they were still here.
no dont loss microsoft without microsoft we wouldnt have computers.dainsanereview
no we would just not have windows (os and software) xbox, and zune
PS would be a bigger loss. The amount of good games we would lose. Most the playstation games we see are made by first party studios.
While if Xbox went down epic and bungie would just moved to PS.
Sony is a bigger loss to the gaming world since the ps2 sold over 100 million consoles and has sold around 10 million ps3s.
MS may not release another console but I believe they will continue to put out pc games. I remember a few years back before there was an xbox there was this game called Age of Empires 2 and still remains one of the best RTS games to date.

What exclusives did they pay for? You think Sonys first party devs dont get paid?
Although both of them would be very bad losses, I believe the PlayStation brand's death would be harder to recover from.
~Sony's Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 is what really made gaming more mainstream, and cooler, compared to years before, where everyone was called a nerd if they had done gaming.
~Sony's like for unique games is very beneficial for those who like new and exciting material.
~And no one would have a very sexy console anymore. =/. I drool everytime I see my PS3.
The death of Xbox would only be bad because
~The standards for online gaming would be lowered.
~Lack of a cool name for a console. (Wii? Honestly? or PS3? We should be more creative.) Erm, lets hope they don't call it the Xbox 720 or 540 next gen, I would be mad.

Well, I was just asking, as I agree. :)
What good is ONLINE if you lose those games, correct o mundo.
id have to choose xbox brand
ps brand revolutionized the market....
MS is useless now anyway, cuz bill retired
Syk0_k03r
You say PS Brand Revolutionized the market, and M$ is useless now, but you answered that The XBOX Brand would be a bigger loss. It doesn't make sense.
Sorry if my tone sounded harsh and thanks for asking.:) As a gamer, losing any company in this day and age is a big loss because it reduces the competition, just look at the Madden series when they brought out the exclusive deal for the NFL. All we are left with are sub par product because there is no rival for the company to try hard or let alone attempt.Well, I was just asking, as I agree. :)

That doesn't make any SENSE. The TC was clear, what would be a bigger loss, the PS BRAND or the XBOX BRAND?
You are saying the PS Brand would stick around as a 3rd party. That's not answering the question, that's manipulating it to suit your answer.
Which would be a bigger Loss? It's that simple. Can't you answer it without creating wild scenarios and stipulations so that the PS Brand stays alive as a 3rd party? Why would M$ stay around?
That doesn't make sense either way, as that's not the question. The question is the BRAND. SEGA didn't dissappear, they kept their BRAND. What you are saying is they wouldn't leave, that the BRAND would stick around.
Doesn't even answer the Question, at all.
Well the PS brand has been slowly dying after the PS2. The DS dominates the PSP, the 360 dominates the PS3 in software, and the Wii dominates the PS3 in hardware. But the beauty about the gaming business is that gamers will always have bigger, better, and more badass systems that will replace the old. Its only a big loss if you're a big fanboy of the brand.
I second that.Despite my HUGE dissapointment at Sony last 2 attempts of gaming hardware, (PS3,PSP) it would be a much bigger loss for the PlayStation Brand to die out, it's the brand everyone knows and respects.
Despite the recent defection of many former PS2 owners to the Xbox360.
ukillwegrill
i say MS because not only will there be no more xbox consoles PC games might go aswell.wally2nv
halo, gears, fable what other pc game does ms publish? ms had nothing to do with pc mass effect or bioshock or cod4 or crysis or hl2 or wic or basicly any pc game
As long as the developers are still around, losing either only impacts fanboys. I've always followed games and developers when I buy a console cuz to me thats the only important factor.Senor_Kami
So, you have a hard time answering the question posed, eh?
SEGA is still around, things are different, you know.
You either can answer it or not, but the fact is those BRANDS bring games to the party.
